Street Fighter IV gets new US box art, updated collector's edition specs

Capcom has released the official rundown of what's in the US collector's editions of Street Fighter IV – and what (or rather who) is not on the game's cover anymore. "We had a total re-think on our SFIV packaging," Capcom's PR director, Chris Kramer, wrote on the Capcom-Unity blog. "As a result of [fan feedback], we have opted to drop the initial Chun-Li packfront in favor of Street Fighter IV art director Ikeno-san's amazing Ryu vs. Ken illustration."
What's in the box is not all that different from what GameStop listed 10 days ago. Priced at $79.99, both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions come with the game, soundtrack CD, hint book, and either a C. Viper or Ryu figurine (360 and PS3, respectively). The final bit of bundled swag – a new 65-minute anime movie, The Ties That Bind – "sets up the story of SFIV by explaining events post-SFII." The Studio 4°C-produced film is on Blu-ray Disc for PS3 and a special game disc (not a standard DVD) for 360, which has allowed Capcom to encode it at 720p resolution.
Capcom says that the CEs also include "some secret additional downloadable content," which GameStop had previously listed as new costumes, but has since revised. Check out the high-res PS3 and 360 pack shots and CE photos in the gallery below.

SoulBlade @ Dec 19th 2008 10:36PM

Wildside @ Dec 19th 2008 10:40PM
I want to get the PC version but also the soundtrack too :(. A CE edition for PC would be nice. Wish for DX10 support too but doubt it.
sad robot @ Dec 19th 2008 10:45PM
already have mine reserved, hey what's with no 3rd strike characters? I liked the alpha series but i sure didn't like rose, dan and gen. Too bad no Q, 12, Urien.
Deck @ Dec 19th 2008 10:45PM
I do very much like the new box art.

Damn it, I still have about 3 years of games to go through. This is not helping my backlog.
(I am very slow when it comes to buying games)

Shut.The Fuck.Up.
you started the whole thing by posting a retarded "FIRST1!!!!!!111" comment, you have no room to be calling names or whining like a bitch for getting what you deserve.
capt_carl @ Dec 19th 2008 11:07PM
...yea I'm so gonna put down a reservation on this now.
capt_carl @ Dec 19th 2008 11:11PM
Crap, I re-read the article and saw that the 360 version gets the Crimson Viper figure. That's gay. Why not package both in, or just make it the same figure in both versions?
Demaar @ Dec 20th 2008 6:46AM
Noticed that too, pretty clear what the preferred SKU is.

