Home connection fix coming Dec. 18

Ah, Error C-931. You're like a Wal-Mart greeter gone mad with power, picking and choosing who gets into the store. Well, buddy, your days are numbered. According to a post on SCEE's official Home support forum, you'll be out of a job soon. Happy Holidays.
Tomorrow's patch is "the first step in tackling the connection issues that you'll know as C-931 errors," according to the post. Wait – first step? "Its just a first step and we'll bring you more information this latter (sic) this week." Evidently, C-931 is legion and has one goal: keeping you from connecting to Home. Hopefully, thwarting you won't distract the Home team from its other tasks ... like giving people more to do once they get in.
[Thanks, stargateheaven]

am i the only one who had no problems and just raved in front of the psp advert
J @ Dec 17th 2008 2:14PM
Was there anyone else raving with you by the advert?
J @ Dec 17th 2008 3:02PM
well, considering all the updates and improvements that Sony keeps adding to the ps3 and its features, why is it hard to believe they won't listen to the complaints about Home and keep improving it.
Since home will always be a work in progress, they had to decide whether to release it this month when its playable enough, or delay it til '09 and prove their critics right about Home never coming out.
They seem focused on network stability right now, and they'll obviously add more features in the coming months.
No, i don't mind the downvotes. Any article about home is bound to attract all the ps3 haters and doubters, just like the DVD SCRATCHING attracted all the MS victims. teehee ;P
I joked with ANTCEP just to soften my critics. If I see someone raving by an advert, i'll join him or her next time. just don't let your guard down. huahaha
J @ Dec 17th 2008 3:34PM
I think i just contradicted myself by comparing Home to DVD scratching :\
ANTCEP @ Dec 17th 2008 5:09PM
i say i have had no problems and that i like to dance and i get downvoted?
SlyBeast @ Dec 17th 2008 1:58PM
How 'bout a patch to make it relevant? What a piece of shit.
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Dec 17th 2008 2:01PM
Is Home really that bad?
J @ Dec 17th 2008 2:08PM
no it's not, jakka, if you're into social networking. it is if you still thinks it's a fucking game. think of it as a feature. anyone trying to have fun with mii channel, and nxe??
Then again, it can be a game if you're creative enough.

lol @ downvote
Is it because I'm pro-360, so it must be some reverse-psychology quantum Sony bash!?
Obie @ Dec 17th 2008 2:14PM
The problem is not Home, it's Sony trying to pass it off as the next great thing. They themselves raised the bar so high, so when it ended up being a bad second life clone with poor games and awful marketing tripe...well...they only have themselves to blame.
J @ Dec 17th 2008 2:29PM
well, obie, it is a pretty ambitious project. I hope for its success, because then it'll only get better. If it fails, I'm afraid it'll hit Sony pretty hard.
Despite their "arrogance", I can't help but acknowledge, at least, all their big investments. Cell processor, Blu-ray, first party games, free psn, free Home. Many compliment Nintendo for taking a risk with motion controls, but Sony took VERY expensive risks as well.
MS also made a risky investment in poor hardware quality, yet we still want MS to succeed, right?
Obie @ Dec 17th 2008 3:02PM
@j: I applaud any company for taking risks, but when they backfire, they deserve criticism.
I criticize Sony for making the cell hard to program for, for using the PS3 as a blu-ray trojan horse.
But PSN being free is sweet, MS could learn a lesson from that.
CB @ Dec 17th 2008 3:12PM
"Is Home really that bad?"
At it's current state, I don't see how I want to frequently use Home. Yeah my friends that have PS3s (few) can have little speech bubbles over our heads or mics and stand around, looking at mini-games that we have to wait in line for. I'd rather jump on XBL, join a party and have a private group chat while playing actual games.
CB @ Dec 17th 2008 3:13PM
If someone likes it, fine but *I* just don't see it.
Jack Tretton @ Dec 17th 2008 3:13PM
"Is Home really that bad?"
Well, it's not really that good.
J @ Dec 17th 2008 3:23PM
Obie, I like you, but i just can't agree about the blu ray trojan horse.
After watching Appleseed Ex Machina in 1080p, without having to purchase another player or make more room in my cabinet, it seems like a plus. Also, considering that it may have just been a trojan horse, Sony could've just let it be a mediocre blu ray player, (like 360's hddvd addon,) and not one the best blu ray players on the market that it currently still is, though of course not forever.
I'm not saying the ps3 is perfect. It isn't as powerful as i really hoped it would be, (though Uncharted 2 and kz2 may suppress my doubts,) but I still like to encourage effort and progress.
We encourage MS's effort in making 360's more reliable, so we should encourage Sony when they try to make the ps3's extra features more functional. Unless you want them to fail, of course. But that's just silly ;P.
Obie @ Dec 17th 2008 3:41PM
J: Don't get me wrong. NOW the PS3 is the most affordable BR player, but launching it as such an expensive prince with tech that was honestly not needed for gameplay. Sony expected PS2 type sales and market saturation from the get-go, when that did not happen, I am sure they rethought their strategy.
But what is past is prologue.
J @ Dec 17th 2008 3:44PM
geez, don't remind me.
It STILL is pretty fucking expensive... but worth every penny :P
Obie @ Dec 17th 2008 3:47PM
Oh and I will get a Blu-ray player (PS3 or otherwise), seeing Wall-E and Dark Knight in 1080p at Best buy made me...

