Remember those wireless SingStar mics? The ones which we thought we'd never see, thanks to Bluetooth issues? Apparently they're coming in the new year and you could've been one of the first to try them out. The SingStar MySpace page has the full details. "Out next year, the official SingStar wireless microphones will work on both PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 and allow you to really bust out your moves without busting your console."
The competition is now closed, but 100 SingStar fans will be sent the microphones to try out and keep for themselves before anyone else. We've been after wireless mics for a while now, so we're excited to get our hands on them next year. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

This has been going on for a few weeks actually, if I'm not mistaken. There are threads about it, at the official European PS3 forum (SingStar section) about the wireless microphone trial. It was posted at the SingStar U.K. Facebook group too a while ago.
Many who tested the headsets say they work great.

Why the hell does Singstar need a MySpace page?

Why does any corporation need a MySpace page? (like Cingular/AT&T). The world will never know...
It's understandable for artists and even movies but, when a movie makes their official website their MySpace page, that is pushing it.

I know better late than never, but goodness. Now, how about having all of those songs from all the SingStar PS2 discs available on the freaking US SingStore?

Not technically possible. The SingStar team has stated how they'd LOVE to have every song from a PS2 disc onto the SingStore, but there are a few problems:
-They can't just dump all songs from the discs, they have to re-license each song from the 1500+ songs from discs for download. The artist/company has to agree on it being okay for their song/video to be a download, and for people to share videos/music/pictures from the song.
-The main reason you do not see all songs in the SingStore is Universal Music Group. If you look at what company owns the rights to each song, you'll notice not a single song on the SingStore is apart of Universal Music Group. We don't know the exact reason there's no UMG songs in the SingStore (they are on discs), but it probably has to do with MS having some exclusive agreement with Universal (Universal, although different sector and slightly different ownership doesn't have any content in the video store), Universal feeling that $1.49 is too little for SingStore songs and wants more (basically, they want tons of money from SCEE London to consider, way too much), or there's just really bad blood between Sony and UMG. Queen, The Village People, etc. who have songs in the U.K. store, aren't in the NA SingStore because they are distributed by Universal in NA, while being distributed by someone else in Europe. "Heaven is a Place on Earth" was removed from the SingStore I heard (I could be wrong, but I know it's no there anymore) because it appears the artist is now owned by UMG. As long as UMG refuses to support the SingStore, we'll never see every disc song in the store (that's one reason there's a SingStar ABBA and none of their music is in the SingStore).

Sorry, but having them NOT be bluetooth and requiring a USB dongle is lame. These aren't really PS3 mics - they are mics for PS2, and happen to work on PS3.
So, basically they DID give up on the PS3 bluetooth mics, and fell back to dongled ones....

Surely if a headset can work wirelessly on the PS3, so can Singstar microphones.
By the way, the above link to photos only proves that there’s a dongle, which would be necessary for it to work on the PS2. It doesn’t prove that it doesn’t work on the PS3 without dongle. But yeah, I agree the chances of that are pretty slim.
But as long as the dongle doesn’t permanently reserve the first couple of controller ports like those god-forsaken Guitar Hero controller dongles, forcing me to change my controller’s port every single f***ing time I boot the system and want to play a game unless I take them out when not playing GH.

The issue was undoubtedly the cost of incorporating Bluetooth.

Oh by the way… Are Lips microphones USB as well? Would they by any chance work on the PS3? Regardless of their ghastly looks, wireless is nice :).
