Castlevania Chronicles on PSN today
Just a year and a half or so after it was rated by the ESRB, we're finally seeing Castlevania Chronicles show up on the PSN today for the bargain price of $5.99. So, if you're in the mood for a distinctly different take on Castlevania (well, not that different), merry Christmas. It may have gotten tepid reviews when it appeared on the PlayStation in 2001, but for six bucks it seems like a fine way to spend a December afternoon.

$5.99 is a superb deal considering original copies start at $30 on eBay.

This is good and all, but US PSN PSX support is seriously lacking... I have my credit card on standby just READY to give Sony my money! If they would just take 15 mins out of there day and toss Xenogears and MGS1 up on the US store, JPN PSN has it, so I know it can be done. PLEEEEEEEASE SONY!!!
Skyelark @ Dec 18th 2008 3:05PM
"their"- use proper grammar.
StingerVI @ Dec 18th 2008 3:09PM
* they're
acefondu @ Dec 18th 2008 3:10PM
The mere mention of Xenogears makes me drool. I would love nothing more than a digital copy of my favorite game of all time.
umm....hello??? @ Dec 18th 2008 3:22PM
* their
Skyelark is correct.
NOT they are (they're). c'mon.
StingerVI @ Dec 18th 2008 3:00PM
I'll put my PSP to good use tonight. I love Castlevania games. I've never played this one before

I'm sold...Castlevania fanatic here, so that wasn't difficult...now if Sony will just go ahead and put all of the NES/GB/GBA/DS Castlevanias in a PSN Bundle, I'd pay almost any price...even my soul.
"What is a man?! A miserable little pile of secrets! But enough talk...have at you!"

The only PS1 Castlevania game I've heard of is Symphony of the Night, and that's one of the best games I've ever played. I can't imagine this being better but I'll look it up
DangerMouse @ Dec 18th 2008 3:09PM
I still have the ps1 version. I guess it's now officially worthless ;)
The game isn't that great, but it's not bad at all for 5.99
acefondu @ Dec 18th 2008 3:12PM
And Skyelark is right it's "their" they're is a contraction for they are which if used in a sentence clearly doesn't work.
StingerVI @ Dec 18th 2008 3:19PM
I know that. I didn't even know what was going on. I just randomly commented with a form of there/they're/dare/their to be a part of the action
acefondu @ Dec 18th 2008 3:36PM
Heh, gotcha.
Hafk @ Dec 18th 2008 3:27PM
Different taste.....
Different taste?
WHAT DIFFERENT TASTE?!?!?!?
This is in the style of the original games!
People today....

I've been a diehard Castlevania fan since around 1989, still prefer the "oldschool" formula over the "Metroidvania" one and yet I still hate this game. If this ends up being the only taste of oldschool Castlevania that post-SotN players will ever see, then I would suspect they'd be re-affirmed in dismissing all of the previous games in the series.
As far as I'm concerned, this is only slightly less rotten than Haunted Castle and Castlevania Legends.
Tez @ Dec 18th 2008 3:34PM
Give me R-Type Delta and Einhander, you heartless bastards!
Reuben @ Dec 18th 2008 5:08PM
Holy hell. I thought this would never show up. I've always wanted to try this one but was never able to get a copy.
Alright, Sony, I'm listening.
Nick @ Dec 18th 2008 5:23PM
about time they put a good game on there (FYI, Sled Storm is way better than Sno-Cross).
Now, whats the ETA for Xenogears and Einhander?
Soggyweed @ Dec 18th 2008 6:56PM
Well, I actually liked this one alot. I thought that the werewolf boss was ridiculously cool.
...And arrange mode had those weird paintings in the second last stage.

Do PSOne games downloaded from US PSN work on European consoles? Disc-based PSOne games don't.
Nick @ Dec 19th 2008 12:42PM
Yes, but you'll need to set up an american account.
I've been downloading items from the Japanese PSN store on my American PS3
