Although we don't quite get the point of this second store (other than to make loads of money, of course), it certainly speaks to the power of the Nintendo brand ... especially among the TRU demographic.
Nintendo opens 'store within store' at Times Square Toys 'R' Us
33
The Toys "R" Us flagship store in Times Square now features a 1,000 square foot Nintendo department store inside of it. The Nintendo section features a DS bar with eight playable handhelds, a gallery of Nintendo images and is staffed by "Nintendo experts." It's really not that different from what you'd find at the Nintendo World Store, near Rockefeller Plaza.
Although we don't quite get the point of this second store (other than to make loads of money, of course), it certainly speaks to the power of the Nintendo brand ... especially among the TRU demographic.

Yeah, I always used to buy my N64 games at TRU. I have moved on from Nintendo since then and only go in TRU if they have good deals going on. Seems as though they always have sold lots of Nintendo stuff. Probably cause most little kids shop there and the kids also want that wii or ds. The hard core kids go to the mall with older sibblings and hang out in gamestops, crowding around the display console trying to show off to all of their little friends. Funny, the demographics.

Sweet. I was already heading up to NYC tomorrow. Even more of a reason to stop by TRU while I'm up there.

Good luck. All I see is a blanket of white snow from my window. We're getting bombarded with snow down here.

Really not that impressive actually. I wouldn't call it a "store" as much as a giant Nintendo display. It has the DS Bar, which replaces the DS station that used to be in the basement, and two large-screen TVs, playing a 2 year old game (Wii Sports) and a 1 year old game (Mario Kart), that, again replaces the large Nintendo screen in the basement. They have a selection of games, but again, not any larger than the one in the basement.
In the end, it pales in comparison to the Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Center, which has a large Pokemon Section, a little Nintendo museum, a dozen Wiis, a DS Bar,and a large selection of Nintendo merchandise.

I question the point of this since Nintendo already has their own store at Rcokefeller plaza, which is only a few blocks from this TRU.

It was really cool going to the Nintendo World Store. Just wish they could put stores like these around more cities.

Toys R Us is just about the only toy store left, sadly.

Whoa ritsy looking.. Chandeliers? A faux art gallery?
This will appeal to all those Nintendo haters who keep tossing out food analogies to describe this generation of consoles. Now they can come here with thier filet mignon and caviar and still feel classy even though they are touching a lowly Nintendo product.

Good job Nintendo, you've yet again impressed me with your superior marketing skills. Not only do you already have a store dedicated to selling only Nintendo products (henceforth called "Nintendo World Store") but you also need yet another store (referred to as "pointless TRU display" from now on.) Not only that, but they are located in the same cities and only blocks away from each other.