Finally, proper box art. Capcom heard loud and clear no doubt that the Chun-Li box was a weak effort.
Nin10dude @ Dec 20th 2008 12:21AM
As much as the wait will hurt, I think I'll hold off for Street Fighter IV: Super Ultra Mambo Tango Foxtrot Championship HD Edition IX.
WiredKnight @ Dec 20th 2008 2:15AM
...Remix.
Paul S. @ Dec 20th 2008 12:27AM
I've hardly played Street Fighter, and yet I still see it as one of the most important games out there. I'm very tempted to get the PS3 collector's edition after seeing this (for the Ryu figure and the larger, better d-pad).
finaldarklord @ Dec 20th 2008 12:43AM
SOLD.
This and the 6 button pad will come out to about $120... the most I've spent on a single videogame in a long, long time :(
GearSecond!! (Gamertag: xGearSecondx ) @ Dec 20th 2008 12:44AM
Lovin the new boxart!! :D
Rob Accomando @ Dec 20th 2008 12:58AM
I Don't care about Box art, extra DVDs, tatoos, hint books, key chains, action figures, t-shirts, trading cards, stickers, etc. etc...
I just want to play the GAME.
ryan @ Dec 20th 2008 1:05AM
Alright! Everybody's getting the Japanese boxart! I may actually get this for the PS3 next year. May even be my first PS3 purchase.
sk8monroe81 @ Dec 20th 2008 1:19AM
and a special game disc (not a standard DVD) for 360, which has allowed Capcom to encode it at 720p resolution.
interesting comment:
death of blu ray? lol.. j/k
blu ray is nice, but this could be used more for 360 stuff i guess...
Vidikron @ Dec 20th 2008 2:31AM
Probably just something like WMV or another HD capable video format that the 360 handles natively. Plus, it's highly likely the audio is some standard lossy format. It says not a standard DVD, but I'm sure it actually is a DVD disc, just not a proper DVD video format. So, no, nothing really directly competive to BR since it would likely only play on the 360 or maybe a PC. Hell, if it's not WMV the PS3 may even play it since they have similar codec support.
Christian @ Dec 20th 2008 5:35AM
Blu-Rays normally are 1080p. And as vidicron said what they probably did was use a better compression format than MPEG2, like WMV. That said we do not know what bitrate they are using. It is the thing most HD discussions seems to miss, like how how HD transmissions over cable and satelitte in 720p tend to of quite a bit lower quality than 720p disc based media cause they use a lower bitrate. So it could be that while they can checklist 720p, the bitrate might be lower.
Shattercross @ Dec 20th 2008 11:53AM
They put it on the disc as if it were a ingame video which would allow them to use an HD resolution and still use standard DVD 9...pretty smart thinking on Capcom's part.
Andrew Yoon @ Dec 20th 2008 2:21PM
Also, this is only a 65 minute film. Won't take too much space.
shamon @ Dec 20th 2008 1:24AM
will be first to buy
WiredKnight @ Dec 20th 2008 2:14AM
Uh, I just noticed this: WTF is up with Ryu's leg?
It's all....wiggly.
ryan @ Dec 20th 2008 2:30AM
Just an optical illusion.
Nesta @ Dec 20th 2008 2:53AM
This is cool and all, but I did like that Chun-Li box art. Just sayin'
Ethan @ Dec 20th 2008 3:09AM
Spend your life confusing blades for gays and you'll end up with a very sore bottom.
Ethan @ Dec 20th 2008 3:11AM
I did like the old boxes, but you can just tell these are going to fly off the shelves.
Bloodwize @ Dec 20th 2008 3:42AM
This is worth the 79.99, wow.
Magetto @ Dec 20th 2008 5:38AM
They should have added Ryu as the figurine in the xbox version. Then on top of people arguing which of their respective consoles are better, they can also argue about whether Ken or Ryu is the best. :)
context @ Dec 20th 2008 6:18AM
And we still get the way more retarded muppet ryu face?? >
Bowser Rogozhin @ Dec 20th 2008 6:36AM
Where's Tatsunoko vs. Capcom?
Nael M. @ Dec 20th 2008 7:32AM
When you can formulate a plan to easily compensate the US rights holders for the Tatsunoko anime series involved while still making the investment worth Capcom USA's time, it'll happen.
Bowser Rogozhin @ Dec 20th 2008 8:19AM
Instead of Tekkaman call him Tekman; instead of Ken the Eagle call him Ben the Beagle...and so on.
Cast closed.
SirFishouse @ Dec 20th 2008 10:46AM
I played it at a tournament in Corpus Cristi, TX. Maybe it was the GC controllers that they had, but I wasn't feeling it. People are saying it's the next MvC2... Nah.
Stuff like when you do a special move, the animation for it eats up like 10sec of gameplay. Might not seem like much, but it gets annoying after a few times during the game. Other shit too. What's with the Sea horse. I know it's their logo, but come on... It should be something badass like a longhorn.
I do think it looks polished though.
novel @ Dec 20th 2008 10:49AM
wii, lol
ryan @ Dec 20th 2008 11:35AM
I would think playing any fighting game on the GC controller would leave a bad impression. :/
Bowser Rogozhin @ Dec 20th 2008 11:41AM
Because the Classic Controller doesn't exist, amirite.
ryan @ Dec 20th 2008 12:45PM
No, I was just saying that he probly had a bad impression because of the GC controller. Surely a classic controller is the way to go.
Snow Villiers @ Dec 20th 2008 10:08AM
That looks fucking sexy
CaptainProtonX @ Dec 20th 2008 10:36AM
Now to decide which figure will look best with my Chun-Li figure from the SSF2THDR (ugh) press kit.
=)
Capcom has actually given me a reason to get the PS3 edition.
Jawmuncher @ Dec 20th 2008 11:07AM
So when is Capcom dropping the specs on the US RE5 CE?
Premature ejaculation man @ Dec 20th 2008 9:50PM
I thought they already did.
SirFishouse @ Dec 20th 2008 11:10AM
That's a dumb insult...
If this guy confuses a kitchen knife for a gay then he wouldn't cut his food.
Now if he confuses gays for kitchen knifes, then he would be in trouble. Assuming that he too is gay, then he would end up cutting up his backside.
Even then, if you would have used the insult in the proper order, it would no longer be a relevant insult.
Shattercross @ Dec 20th 2008 11:57AM
Wow, I didn't know the Ryu figure was such a motivator for the PS3 version- if I picked up the 360 version I'd be perfectly happy with Crimson Viper.
