it won't sell as well as Call of Duty 4's DLC. This is way too soon... plus 3 maps for 800??? That's pretty weak. Obvs they're going to have 2-3 more waves of maps coming soon.

Just a question: I heard a rumor that these maps can only be used in matchmaking, and not Horde? Any truth to that?

blah blah blah

Bashing these maps is ultra-stupid.

Unlike COD4 and Halo, you can actually PLAY these maps anytime you want, on Horde or with friends or even bots . Best map value in the past year.

Wrong. Private matches are online matches.

You're talking about matchmaking. We've heard it.

I always find it amazing that people pay 60+ dollars for a game, and when a huge part of it doesn't work they, for some reason, defend it. I don't know if it makes them feel better about the money they spent or what. But to defend the game for being broken, and then to actually call this the best map value of the past year is ridiculous. One of the dumbest things I've read in a long time, actually.

Here comes Offday... never has a truer screen name been created.

The game is broken for people who try to play matchmaking. Yes. Been documented a billion times. And a billion and one with your post.

For the other multiplayer modes that I already mentioned, including private online matches, the game is not broken at all. Far from it. It's fun and good. And the maps are good as well.

How is this not clear to you?

You can be as spiteful as you want, and you often are here on these forums, but you'll be doing it without benefit of the facts... again.

I can play any halo 3 map anytime I want, with anyone I want. It's called the "custom games" lobby, in case you hadn't heard. I just invite my friends (or enemies) and we can play all day on whatever map, in any game type.

this wasn't meant to be a debate. i think you understand that halo or cod4 doesn't have horde mode, which is a reason to get these maps all by itself, or bot support that makes private matches more doable with fewer players.

if you don't want to buy the maps, then don't. but it is obvious that a game with well-integrated bot support makes these maps more usable than COD4 maps that can only be used in matchmaking and get vetoed all the time (Chinatown?)... or Halo 3 maps that are in a separate DLC pool with half the players...

I'm sure you understand this. Start your own point instead of being stupid-critical of others.

And how is this not to clear to you?

I paid 60 dollars not just for horde mode, or private matches, but also for matchmaking. And it's a little hard to play private matches when all of my friends who once played Gears, have quit and moved on to other games that actually work.

Telling me to play horde or private matches doesn't fix anything. It's also been said a billion times, and with your comment a billion and one times.

Part of that 60 bucks I paid went towards matchmaking, and when I bought it I expected it to work. And here we are over a month later and it still sucks. And if that wasn't bad enough Epic has the nerve to release a map pack that was obviously already on the disc, and then charge us 10 bucks for it?

Telling me I'm wrong and not getting the facts straight all you want, but there is a reason why lots of people agree with me and only a few agree with you. Look around.

I'll agree with you that horde is great fun, I honestly LIKE Gears 2. But how can you not see that they're charging us for content that shipped ON THE DISK? therfore, IMO, worst map value all year.

I think you guys misunderstood me. I said that I felt that these Gears2 maps were a better value than other DLC I've paid for, because I can use them in more ways than just matchmaking. I didn't get much out of my $10 for the COD4 maps or the Halo Legendary maps.

Obviously, I did not say it's a great value to have Gears 2 matchmaking be a bummer. WTF? My comment was in contrast to Halo/COD4 DLC.

I've purchased all the DLC for these AAA shooters (even Halo3 Heroic back in the day) so I think I have the right to say, these maps will get used more by this player than those maps did, even with matchmaking having issues.

Are you guys the comment police? If MM is broken that's the beginning and end for you. That's fine. I wouldn't tack onto your comment with all this negativity. I'd say, hey, that's what he thinks. God bless America!

There is no way I am buying these maps. I've hardly been able to play all of the 15 older maps because of the awful matchmaking and stupid voting system. And don't even start with the private matches, I shouldn't have to continuously "invite" strangers to my games. Oh yeah, and $10 is way too much for 3 maps less than 2 months after release.

They didn't have to do much to make the map pack. Two out of the three came from gears1. Gold rush for the PC version of gears, and with a few control c/v we have a modified fuel depot.

Aside the fact that these maps are probably already on the disc (79mb for three maps?!)...Epic should be fixing this game rather than selling stuff for it.
Its actually quite disgusting to think that Epic has its own head so far up its own a*se that people will actually be dumb enough to pay for these so soon after buying an unworthy title...which imho has killed online play in any gears respect!!

Really? Other than the fact that that all they have to do is define the collision boundaries, spawn locations, environment variables, and events to a wire frame that pulls the mapping from images on the disk. Clearly, the maps are already on the disk and you know exactly what you're talking about.

