Batman: Arkham Asylum gets Hamill's Joker, Conroy's Batman

While we remain largely undecided regarding Rocksteady Studios' "graphically distinct" take on Bruce Wayne's alter ego (spoiler! - Ed.), today's news brings us dangerously close to being pulled off the fence as we continue to wait for Batman: Arkham Asylum to ship next summer for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

I'm sold.
(I'm also apparently a cheap date.)
Temidien @ Dec 17th 2008 2:36PM
Agreed, I'm off to pre-order it now.
heyo007 @ Dec 17th 2008 3:34PM
Count me in as well. Cheap dates are what's happening these days!
Jigga @ Dec 17th 2008 4:08PM
Me too. Except I'm not really going to buy it. I'll just add it to the top of my Gamefly queue.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 17th 2008 2:24PM
Well at least we know the voice acting will be awesome.
NaeemTHM @ Dec 17th 2008 3:19PM
And the story! Paul Dini is writing!
The Dark Wayne @ Dec 17th 2008 4:43PM
yes! I couldn't be happier!
Questworld @ Dec 18th 2008 12:55AM
This and Ghostbusters. Please don't screw it up like, say, on the level of Alone in the Dark. We've got good writers and great voice talent that tickle people's nostalgia for the properties. It would be such a hair pulling tragedy to get this caliber of talent only to get another buggy, poorly executed game. At least kill bugs if nothing else.
Mr Khan @ Dec 17th 2008 2:28PM
Nice. That show was just a taste of the superior animation of the 90's (as nowadays if its not made in Flash or crappy CG, it's probably an anime)
wavebossa @ Dec 17th 2008 2:36PM
umm, or it's a DC based or Marvel Based superhero show like wolverine and the x-men.
Japan isn't the only country with good cartoons, but they do have 99% of the good cartoon market
chispito @ Dec 17th 2008 2:40PM
Disney Afternoon had some awesome stuff.
Deeznuts420 @ Dec 17th 2008 2:48PM
wb on saturday mornings used to be the shit.
ShinkuEX @ Dec 17th 2008 3:32PM
WB and Fox Kids. Mighty Morphin Powers Rangers, Bobby's World, Spider-Man: the Animated Series, Beast Wars, Eek! Stravaganza, Animaniacs, Swamp Thing, Taz Mania, Peter Pan and the Pirates, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Incredible Crash Dummies, Goosebumps, Ned's Newt, The Tick...
The list goes on and on.
Jigga @ Dec 17th 2008 4:09PM
You just name some of the worst Saturday morning cartoons. How you can lump those in with Batman The Animated Series is beyond me
The Dark Wayne @ Dec 17th 2008 4:44PM
but he listed BEAST WARS!!! And Spider-Man TAS
E.J. @ Dec 17th 2008 5:09PM
Show a little mercy; he listed The Tick, Spider-Man: TAS, and Animaniacs in there.
SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!
Adrian @ Dec 17th 2008 5:57PM
Hopefully he is refering to the original MMPR. Oh, Kimberly
MowDownJoe @ Dec 17th 2008 6:58PM
The fact that the list doesn't have Sam & Max: Freelance Police makes me doubt his taste.
Cuppa_Ace @ Dec 17th 2008 2:28PM
This news makes this game an automatic buy for me!

