We are entering a dark time for gaming, mark my words. Not necessarily "dark" like the industry crash, but innovation is about to get kicked in the balls and thrown out the back door - evidence of this is already popping up. Between original IPs selling like crap and companies shutting down/swallowing each other up, well...it doesn't look good.

I fucking just about HATE Activision at this point, but I think they are going to be proven more right than wrong since the general public is just flat-out ignorant.

Hope I'm wrong.

The problem is oversaturation. When every game is AAA (in terms of production values, not necessarily ratings) there is still only so much gamers can buy. I know many of you swallowed everything this holiday season had to offer, but the vast majority didn't, or quite simply couldn't

The industry simply isn't meant to sustain this many high-value titles, and some of them are going to fail. This is why you see all the western developers talking about scaling back to a handful of higher-quality wares

Not on the level it's at now. The economy - one of the major reasons this is happening - hasn't been the way it is at this point since prior to the days of the modern gaming (ie NES) era.

Agreed, and not only that...with the AAA production values comes games that take many more hours to complete. I know I can't be the only one who has dialed back their gaming purchases over the last couple of years since every game is a massive undertaking. At some point I either just stop playing due to lack of interest (GTA IV) or stick with one game so much that it keeps me from buying other stuff (Rock Band 2)

I'm with Mr.Khan there are tons of good games this season plus the ones that were released during this year.

I have bought most of the AAA titles for the xbaucks except for a few and I haven't played but just 1 or 2 of them since I simply don't have the time. In fact I extended a bit my schedule dedicated to gaming just to see if I could beat one of them in time.

In the case of the PSP and DS well I haven’t bought anything for those systems because I’m playing console games and there are lots of great games for PSP and DS that I want but I don’t have the time. Add this Christmas PS3 and I think I’ll have enough games for the next 2 years.

When I was a PC gamer I bought 1 or 2 games per year but in case of the consoles you have to be fast because there is also the issue that console communities die very quickly to the point that if you get a game 3 months later there won’t be anyone to play with online.

I’m having problems getting the last 4 achievements in Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.

You know, I think that I might have misjudged Phil when he was working for Sony. Maybe he's not so bad.

I always thought he was the only one at Sony who wasn't a complete dumbass.

He was a big advocator of social gaming - things like LBP and Home, and got fired for saying the Japanese didn't like social gaming (seen the LBP japan sales figures?).

He was the reason MM made LBP for the PS3. They said he just totally got the concept.

I have grown to like the guy over the years too. I hope he does some great things with Atari. Yet, I have trouble believing this title will do great with all of the years since the movies and the resulting lower numbers of fans out there to grab the game. I just don't see the masses screaming for this.

Only so many of us who liked the movies back in the day are gamers now as well, then you subtract the amount of people that are drawn to more high profile new ip's (compared to GB), and it seems your sales numbers can't be that amazing. There are just so many good titles out there to buy, and so many bad ones that trick average consumers into buying them at the same time.

Hopefully I am wrong though and Atari gets a big coup out of this.

Please please please, just give this game enough time to be fully cooked when you send it out the door with lots of crafty frosted goodness, instead of something well conceived but only half-baked like Alone in the Dark.

His title at Atari is Directeur Général Délégué because it's owned by infogrammes and they're French. And it's fancy.

I hope he's right but what are the chances of getting a follow-up game and still retain the actors? This could very well be a one time extravaganza and any sequel might have altered faces of Bill Murray and different voices.

Day one game for me, just for the fact they got the original cast in.
The fact that it helps rub some shit of the eye of that grinning cock, Kotick, is just a delicious bonus.

I'm loath to add fuel to pre-release hype, after railing against it for so long, but I'd be willing to bet that a properly-executed, multi-platform Ghostbusters game could be a $100 million seller BY ITSELF. Seriously, given how good the game looks to this point, and the previews up on (several) reputable sites saying it's fun to play on all platforms, I don't see how it could be an abject bomb. Plus, taking the effort to develop to each system's strengths make a compelling reason to get it on more than one system, for those who have multiple machines-- more money in the bank.

Unless there's a new movie coming out, running Ghostbusters through the sequel-grind mill is unnecessary. Just give the one game legs to run, and it will get you that $100M and more. "If you build it, they will come" and all that.

There was another kickass game in the realm of those called Wet. Anyone know who picked it up?

Unless I am greatly mistaken, people have been waiting for a good Ghostbusters game ever since the travesty that was Ghostbusters on the NES.

I think this game could reach the $100 million mark on its own, provided it's actually good.