Marty @ Dec 17th 2008 2:04PM
They should fix the part of Home that makes it dangerous for girls to visit.
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Dec 17th 2008 2:06PM
That feature stays.
No girls on MAH intrawebs!
Vidikron @ Dec 17th 2008 2:07PM
Is that what keeps you away?
Ethan @ Dec 17th 2008 2:18PM
Breasts?
Marty @ Dec 17th 2008 2:23PM
Why, Vidikron? Are you lookin' for a date on Home?
Vidikron @ Dec 17th 2008 2:36PM
LOL
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 17th 2008 3:41PM
all the girls i know that game play on the box.
gamerchix.
when i went on home there was about 3 girls and 100 guys in the community area.
it reminded me of high school all over again.
each girl was surrounded by about 5 guys and when you walked by the group the guys seemed to be mad dogging... lol..
Vidikron @ Dec 17th 2008 4:54PM
Yeah, I saw a "girl" (who really knows!) surrounded by some guys in the theater and one was asking her to go back to his apartment.
My wife really doesn't game much on the PS3. Not enough puzzle games and such. She loves the XBLA due to all the games like JewelQuest. Lately she's also been playing Luxor 3 on the Wii.
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 17th 2008 5:35PM
my girlfriend is a playstation fan at heart, but even she has been playing more games on the box than ps3.
she has even played her ps2 more than ps3 for some reason...
i dont know.
myself too though.
kaneda @ Dec 17th 2008 5:58PM
Is there a 'quincy' like term for having a female avatar and pretending to cyber and then telling him that you are really a guy?...cause, uh, that's what my friend does.
tmontana213 @ Dec 17th 2008 2:11PM
I'm hungry...
xFenixKnightx @ Dec 17th 2008 2:39PM
Snickers sais hello...
Solomon @ Dec 17th 2008 2:20PM
The only people that are upset are the ones that thought Home was supposed to be a game, besides it's free and the last time I checked an icon on your XMB doesn't bite!
Neuromancer @ Dec 17th 2008 2:57PM
In this case, it does.
Gun Barrier @ Dec 17th 2008 7:53PM
lol it definitly does bite! Everytime i try to sign in to the PSN store i accidentally launch Home, wasting about 1 minute just loading and trying to quit it. The psn store and home symbols are just too similar looking.
gwangi @ Dec 17th 2008 2:24PM
Step 1: C-931 will be renamed Q-847
Jack Tretton @ Dec 17th 2008 3:15PM
Then renamed a second time to ED-209.
"Bitches leave."
Obie @ Dec 17th 2008 3:24PM
ED-209: "Turn off Home! You have 20 seconds to comply!"
Obie @ Dec 17th 2008 6:02PM
Actually Living on LV-426 might be more fun than home.
umm....hello??? @ Dec 17th 2008 2:28PM
everything you can do in Home you can do from the XMB....video/movie previews, game demos, etc. the only thing it adds is social networking, which if I was still a teen or in my early 20's would be fine.
I'd much rather just play a game or watch a movie than social network. there's a reason why I bought a videoGAME console.
Dirty @ Dec 17th 2008 2:46PM
Im of the opinion that social networking is for people who are bored.
I have no time to be doing shit like this. (though you could call joystiq comments social networking, I do this at work.... when Im bored).
Evan @ Dec 17th 2008 3:07PM
"everything you can do in Home you can do from the XMB....video/movie previews, game demos, etc."
No, you can't even do those things in Home. You can't choose which video/movie to watch (it plays whatever the Sony marketing department wants to drill into your head), and even if you could choose the video, you can't watch it without someone dancing in front of the movie screen like it was a strip-club stage. And game demos? You can't launch games from Home (wasn't that the whole original purpose?), and even if you could, they'd probably make you wait until a virtual PS3 is unoccupied, like you have to wait for a virtual arcade machine to be available, because they makes it more realistic or whatever excuse they made up.
Haggard @ Dec 17th 2008 2:28PM
I've never actually been able to log onto Home, but the one bit of it that appeals to me is the virtual apartment kind thing with Sims-style customisation and visual representations of your trophies, favorite games etc.
Dirty @ Dec 17th 2008 2:45PM
Yea too bad its not there..... Unless you pay for it.
Haggard @ Dec 17th 2008 3:19PM
Well yeah, I should have said the one bit of the concept.
xFenixKnightx @ Dec 17th 2008 2:47PM
HOME = Poo
Its true, its true!
Tyson @ Dec 17th 2008 2:53PM
I don't see anything special in Home. I really don't. If you do please clear this up for me.
Alien Lord @ Dec 17th 2008 3:21PM
Sony should scrap Home before it drags them even further down.
Christopher @ Dec 17th 2008 3:40PM
You see, this is the kind of stupid comment I just don't understand. Sure, Home may not be the next greatest thing, but how exactly is it dragging them down? No matter how good or bad it is we're no better off not having it.
Muu @ Dec 17th 2008 3:56PM
It's a legitimate claim; while having or not having Yaris available is fairly moot considering it's just another promotional game, HOME is something that was billed as the Next Big Thing. To then do a 180 and say "well, it IS free, what did you expect?" is like saying that the revamps to come won't be much better. There's nothing wrong with killing projects when they've been proven to have failed (Which Home hasn't, as arguably it's still in beta); hell, admitting a fault and then moving on should get high marks with all but the biggest of trolls wanting to point out every little fault available.
Alien Lord @ Dec 18th 2008 5:23AM
@ Muu a true beta would have all core features in and consistently functional, betas still always need tweaking, but when core features promised are not in a beta that's not good. Not only is this evidence of rushing/development issues but also kind of lets them off the hook in regards to previously mentioned features.