Nothing like having those intrusive ads interrupt you when you are about to post.Good thing the comment was short.
Anyway Awesome,I loved Hamill's voice in Batman Animated.
AnthonyGalindoX @ Dec 17th 2008 2:31PM
Well, we have great visuals and a good cast. All we need now is the gameplay.
Jerk Face [GT:xJERKFACEx] @ Dec 17th 2008 2:34PM
But what about the unfiltered cigarette-smoking version of Batman's voice from the Dark Knight? : )
chispito @ Dec 17th 2008 2:43PM
It has been hard to get a constructive criticism in edgewise with all the recent Bale-worship (ha! I made an Old Testament pun). One of my least favorite aspects of the two recent outings is Batman's hokey voice.
Deeznuts420 @ Dec 17th 2008 2:50PM
i find myself liking it more, since there was no difference in bruce's and batmans voice in the animated version (IMO) yet there was the gravely voice that batman actually used in the comics (when it started to become a darker theme).
ryan @ Dec 17th 2008 3:18PM
Oh, yeaaah...Batman's voice DID sound different in the comic books...
aristokrat @ Dec 17th 2008 3:23PM
The dialogue was inked differntly, so it did "sound" different.
Ranko @ Dec 17th 2008 3:23PM
*Facepalm*
thesimplicity @ Dec 17th 2008 4:15PM
@Deeznuts420: There was a definite difference between the Batman and Bruce Wayne voices in the animated series. This is emphasized in the season one episode "On Leather Wings" during the scene in which Wayne takes a personal phone call while working in the batcave. Kevin Conroy's voice jumps about an octave while on the phone as Bruce Wayne, then goes back down when he resumes working... implying that Batman is the dominate personality and the playboy Bruce Wayne is the persona.
doom saber @ Dec 17th 2008 4:19PM
@deeznuts
I understand you did put imo, but there was actually a difference between Bruces' and Batmans' voice in the animated series though it was only kept around durin the first few seasons. Once the art became simplified, the voice of Bruce Wayne sounded the same as Batman. The distinction between the two personals disappeared even the spinoff series, Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.
In the new anime, the distinction between Bruce's and Batman's voice returns. You can hear the differences in voices of Conroy's Batman in the recent Batman Gotham Knights anime.

@deezenuts
if you can't tell the different between wayne and batmans voice in batman the animated series, you probably weren't listening closely enough...or weren't a real fan of the series. there's a big difference, not as kick in your front teeth obvious as bale, but a different nonetheless.
Deeznuts420 @ Dec 18th 2008 8:47AM
it was as obvious as superman taking off his glasses and putting gel on his hair....
Mauricio @ Dec 17th 2008 2:37PM
Fucking awesome! I'm buying!
ObiBen @ Dec 17th 2008 2:38PM
Batman+Conory+Hamill = one happy Batman fan. I agree with others in hoping that the gameplay will be as good as the cast.
Envoy @ Dec 17th 2008 2:48PM
Hope summer doesn't mean late August.
Mike @ Dec 17th 2008 3:17PM
It doesn't, it means late October.
Kizzle @ Dec 17th 2008 2:49PM
Oh come on now, they should pony up for Heath Ledger.
Jerk Face [GT:xJERKFACEx] @ Dec 17th 2008 2:55PM
Oh ho ho.... Bad form! : D
Obie @ Dec 17th 2008 2:56PM
Ummm...hate to break it to ya kid, not gonna happen.
ryan @ Dec 17th 2008 3:15PM
I second the notion for Heath Ledger as Joker! What happened to him this past January is no excuse! :P
Mike @ Dec 17th 2008 3:21PM
That could get expensive...
Shagittarius @ Dec 17th 2008 3:30PM
I'll take Nipsey Russell's corpse for the block.
Kizzle @ Dec 17th 2008 4:49PM
Obie: "Ummm...hate to break it to ya kid, not gonna happen."
Thanks for the tip, pops.
grover96 @ Dec 17th 2008 4:52PM
Too soon?
Coldbrand @ Dec 17th 2008 2:54PM
Fuck you Ledger assholes. We have Hamill again at last!
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Dec 17th 2008 3:10PM
BUT...
HEATH LEDGERS DIED FOR OUR SINS!
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Dec 17th 2008 3:17PM
Oh please sure, Hamil may have been the voice of the joker, Ledger's joker was at least the closest to the source material of what the Joker should be.
Mr Khan @ Dec 17th 2008 4:21PM
I think Hammill's Joker was the best placed out of them, if we compile four of them from history, say, the 60's TV Joker, Jack Nicholson's Joker, Hammill's Joker, and Ledger's Joker, Hammill sits between the extremes of the 60's Joker (who was a benign prankster at heart), and Ledger's Joker (an irreconcilable psychopath) Hammill's Joker was more humanized thus, while Ledger's was like a force of nature
The Dark Wayne @ Dec 17th 2008 4:48PM
I think Hamil's Joker was really the best. Ledger's was one extreme of the Joker, the murderous remorseless psycho, the other side of course being the harmless clown. TAS joker was a perfect mix of both, like in one episode where he comes up with a crazy plot to gain royalties from all fish taken from the Gotham river by poisoning the water with joker venom that made all the fish smile, and then trying to murder the desk clerk who couldnt pay him with a swordfish bomb
