In a conference call today following the release of Take-Two's quarterly report, CFO Lainie Goldstein revealed the GTA franchise brought in $710 million so far this year. According to GameDaily, that aforementioned chunk of ducats would account for about 60% of the company's publishing sales. In Q4, GTA brought in $40 million, which is about 17% of the company's sales.
So ... yeah. The newsflash is GTA makes lots of money for Take-Two, which clearly is a huge shock to us all. Guess it's a good thing the company locked down the Rockstar talent then, huh?

GTA IV is my last GTA game. I was a GTA fanboy. I won't be getting any others. Saints Row 2 is so much better than GTA IV. More fun. Co-op story, Co-op activities. How the f*** wants to bowl or watch tv in a video game? Saints Row 2 raised the bar. GTA upped the graphics then made it blurry and upped the realism. GTA is not known for realism.
Oh well, I want to see Saints Row 3 :).

I feel like going on a rant so here is why I disliked GTA IV:
First of all, its a very mechanically sound game. I had no problems with the driving/shooting, sound design etc.
I didn't like any of the main characters (except for Jacob and the gay dude). I found them to be incredibly annoying. I didn't like the fact that I got a call on my phone, and was punished if I didn't feel like participating in some inane mini game with my "buddies". The rewards for being super friendly with people were almost completely useless.
Running around and causing havoc for no reason gets boring to be after about five minutes, so that aspect of the game is completely lost to me.
My main problem is that it seems like Rockstar tried to build a world that was "realistic" but failed in making real in any significant way. You can't really interact with the world aside from stealing cars and shooting people. There are no consequences for running red lights, getting hit by cars, speeding, etc. Police give up chasing you way to quickly.
I think there should have been an option to turn on a "hardcore" mode, that made the police respond to things in a realistic way. That would have made the game infinitely more interesting to me.
Another major problem I had was that the missions offered almost no room for improvisation of creativity. Its like Rockstar gave me a ton of Legos to play with but only allowed me to built stuff if I followed the instructions.
The last ten hours of the game was a grind for me. The only reason I played was because I had gone through almost twenty hours before, and I was determined to see the ending.

It does suck, its so boring i could not finish the game. All you do is go talk to some guy, go kill someone, then run away from the cops, then repeat.

Holy crap, that's a lot of money... maybe Take-Two should be bailing out the auto industry? After all, without any cars around, what will GTA5 be about?

Kind of a stupid thing to say considering how fast the Auto industry would waste the money. GM alone hemorrhages $20 million a day. They(auto ind.) would waste Take2's profits in less than a month.

The Asian, South American and European industries are still producing cars

GTA Tricycle was such a joke. The story was way over done and tried to be way too serious. Like when generic Slav love interest #3 died because of the decisions I'd made, they really expected me to care? The multiplayer and lobby setup for online was a complete blunder, and the matchmaking was horribly effed up. The tricycle riding mechanics were horrible.
It was a good game, not great, there's no way it deserved all the hype, or all the 11s, 12s, 150s, and A+^2 scores it got.

I don't know. Maybe I am alone on this one, but I liked GTA 4 pretty well. Sure, it may not be my favorite GTA to date (GTA 3, then VC and SA tied, then 4) but it is none the less a good game. Sure, it cut a lot back from SA, mainly all the crazy fun stuff (weapons, planes, four wheelers, tractors, that stuff). What was left? Driving cars and a few boats. I still played it for about 45 hours. I am excited for the DLC. I just hope that the next GTA entry brings more of the stuff they cut out back in. It is a beautiful game, a sweet city with lots to find. Point is, it may not be my favorite GTA, but it is still a good game.

The driving wasn't sloppy, it was realistic. They just made it so that you couldn't power slide around every corner.

I think this GTA had the most memorable characters. Or perhaps I have a short term memory and can only remember this latest installment =p

No, you're correct. The other games had mission hub characters, and that was about it. The only real character any of the games had was Lance Vance from GTA:VC, and the misc gangsters that were plain and stereotypical from San Andreas.
The characters in 4 had actual personality, and drawn out story lines.
