Exclamation point: LittleBigMetalGear costume and level pack details

Old soldiers never die; they just become LittleBigPlanet costumes. Revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2008, the Old Snake SackBoy costume is a step closer to your PS3's HDD – and it's not on a solo mission.

Sony's Hong Kong PlayStation site now lists a Metal Gear Solid costume pack for LBP along with a level pack. Old Snake, Meryl, and Screaming Mantis are available separately; buy the set, and Sony throws in Raiden (MGS4 version). There are no details on the level pack contents, so, as LBP so wonderfully encourages, we'll have to use our imagination. Better yet, what would you like (or expect) it to include?

No date for the packs Stateside just yet, but it would make us awfully merry if Sony could sneak this into next Thursday's PSN Store update.

It's great that the snake costume pack has 3 other characters in it. This gives me hope that the Sephiroth costume will come with more final fantasy characters as well!

How much do costume packs normally go for in LBP?
And regardless that is so cute it hurts.

Kinda amazing how they turned that character around from MGS3 to MGS4. A little cybernetics goes a long, long, long way.

The icon for the level pack shows a few of the stickers you can expect to see in it.

Snake, your mission is to infiltrate Joystiq's servers. Our intel leads us to believe that there are three guards patrolling the nearby area- Killjebus, Fernando and the infamous Ozzy Ozbourne commercial!!! Evade the three guards, proceed into the main servers and shut down any advertisement spawners which may cause pop-ups such as the Pulse Pen commercial which ABSOLUTELY FREEZES MY COMPUTER!!!!

Am I the only one that finds that for all the focus being on creativity and imagintation that they're doing more to make everybody's experience the same?

Or am I misunderstanding things and these costume/level packs are just examples of what can be done using the new elements introduced as DLC?

It's completely up to you what you do with this (completely up to you whether you even buy it). With that mustache and the headband with different colors, people will make completely custom characters that will be unique. Look up some custom costumes and you'll be amazed with what people come up with using parts of different costumes.

Of course, if you just want to run around as Snake with what will inevitably be thousands of other Snakes, you can do that too.

Okay, so you CAN mix and match the different costume parts once you buy them. That's what I wondering.

Question, If i dont buy this but want to play a level which was made with items from this pack, would i be able to play it? Also, if my friend bought this and i didnt, and he was dressed up as snake, would i see the SolidSnakeBoy? or just a plain sak...(boy)?

you should be able to play the levels with your friend. He should also be able to see your snake sack boy

They're going to make a goddamn fortune off this nickel and dime costume shit. How long could that have possibly taken them to make? Nevermind that the community could have done it better and faster, and would happily have given their creation to the masses free of charge.

I'll admit it, I'm struggling to think of references.

It's going to be interesting. They're giving us game-themed level creation packs, but at the same time they don't let us create game-themed levels. Something has to give.

As I've said before... LittleBigPlanet has more fanservice for more games than Home. Home has spaces based on two games, and no game-based costumes. LittleBigPlanet has costumes based on several games - God of War, Street Fighter, MetalGearSolid - and user-generated levels based on many more games. LittleBigPlanet is a better Home than Home!

It really is. If they'd made an open-world persistent LBP with room for hundreds of players, it would have been a million times better than what Home is. Even without set goals, you'd be able to jump around and play with stuff while you waste time.

God, why didn't they give Home *some* kind of gameplay?

Forget LittleBigPlanet as just a game. For the next Playstation (or heck, maybe for the PS3), I want to see LittleBigPlanet as the entire interface.

Haha... that would be kind of cool. Imagine having the XMC be made out of LBP objects and having a sackboy you could move around your dash. And make it like the game where you could decorate your dash... maybe add some swings to your menu items. Then if you invite someone to a chat their sackboy pops into your dash. It would be awesome.

This'll probably be the only paid DLC I'm gonna buy for LBP.
