40 percent of Shaun White Snowboarding sales on Wii, sequel confirmed

Reuters reports that of the 259,000 copies of Shaun White Snowboarding Ubisoft sold in November, 40% of them were for Wii. In the same article, White himself reveals that a sequel to the game is already in the works.
"Now that I have the knowledge and I can speak to programmers better and I understand a lot more about what's possible and what's not possible, this will all help with the next game," White told Reuters. He reportedly told the sequel's developer that "using procedural snow accumulation and having the Cell's SPU3 handle the boarder's animation blending" would be, "like, wicked gnarly." (Okay, so we made up that second quote.)

Was this game any good?
Hashbrown Hunter @ Dec 18th 2008 6:00PM
Ironically, the Wii version was actually the best one from what I read on 1UP and IGN.
DBuck_Eye @ Dec 18th 2008 8:55PM
How is that in any way ironic?
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 18th 2008 9:31PM
Can't say I trust any review on a Wii game from IGN. Objectivity isn't really their area.
Noshino @ Dec 18th 2008 5:53PM
is the term gnarly still used? other than on "Disco" radio stations, I rarely, if at all, hear it anymore...
Shagittarius @ Dec 18th 2008 5:59PM
Thus proving the old texas addage: Fool me once shame on you , fool me twice I must be a Wii owner.
LordVesper007 @ Dec 18th 2008 6:03PM
You're such a hater.
It's one thing to hate on a losing system but to keep hating on success is beyond pathetic.
Still bitter after 2 years than the Wii is destroying the ps3 in every way?
Mr Khan @ Dec 18th 2008 6:09PM
Shaggi, i can't rate this particular troll higher than a D+. You usually pack the zingers, but in context, this one is just strange...
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 18th 2008 6:14PM
Actually Vesper, I believe Shag was referring to Gears of War multiplayer
http://www.instantrimshot.com/
But Shag is correct yet again. I mean, look at their metacritic scores! The PS360 versions are ranked.....much...higher.........nope, Shag's wrong as usual
360/PS3

