It's a Christmas miracle! Someone's actually admitting out loud that Guitar Hero: Metallica exists! The band spilled a ton of details to USA Today, including word on the game's difficulty (considerable) and the story, which casts you as a band, inspired by Metallica, following them around the world and playing their songs. It's a strange structure, but the reasoning (the band's early work would have been far too hard, ruling out a chronological approach) seems pretty sound.
We imagine there will be very few of you on the fence, so we have to ask: When Guitar Hero: Metallica arrives early next year, will you be picking it up?

I've probably said this in every GH related article...but I'm going to say to say it again and again until Activision gets it through their heads.
They just released a brand new full band game, and have done their best to put weekly DLC out there to try and keep up with RB.
Then what do they do? In GHWT itself, they put in a trailer for the next GH already...and now, less than like a MONTH since the thing came out they've already annouced that they're taking a bunch of songs that a TON of people will probably want to play and trapping them on a seperate disc.
Because what are the odds that this game not only doesn't support GHWT DLC, but will also be completely unable to cross over to the main GHWT game?
So thanks for supporting Activision's venture into the full band genre. Now go buy this disc full of songs that would've been just as cool as DLC for the game you JUST BOUGHT.
And another thing nobody's considering...this will be yet ANOTHER friggin' GH bundle (or 2 if they do band AND guitar) rotting on shelves alongside GH:A's guitar bundle.
If you can't provide a better product, just force the competition off shelves.

Absolutely not. It's a marriage made in hell with a company who hates their customers and a band who hates their fans.

I agree with T on this issue. The only way I would get such a product would be if a band like Queen or the Beatles were involved. Even so, I think it should all be done through DLC so that we are not all being screwed over. Its insulting that they just skip the DLC because they know they can bend us over if we want to get such music offerings.

Wtf? They are boasting 45 songs at least in this game. At $2 a pop that would be $90, and we all know the standalone game will be $60. Who's getting screwed where? Either buy it or don't. I'm amped.

I'm a Rock Band guy myself. But I would be unable to resist buying a U2 GH game, that would be the end all of music games for me.

I hate this trend of Guitar Hero games. My fiance loves to play music games - only genre she really plays. I bought her the Aerosmith game and we were both extremely dissapointed with it. They need to take a page out of the Rock band model with the AC/DC track pack. Allow me to play it as a stand alone as well as giving me a code to download the songs onto my HDD to play in GH:WT.
After playing RB2 and GH:WT for a considerable time I can honestly say that GH is th einferior product. Everything from the interface, unlockables, cost to purchase unlockables and the pacing of the notes is inferior. They need a complete overhaul of the in game interface to make me buy another game.
I am so much more excited about the stand alone Beatles game made by Harmonix even though I am a huge Metallica fan.
When will one of these companies tap into the urban market and release some sort of a hip hop star game with turntables. They could have a freestyle mode where you battle people and even events like skribble jam.
Unless some drastic changes are made we both decided not to buy another Gh game again. Last thing - I had an extended oppourtunity to try out the GH:WT drums and they are pitiful. Talk about feeling cheap and it reminded me of a childs fisher price drumset. They got the cymbals right but the quality is pathetic.

Do they plan on doing it anytime in our lifetime? They haven't released any since the launch of Rock Band 1 last year.

Harmonic said that a guitar hero deal with metallica didn't affect their licensing deal with metallica, but you have to wonder with enter sandman not being exportable.
But if they still have the rights to the metallica songs, when are they going to release them?

I, for one, won't be giving the Guitar Hero franchise any more of my money. The idea of continued separate releases that you cannot copy to your hard drive to play on a single platform disgusts me. Rock Band 2 has amazing downloadable content and they keep coming with it. They will get my money.

Cool, so now we have Guitar Hero and Rockband flamewars and fanboys!
I'm finally getting *both this Christmas. The whole Premium Rockband 2 set and Guitar Hero WT, but just with game and guitar. Yes, I know I can use the RB guitar on GHWT but I want both guitars. :)
Now I just have to wait and see whos side of the flamewars I'll pick! :P
BTW, I changed my avatar. Can anyone tell me what they see? I just see a black box as my pic, WTF!

I'm not a Rock Band fanboy by any means. I bought every Guitar Hero game and every Rock Band game for the 360. I've enjoyed them both but after seeing how Guitar Hero: WT couldn't access the downloadable content I paid for to use with GH:III that left a bad taste in my mouth. Consider Rock Band releasing the AC/DC pack but still allowing you to copy it to your hard drive to play on the single Rock Band platform. I prefer the direction Rock Band is going and I've chosen to support them for the reasons mentioned.

Fenix,
If you are wanting a wicked guitar to go along with the Rock band 2 one (which is the best) I urge yout o pick up the Madcatz Fender Bass replica for the 360. It's a standalone guitar but it is awesome. I got to use it at my borthers house and the thing is awesome.
http://www.buy.com/prod/official-rock-band-fender-precision-bass-guitar-replica-for-xbox-360/q/loc/108/208289377.html
It has two strummers so you can strum up and down with two different fingers like an actual bass guitar. I would say pick up the RB 2 drums and guitar, the GH:WT game disc and the madcatz bass guitar for the best setup possiblr. The GH:WT guitar was a huge letdown for me. I hate how they added the touch sensor for solo's.
My honest opinion is that World Tour is an inferior product. We haven't played it at all since we picked up both because rock band is so much better in every way.

Before I say this let me say I love the Rockband games and think in terms of software is the better of the 2 games. Having said that the guitars are shit. The neck needs to be thicker and less flimsy. Red Octane makes the best guitar controllers and is one of the few reasons I bought Guitar hero bundles and not rockband.

I'll pass on this one. I'm not a Metallica fan, and I'm frankly underwhelmed with what the GH series has become. I loved GH 1 and 2, but the franchise lost something vital when Harmonix was no longer involved. Plus, Activision is obviously milking this teat until nothing but dust comes out.

Way to saturate the market even more EA... I mean ACTIVISION... man that is so weird to have to say because crap like this is such an EA move. Activision is going to destroy the Music game market but over loading it with garbage moves like this. Yeah people like Metalica but why try to convince people to buy it by adding useless "story elements"? just to get people to think it's worth 60 bucks? Save yourself the copy/paste job and just release the music as a DLC pack for one of the other half dozen GH games out there for 20 bucks, you'll have an easier time convincing people to buy THAT.

You're right I would be excited and you know why? (I'm starting to feel like a broken record today)....Because I would have been able to copy them all to my hard drive to play under one game: Rock Band 2.
