Dance Dance Revolution should work well. The iPhone already has Tap Tap Revenge which is decent, but the touch sequences are too random and don't progress the way Dance Dance Revolution games usually do.

I think Harmonix's Frequency and Amplitude would be great on the iPhone.

Has been since August 1st. I'm surprised Kotaku and Joystiq didn't mention this.

"a first-person 3D shooting game that lets players utilize the control features only found on the iPhone and iPod touch ..."

Well, assuming they're talking about the accelerometer and multi-touch, I'm quite sure I've seen them elsewhere. Gaah it's like the early DS adverts making out that touch screens were brand new.

Metal Gear should be good fun though, Konami don't often make mistakes with him :)

As long as you've got the latest firmware, the iTouch can actually do more, it's got a faster processor.

They have the same processor, the iPhone is scaled back to 402 while the touch is at 520 (I believe). However, I would be surprised if some type of app dependent throttle control gets introduced. Until now there really havent been a reason to implement such a thing. But if gaming gets taking seriously, it could happen.

Now If only they decided to include a bigger battery... I would have paid an extra 40 bucks for and extra 2 hours of battery life.

People are more interested in the fact that it isn't coming to the 360 than about it coming to the iphone.

There has only ever been one good cell phone game, and that's Tornado Mania.

I think that DS, PSP, Wii, and Xbox are doing fine without huge support from Konami, but I wonder why they ignore these platforms when it comes to their flagship games, like MGS. I mean, clearly they'd make a killing selling the game on any of those platforms... so why spend so much time and money focusing only on the smaller install base of the PS3 or the niche iPhone?

This is exactly what I'm talking about and why I thought an Iphone game would be silly. It would have made more sense to make a game for a platform with a bigger fanbase that would buy your game.

Marty: They've been rather loyal to Sony so far. I believe all of their MGS games came out on Sony systems first, then got ported to other systems awhile later. It just makes sense. Not to mention MGS4 requires more room than a dual-layer DVD has, so blu-ray is a natural choice.

As for the iPhone, I can only imagine their love of Apple (and Apple wanting more serious games on iPhone) led to this.

Think about it though, tons of people already have an iPhone for the phone features, so by making games for it they net another market in the process. They get to introduce a new crowd to the MGS series, one that might not have played it before. PSP is a more "core" system than the DS, so releasing another PSP title is smart, but won't really attract any new fans.

If Nintendo taught us anything, it's that sometimes reaching for a new market is all it takes to stab the competition in the back and sprint like mad for first place!

You're telling me that it's better to spend time on a market that enjoys casual games and buys hardware for many other reasons than to play games, rather than the larger, more established base of people who own gaming-dedicated machines who actually know about the game and want to play it?

Sorry, but I don't buy that. I know people are hot on games for the iPhone right now, but it just doesn't make sense to me to bring such a big franchise there when there are so many more people on other platforms.

I can agree with you on releasing on PS3 first, if it caters to people who expect that sort of thing, but that still doesn't explain why the game wouldn't be on other, larger platforms around the same time. Fiscally, it just doesn't make sense.

I'm sure the iPhone development costs and time are far less than the larger, more intense projects you're talking about, Marty.

Anyone that says the iphone isnt a gaming platform hasnt played the games on it. they are as fun as most psp and ds games if you pick the right ones. and those of you who say it doenst make sense for konami to do this, your crazy and bad business people! do you know how much publishers are making on a best selling iphone game? its a lot, look at the numbers.

Ugh, no thanks. There are very very few games that work better with touch screen-only controls, and I don't think any of these apply.

Watch apple come out with a dpad + button dock. As the platform matures, and game become a more compelling argument, I dont see why this is that far out of the loop.

Hell, it could even have an extended battery pack on it. I'm not an Apple fanboy, but as an iPhone owner, I would love to see it.

I hate that big titles are going to a particular phone. Not everyone has a AT&T nor wants AT&T service. And as for it being on the Touch, I have a Zune and don't want to touch the Touch.

If Apple wants in on the game market. Fine. But put out a standalone gaming system that operates the same without all the bells and whistles (i.e. - phone, MP3) for us to game on. Oh...um...please.
