I don't this so, because Seed Studious is a single entity. For example, you say Microsoft was going to instead of Microsoft were going to. I think it is different in Europe though.

It's different in British and American English. In America, we treat teams as a single entity. In Britain, they're treated as plural.

I think the word "Studios" is throwing you off. It makes it look plural, which would mean you would use "were," but I think in this case is still singular, meaning "was" is correct.
Could be wrong though, just the way I see it.

Isn't Seed the newly formed studio by ex employees of Clover studio. In case you don't know who Clover (shame on you!) studio is, they created the Viewtiful Joe (spelling?) and Okami games.
