Child's Play surpasses $1 million goal

While not discounting the impact of tedious school bus excursions, the milestone owes much thanks to the recent Child's Play Charity Dinner Auction in Seattle, which took in an impressive $200,000 over the course of the evening. It warms our hearts when gamers can put down their guns and spread a little cheer for a good cause. Bravo.

This is why I'll always give Penny Arcade a pass for inconsistent comics and mediocre RPG's. Happy Holidays.

36,000 Rupees = 1 Million dollars? Huh?
rTwelve @ Dec 16th 2008 12:57PM
That makes for some expensive deku nuts and arrows.
Andrew @ Dec 16th 2008 1:50PM
yeah, I think someone did the math wrong? It's more like USD$36,000 is like $1.7mn Indian Rupees.
Unless the article was referring to some other kind of dollar...?
EdZ @ Dec 16th 2008 1:55PM
I'm guessing Joystiq forgot the Rupee is the national currency of India. At the current exchange rate (sourced from Xe.com), 1 million US Dollars is about 48 million Rupees.
Tathar @ Dec 16th 2008 5:40PM
Of course! Hyrule == India!
Snob @ Dec 16th 2008 12:27PM
I prefer taking rather than giving. Does this make me a bad person? Wait, never mind.
Phi Nguyen @ Dec 16th 2008 12:43PM
Wow, 999 Rupees doesn't sound so bad now.
BananaBoat @ Dec 16th 2008 12:49PM
Does buying Penny Arcade episode 1 qualify as a charitable donation?
Just asking
Not for tax purposes or anything

I actually enjoy the PA RPGs. Not amazing, but funny and solid.
Dirty @ Dec 16th 2008 1:36PM
I like em too. I enjoy the old school vibe, and for 15 bucks how can you complain.
timepilot84 @ Dec 16th 2008 1:39PM
Solid... like a well-formed turd?
Haggard @ Dec 16th 2008 1:40PM
I fear for your health if your most well-formed turds are solid.
ScottG13 @ Dec 16th 2008 1:40PM
Sure. You've never heard me complain about a nice bowel movement.
