Sony has announced that LittleBigPlanet level packs will soon be proliferating the PlayStation Store -- are these the "very substantial" packs Alex Evans mentioned at the Spike VGAs? Each one is expected to cost you $2.99, which is less than the price of two Street Fightin' SackBoys.
The first one, Festive Level Pack, is coming this Thursday, December 18, and includes two new costumes, one new create material, two new objects, six new decorations and a "ton" of new stickers. It's worth noting that levels are not included -- sorry folks, this is a DIY set. The pack will only remain in-store until January 8, 2009. Looking for free handouts, TinyBigTim? Don't forget you've got a gratis Santa costume available now.

Hey, at least you more substance for your $3.
However, this is pretty lame, I want to see more.
But this is promising, at least we're seeing DLC. I would like to see some actual levels. I really enjoyed the MM levels, really well made, and want to play more.

I'd love to see some more devs levels available to download, complete with more items and clothes to collect in them.
But this? I'll probably give it a miss. Can't imagine ever using those item or stickers in a level, even if the gift wrapped Sackboy is pretty dang cute.

I agree, the packaged levels are 1000x better than 99.99999% of the user made stuff. I would love some more.
Of course, judging by the pricing so far they would cost roughly $8,000 dollars a level....

Yeah, wait wait wait. Isn't this called a "level pack"? I thought these were going to be new levels. I would gladly give my money for more developer created levels, but this?? At least it's cheap.

I thought so to at first, they should have called it "Level 'builders' pack" or something...

Yes, libidius.jp and libius.jp are really cool, but they are more like tech demo's and hardly compare to the hour or so long game levels. Also I didn't put 100% to cover the diamond in the rough you do occasinal find out there in user created content land.

tech demos? the game levels show lbp. nothing more. that of course, is the point. but media molecule said they wanted user created levels that didn't even resemble lbp anymore. hence, my recommendation for libidius and libius. they're so...different from anything you've seen or ever will see. that's why. they may be short and pretty difficult, but the sheer genius is astounding.

Doesn't this infringe on Santa's trademark of Christmas?

Myself and two other friends fund a shared PSN account, and one of them has bought every single piece of LBP content to date. (Also, he's the only one of us who owns the game.) I'd like to punch him in the face, but he lives in California and I in Nevada. What's a polite way of saying, "Stop spending our money on this useless shit, you retarded fuckknuckle?"

I wonder, you know how you can add stickers as prizes in levels, can you have these stickers and decorations as prizes? That would be stupid for Media Molecule to sell it if so, but I doubt it.

The Santa costume is being released in 2 stages, I think the hat/beard should be available next week (not certain).

People are still playing this? Beyond the initial wow factor it dropped into boringness I must say.
And don't worry about being a 'douche' Lxg. The douche is the person who didn't go to school I suppose.

Well aren't you a trendsetter? Will you be having your brave latte java cappuciniato with soymilk as well?
By the way, you might refrain from calling people who make minor spelling mistakes douches until you learn that sentences don't start with conjunctions.

turkeybaster,
Writing for the media is a little different. It's perfectly acceptable to write sentences starting with "but" or "and". You're right in that it's not traditional, but it isn't ALWAYS wrong either.

Bah. I suppose it's not the same teams working on it, but I think the first game patch is a lot more urgent than all this little DLC they're putting out. There are some extremely severe bugs in Create mode, and the online level finding system is just about entirely useless.
Now, MM has been pretty good about seeking feedback on what needs fixing and what should be added, but there's been no indication about when we can expect the real patches to start. Early on it sounded like it would be before Christmas, but I guess not.
Incidentally, why are they calling these "Level packs"? What are they going to call the packs that actually add levels when they start coming?

They should call the current ones "Create" packs, and the ones with levels "Play" packs. It would be more intuitive and would be consistent with the scheme they've already built for the game.

I already made two Christmas Levels, without the help of this pack. Though this will be nice to help finish my third level, it will cut down the time I will spend making the details. By the way, the levels are called "Fall of the North Pole" if anyone wants to try. There are two episodes with a third on the way, probably utilizing this pack.

Oh well, I just played Episode 1 now, even though I've got work to do. :P
Anyways: nice level. I was hesitant at first, but you quickly put my fears to rest. A really cool level. I loved the penguins (especially the massive one ^_^), and the lumber jackers and the lumber machine were really cool.
My only complaint was the bit were you run up the hill dodging the snow balls. It's hard to tell which pane they're on, so I ended up dying and having to restart the level. =( Maybe you could make it a little clearer to differentiate between the two panes (eg. make the backmost pane a slightly darker shade?).
But apart from that one complaint, it's a nice level. I hearted it. =)

What about all that free DLC they were talking about?
I love LBP and think Media Molecule deserves money & praise for making it, but still.