That being said, remember what happened with the map packs in GoW, they were free after a few months. They should be free right around the time they fix Matchmaking in GoW2... which could possibly be never.

Yep...these maps were already finished by the time the game went to the shops. I doubt it takes only 1 whole month to create 3 new maps from scratch.
Its sickening to think that Epic were sat around there discussion table thinking..."yeah, were so great, were the best, weve got the public eating out of our hands coz they love gears so much, we can do this and this and that etc."
Epic have gotten way to cocky and big for there own boots and now they r going the same way as EA...naff games and a craving for our money regardless of how they get it. Shame on them.

If they had been ready by release, they would have released then. Because of the manufacturing time for the game after it was declared gold master, they probably just missed the cutoff by a couple weeks or less, thus they're out now.

I am dissapointed with the lack of online support and will not buy these maps for 2 reasons. 1. online is buggy. 2. Price. There are too many other games out that I would rather buy as opposed to this. I saw the orange box at the store the other day (new) for 9 bucks. Obviously it was quite discounted, but that is my point. I can buy 5 games for 9 bucks, or 3 maps. I might reconsider after the holidays and see what kind of cash flow comes in from the grandparents and what not. Maybe by then the game will be patched. On a positive note, I have not had any problems with private matches or horde or campaign. If that is all you play anyways, maybe it is worth it. Opinions, opinions.

You can't go wrong with 5 games for $9. However, when you get to the part where you play Team Fortress 2 online, remember how much better you had it with Gears 2. Seriously, it's that botched.

so last night I decide to try this "gears of war 2" game that so many people have been talking about. (online, I have already beaten the campaign) (oh yeah, and played horde a few hundred times) (but ive never played the other MP modes)(..)

So. after waiting what seemed to be an hour and a half (it was more like 10 minutes maybe) I finally end up in a match.

Taking a quick glance at my opponents names I came across a "super dunners". This is when the fear set in.

Luckily I wasnt able to survive long enough to fall victim to his chainsaw attacks which leaves me with enough dignity to show myself around these parts.

Also, that game aint bad! Apparently its a bit more tactical than I had imagined.

Next time your mine Burg!

Heres a crazy idea that most people will probably agree with....

...Why not bring all of the new features from gears 2 as an update for gears 1!
Ill gladly play gears 1 again if they transfered the new maps, weapons and tactics to the game that needs no tweaking!
Just a though, but whos with me on this??

Good idea....Bad idea?!

These maps actually look kinda bitchin. I don't think it's the value of the maps that has people upset, but rather the PERCEIVED value of the maps created by the circumstances they were released under.

All I saw was a montage of how broken the game's online is. It's sad that the game is so fun to play, but as soon as someone runs at you with the the chainsaw for the 18th time, despite you shooting them twice with the shotgun, you get kind of sick of it.

Watch the last 10 seconds of the "Gold Rush" video... It's ridiculous. At least 4 bullets were put in to him as the chainsaw was revved.

Yep...Epic, now so full of itself based on the popularity of the first game has now become the corporate tool that we all hate.
What gets me is all these people who say.."pah its only 800pnts , just buy it and stop whinging, its not alot."

Heres a few pointers for you to consider....

For something which is already on the disc..your being conned out of money.
For something which has been finished before you even played the game..your being manipulated for your love of the game.
And for something to come out so soon after release...your being laughed at because epic/microsoft know that there are mugs out there that wont see all this marketing bullsh*t for what it is and just take it on the chin and actually pay for it whilst at the same time defend it against people who actually see the underwritten plot for what it is!!

$10.00 is way to much for 3 maps when you consider the amount of content you get for $60.00 in the full game. And after all the B.S. with matchmaking, they should be free. Hell, that was enough to make me quit playing altogether.

Rick, if that's your explanation, why wouldn't they just give them for free....? Either way, they should give them for free anyways, as an apology for shitty matchmaking. Oh, wait, Epic claims it's a "very small" percentage of people with problems, so they shouldn't have to. Yet 99% of the people on internet say they have problems and they still deny it. They sound like Microsoft with that whole RROD fiasco. And they say they are still working on it. BUT WHY!?! According to them, they fixed the problem a month ago.

And now Epic wants me to pay $10 more for a measly 3 maps, when I already paid $65 for 15 maps that I have hardly played because I don't have a desire to sit for 1 hour to play 2 or 3 ten minute games.

Wah wah, poor me.