Shagittarius @ Dec 18th 2008 6:17PM
Those metacritic scores are adjusted for knuckledraggers. The general rule is if it involves the use of your feet or your ass add 10 points.
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 18th 2008 6:22PM
O RLY? I believe the rule is "If you can question someones race, religion, or sexual preference over Xbox Live, add 20 points"
Case and Point:
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/halo3?q=Halo%203
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 18th 2008 6:25PM
Also, just thought I'd point out the difference between the scores is 17 points, not 10.
But then again, I should've never relied on a knuckledragger such as yourself to help me with my math homework
Shagittarius @ Dec 18th 2008 6:30PM
If I could question Shawn White's sexual preference directly to him over Xbox live I'd give it the extra 10 pts.
But that would have to be on the box.
Noshino @ Dec 18th 2008 7:06PM
"Still bitter after 2 years than the Wii is destroying the ps3 in every way?"
huh? I have yet to see how the Wii is destroying the PS3 when it comes to games or features :]
Moptimus,
uh, you should REALLY read those reviews, for example, the one for 1up is all over the place
He praises the use of the Balance Board for its realism, but then again, he states that snowboarders might think otherwise
He praises the multiplayer aspect, even though it is only local multiplayer...not only that, you can only use 1 balance board
Oh, and this
"It would've been better to tie the multiplayer and solo story modes together, but the game's short enough that it adds a little extra life to the title."
uh? really?...
in sports games the multiplayer tends to be the biggest part of the game, yet it seems the replayability of this title is low...
Seriously, did he just randomly pick a score?
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 18th 2008 7:40PM
Nosh:
"He praises the use of the Balance Board for its realism, but then again, he states that snowboarders might think otherwise"
GUESS WHAT?
Nobody gives a shit about what "Snowboarders" think. Look at all the people who hate on Guitar Hero or Rock Band because it isn't "realistic", now look at how well the games are selling.
"He praises the multiplayer aspect, even though it is only local multiplayer"
Again, Rock Band argument. Im sure the only online feature a lot of people use is getting new songs.
"not only that, you can only use 1 balance board"
Captain Obvious, I presume?
"in sports games the multiplayer tends to be the biggest part of the game, yet it seems the replayability of this title is low..."
wha? You say multiplayer is important, pick out a review that praises the games multiplayer, yet present it as a negative? Also, cant that be said about any other sports game if you take it at face value replaying the same holes in Tiger Woods, playing the same teams year after year in Madden, etc.
Noshino @ Dec 18th 2008 8:01PM
"Nobody gives a shit about what "Snowboarders" think. Look at all the people who hate on Guitar Hero or Rock Band because it isn't "realistic", now look at how well the games are selling"
Funny thing is that one of the reasons why GH got some much crap was because it was overcharting, while RB got a lot of praise because it was closer to the actual notes, and yep, they are selling
"Again, Rock Band argument. Im sure the only online feature a lot of people use is getting new songs. "
uh? many play online? and then again, this is a sports game, not a party game, so the use of online multiplayer is even more common
"Captain Obvious, I presume? "
huh? how is it obvious? really, if I read that the game supports the balance board, and multiplayer, my first thought would be that both players will be able to use a balance board to play.
"wha? You say multiplayer is important, pick out a review that praises the games multiplayer, yet present it as a negative?"
What? what the review praises are some new modes and the execution of such, but it mentions the lack of online multiplayer, how the multiplayer "adds a little extra life to the title", and also the support of only 1 board for multiplayer....how is that NOT negative?
the worst part is that despite all of those flaws, the title was still given an A...
"Also, cant that be said about any other sports game if you take it at face value replaying the same holes in Tiger Woods, playing the same teams year after year in Madden, etc."
What does that have to do with the lackluster multiplayer features of this title? oh, and as far as Fifa and Madden goes, nope, the same can't be said.
Moptimus, praise the title for what it does right, and don't excuse it for its shortcomings
LordVesper007 @ Dec 18th 2008 6:01PM
THE WII IS DESTROYING GAMING!
But seriously the balance board is a BIG part of that. Lots of people have bought Wii Fit and everyday I get asked, "What other games work with the balance board".
So of course I point them to Shaun White, Wii Ski, and Jillians Workout whatever.
Then they are satisfied.
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 18th 2008 6:09PM
No Vesper, you are destroying gaming. How can you recommend that Fitness Ultimatum? Even the "soccer moms" on Amazon think that game sucks
LordVesper007 @ Dec 18th 2008 6:17PM
I'm not recommending it. I'm just answering their questions man.
They ask and I give them the honest answer.
I personally haven't heard anything good or bad about the game. It looks cool though from all the vids I've seen but I haven't played it for even 10 seconds so I can't comment on if it's truly fun or not.
But I can answer a question about what controller it will use. Or which games use the wheel from mario kart.
No need to freak out.
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 18th 2008 6:30PM
still, you could always throw in Skate It or Raving Rabbids TV Party, Tetris Party (I know, that defeats the purpose of working for Game Retailer X). Or tell them to wait for Punch-Out!!(maybe) or EA Fitness
Mr Khan @ Dec 18th 2008 6:07PM
the balance board, the general motion controls, and the fact that they didn't attempt anything quite so overly-ambitious as they tried with the HD versions
It helps if you really tailor your Wii efforts to the console's strengths. Stacking it up straight against an HD version is only going to lead to sales doom (Madden, World at War, others that escape my mind)
cozza99 @ Dec 19th 2008 9:43AM
Coming to stores in 2010:
Shaun White's Undersnow
Shaun White's Undersnow 2
Shaun White's American Snowland
Shaun White's Project 10(8 already taken)
Shaun White's Proving Ground
etc. etc.
Names tweaked to avoid copyright infringement with the 'other' franchise.
Anyway, wasn't this already a sequel to the one made by Activision in 2002 or so for the PS2?
Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Dec 18th 2008 9:33PM
Then you probably totally aren't going all agro on that kicker you pickle reaver, hit the slopes yo and you'll totally hear gnarly.
jouten @ Dec 19th 2008 3:47AM
I might get this game cause I have the Wii Fit board. Looks like a fun game friends can play? Anyone else that actually OWNS the game know?
Jake B @ Dec 19th 2008 4:03AM
The graphics of that game footage is GARBAGE!
Lee @ Dec 19th 2008 6:25AM
I keep meaning to get this. I think I will tomorrow. All them sales prick my interest.
The Alex @ Dec 19th 2008 6:32PM
It's funny how great this game could have been if Shaun White WASN'T involved. The kid is too annoying... a serious case of ginger-vitis that needs to be cured.
On a side note, I only played this game on 360... more interested in achievements then digging my Balance Board out of the "relic accessory closet".
