The Best Thing You'll See Today: DJ I-Dee's 8-bit music video
We don't claim to know much about music here at Joystiq (our long-time favorite band is Cap'n Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters) but we do know what warms us to our very cockles. That's exactly the effect achieved by DJ I-Dee's new video, "Swollen Dome/1991," which features more references to classic gaming than we can count.
Be forewarned though, like all of our very favorite Christmas songs, it contains profanity. Check it out after the break.

Song sucks...but the video is...mediocre?
Eddie @ Dec 18th 2008 10:57AM
That was awesome, thanks made my Thursday better.
Lawrence @ Dec 18th 2008 11:04AM
Interesting. The voice messages were... both good and bad (like all our favorite games seem to be!) and, while some made me laugh, most just felt out of place.
The lyrics could use some work I think. It seemed like it didn't know if it was a song or a series of messages, adding more singing and removing some unneeded messages would probably help.
I give it four "Morgan Sessler"s out of five.

the photo looks more like a snes 16bits than nes 8bits
samfish @ Dec 18th 2008 11:11AM
That looks more 16-bit than 8-bit to me.
I COMMAND THAT YOU CHANGE THE TITLE TO BETTER REFLECT MY JUDGMENT.
silverwolf761 @ Dec 18th 2008 12:03PM
I was about to say the same thing minus the demands, but that works too
J.Goodwin @ Dec 18th 2008 3:33PM
I concur.
zygote55 @ Dec 18th 2008 11:13AM
If that's the best thing I'm going to see today I should probably just go home sick.
ZaxCG2 @ Dec 18th 2008 2:15PM
Me too... except I really am sick. D:

I don't know...I think the Shrimp Shack Shooters sound a little too much like The Oneders. Or Fountains of Wayne.
CyberKnight @ Dec 18th 2008 12:24PM
The "Own-EE-ders?"
Wow, a "That Thing You Do" reference. And someone else who gets it. :D
Now *there's* some music I'd buy on Rock Band in a heartbeat!
hail2dking @ Dec 18th 2008 11:32AM
Well I saw some titties today...so, no this is not the best thing I'll see today...not even close
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Dec 18th 2008 11:46AM
Dude, stop walking in on your mom when she's changing. That's not cool.
UnitDaGamer @ Dec 18th 2008 11:43AM
the track and video was tight! And for those that thought this was a rap song it wasn't. It's more turntablism were it's beats mixed with scratching and sampling(the phone messages) etc
Deekman @ Dec 18th 2008 11:45AM
Pro Tip: That's 16 bit

All it takes is one visit to an internet message board to confirm that not all opinions are on equal footing.

FIG JAM: Phil Mickelson's tour nickname. It means Fuck I'm Good, Just Ask Me!
The more you know.

Not bad for a clip taken out of a DJ set. I wouldn't mind giving this guys album a listen.
On a related note: Porbably not the best thing you'll see today.

You're right, actually that is possibly the worst thing I'll see today...thank you.
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwich Poisoning Crew) @ Dec 18th 2008 1:11PM
Visited the DJ's my space page. I like his "style" and his stuff sounds technically proficient. Unfortunately his tracks go on for way to long imo, and are somewhat repetitive. Maybe in a year or two I would be willing to buy an album.

That made me hurl pig vomit into a bears ass
Beeker @ Dec 18th 2008 1:42PM
Meh, not quite the best thing. But here is something to pass the time. Pretty good in itself.

You guys can't even tell the difference between 8-bit and 16-bit? You disgust me, JoyStiq.
serotoninzero @ Dec 18th 2008 3:54PM
That game looked sweet co-op.
I think there needs to be a SNES homebrew revival.
Sonic_D @ Dec 18th 2008 9:18PM
The video I like, but his other track that uses the FFVII victory sample is fucking sweet:

Is this like a lost song from Parappa the Rapper or something? Reminds me of it for some reason...
