The ESRB has rated several classic Sega titles for the Xbox 360 and PS3, which are presumed to be future XBLA or PSN releases. IGN takes note that Gunstar Heroes, Phantasy Star II, Comix Zone and Sonic The Hedgehog 3 are all listed, but there's no word on release dates. All these titles are currently available on the Wii's Virtual Console.
Assuming these sell for $5 each if they come to XBLA and PSN, Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, releasing in "spring 2009" for $30, seems the more frugal choice. The disc-based collection features all of the above titles -- with the exception of Gunstar Heroes -- along with dozens more.

Yep and 720p full HD and Dolby Digital 5.0 surround sound doesn't hurt either.

I read it was scaled to 720p but it was probably using the technology you mention Knight, still that means you can play the classics in your Huge Ass HDTV without looking crappy, that's pretty cool, now can I have a Dreamcast collection or at least the Dreamcast games HD on the live arcade, Please my dreamcast is Dead and I want to play some Crazy Taxi,Jet Set Radio and Sonic Adventure 2 :(.

Both of those filtering methods (Sai goes up to 8x or something I think) have been available on tons of major emulators for a while now. Try it on Visual Boy Advance (I think that's the name). It looks really damn nice. Obviously not as nice as remastered sprites but making HD sprites must be the most laborious and boring job ever.

Because people like myself and many others will buy them. I'm ready to put some cash down for those games. I have them on Wii but don't really like the contols with the classic controller

IGN only assumed these would be coming to XBLA/PSN, chances are they're only being rated because they're being released on the collection. Why would they sell them seperate when they're being released together?
Also, Microsoft doesn't allow emulations of old games like this anymore, so unless they're massively enhanced, it's not happening.
The rating info is for the collection.

Some people would rather buy a few titles than the entire collection, perhaps. Which makes no sense, considering the collection is going to be a mere $30!

All games on the collection will have to be rated, yes. And again, Microsoft don't allow these emulations to go up on XBLA anymore, so that can't be the case, unless they've gone to the effort of completely porting them..
Which seems pointless, considering the collection coming.

SONIC 3 AND KNUCKLES would kick ass so hard. I bought that one for the PC,friggin awesome.
I hope Sega doesn't screw it like Sonic 2 adding an unnecessary online mode.

It adds an achievement which you can get with host advantage and a mode that is not all that fun to play.
Split screen = co-op Sweet.
Co-op over xlive = Awesome.
Vs mode using Special stages = WTH?

I'd love to see the original Toejam & Earl updated with online co-op and some HD cell shaded graphics.

I don't want Sonic 3 unless it has Sonic & Knuckles virtually attached to it.

AND you should be able to attach Sonic 2 to S&K if you own that on XBLA.

Oh man, if Gunstar Heroes comes out on XBLA with online play, I, may just have to double-dip on this one, owning the VC version already.

Same here, man. Same here. Also, we need more Treasure XBLA ports (Radiant Silvergun, Guardian Heroes, and [Saturn Version of] Silhouette Mirage anyone?)

I hope this is being done for the compilation, because if it isn't, Sega is very stupid for doing this when they could, oh, put Daytona USA up on XBLA/PSN...

I seem to remember wii virtual console being promised Sega Genesis games. We've had a lot of positive results (Echo the Dolphin brings back so many memories). But why is "Virtual Console" conspicuously left out of the title here. I dont like that...
