EA just sent word out by news ticker that SimCity is now available for iPhone (and iPod touch). The game appears to be in the vein of SimCity 3000 and is listed for $10 on the App Store.
We're curious to hear how it plays, so let us know in the comments. If it's a solid SimCity experience (and fat fingers friendly), $10 doesn't seem like a bad price.

Are you using an Iphone or a Ipod Touch 2g ? Ive heard lots of complaints, centered towards the Iphone about App crashes, More so than the Ipod Touch.
Try resetting, It and running the App again, should work.. In theory.

So sick of all the whining about crashes in those reviews.
Here it is: Safari, Mail and some other apps run in the background after starting, using some protected memory. So when you try to run a BIG complex app like this theres not enough left.
Its bad programming on Apples part, theres not much the devs can do if you've been playing with your touch/phone all day and have filled that memory.
REBOOT, do the hold-home-button trick to kill those apps!

can anyone give me an honest assessment of the DS Sim City games? Any of 'em good?

There's Sim City DS and Sim City Creator (which is called Sim City 2 in Japan I THINK)

I played Sim City DS, and it was garbage. It had terrible frame rate problems that prevented it from being enjoyable at all.
Fwiw, this game looks like it took the graphics from the DS version, so maybe you should beware.

It's good, surprisingly so. The interface is excellent, and all icons are perfectly sized for your finger. Drag and drop things like zoning and roads feature finger sized icons at their edges to help you size them easily. Zooming is handled just like in Google maps, and the visuals are quite possibly the best I've seen on the iPhone, as is the music. As far as I can tell, it's almost a 1:1 translation of Sim City 3. I haven't spent enough time with it to comment on later stages of the game, but so far I'm very impressed. This is possibly the best game I've played on the iPhone yet.

The stability issues are from the people who don't restart after installing a new game.

That is the most annoying thing. Apple or the developers need to comb through reviews and get rid of the silly "I KANT PALY!!!" comments. On the description of EVERY GAME it clearly states "Please reset your iPhone"
WTF...

Why the heck would I have to reset my Touch after installing something? I thought it was running OS X, not Windows.

Well, from what people have been speculating about Jobs health, The Iphone soon might live up to the Moniker of the "Jesus Phone", if you catch my poor attempt at humor drift.

Listen mate, unless your die hard into storing Megatons of music The Ipod Touch 2g, is quite frankly, one of the best and most usefull pieces of tech I have ever purchased. Wifi, coupled with a real usable browser, intuitive touch interface that just works, and the app store, dear god at times I feel stupid for purchasing a Netbook. ;)

I agree with you Jesuz Circle. I've had mine about 2 weeks, and am still just dazzled by it. I've also had zero problems with freezing or crashing games. I can't believe how many hours I've pumped into Fieldrunners on it. What a great device.

Mine crashed a lot at first. Just reset the phone (hold the home and lock buttons until the screen shuts off). After I did that, it worked perfectly. I highly recommend the game. It plays just like SimCity 3000, albeit with a few small features missing (you can't rotate your view...as far as I'm aware).
Anyways, I'm going to kill my battery pretty quickly with this game.

If history is any guide, the people who'll pay such a premium price for apps quickly fall off within a week, then they offer it for much reduced or even for free.
I'll wait for the drop, same for Rolando which is ace but also too expensive for a mobile app.

I think it's time Joystiq adds a weekly 'iPhone' games post, the games are flowing out pretty solidly now from major devs and the small indie devs could really use the coverage.
TIME magazine even named an iPhone game (Fieldrunners) as one of their top 5 games of the year - that's 'top 5', not 'mobile top 5'.

I spent my $10 on Rolando.
Worth every penny.
I might buy this when EA cranks out an update, or two... I'm hearing it's pretty buggy.
