I have a couple horror songs on my PS3 and i'd like to play them on Fallout 3, NGS, MGS4 but sadly i can't because of a patent. Also i had no idea cross game invite was patented. $50 per year isn't what people make it out to be. A PS3 is $400 bucks atm and if i get a pro bundle i get XBL for 2 years til it matches the price of PS3. The online experience is nice due to its features. PSN and XBL connections are pretty much the same.

yea its up to the developers to add that music feature in there......damn patent.....but I dunno about the cross-game invites.....I thought I seen somewhere that they had a patent on the particular way that XBL does that as well.......I could be wrong tho.....and sure the price of a PS3 is a Pro Bundle and 2 years of Gold....but its more of a principle thing to me.....people complain about Sony Charging for clothes in home(which I agree is kinda stupid) but thats your CHOICE as to buy those things..and I have because its a few cents......but with XBLA Gold you HAVE to have it in order to play certain games online I guess thats what pisses me off about it......Games like Left4Dead I just get on Steam because Steam is FREE.....Microsoft learned with "Live For Windows" and ended up making it free.....if Sony Steps up the PSN then they will basically have to follow Suit again......

"(Fun fact: although it might seem like the retail price of PS3 isn't dropping as fast as PS2, both systems dropped exactly $100 during their first 24 months on sale.)"

That means the PS3 is dropping motr slowly. It's a ~33% drop versus a ~17% or 20% drop, depending on which SKU of the PS3 you get.

Aggie,

Uh, no. $100 is not $100. If I own a car company and release an entry level "Geo Metro" for $10,000 in 2008 and also a luxury sport "McLaren F1" for $1,000,000 the same year, then have a $1,000 off sale in 2009, the discount is not the same. I'd be offering a 10% discount on one car (a good deal) and a 0.001% discount on the other (not a good deal).

Furthermore, you have you math backwards. If you take inflation into account, the PS2 dropped MORE than $100. Any way you look at it, the PS2 dropped in price faster than the PS3.

dude are you stalking me???

Saying the PS2 is like a Metro and the PS3 is a McLauren is WAAAAAAAAY off.........

at any rate......the Dollar WAS up until earlier this year worth more than it was in 2001......so say the Dollar then was worth a dollar......then a dollar earlier this year may have been worth $1.25.....so $100 then would be $125 at the beginning of '08.......no thats not exact math....but its simply a simple example.....

Aggie,

Nope, not stalking you. You just happened to make a series of inaccurate statements. No hard feelings.

And my analogy was simply that- an analogy. Don't read too much into it. The point was that percentages are what's important when you're comparing two items of unequal value, not the actual dollar amount.

Finally, do you know what inflation is? I'm not saying you don't, but the way you worded your response sounded like you were confusing "inflation" with the strength of the dollar in the global market. Inflation can be influenced by the global economy for sure, but it is not dependent upon it.

Regardless of the global economy, $100 in the year 2000 is the equivalent of roughly $119 as of 2007. That means that even if you measured the pure dollar amount (rather than the more accurate percentage) the PS2 and PS3 have dropped, the PS3 would have to have reduced it's price by $120 in the same time frame as the PS2 reduced its price by $100 to be equivalent.

Since the PS3 did not reduce its price by $120 nor by the same percentage, there is no way mathematically possible to state that the PS3 reduced it's price to the same degree as the PS2 in the same time frame. That's all I was trying to say.

he has a point........

If the PS3 is following in the footsteps of the PS2 then year 3 and on will only get better in terms of sales and Software.......fanboys fail to realize this tho........to eay to point out the NOW when Sony has always been about Longevity......

Sony has basically 2 options to lower the price and not start losing even more money than they are losing now. Option 1: Drop the price by $50 in early to mid 2009. Option 2: Drop the price by $100 in late 2009

It's a toss up imo but I'm more patient than most and would prefer the $100 price drop in late 2009.

Actually that sounded more in the case of the Wii rather than the PS3

Yeah, PS2 recieved a lot of garbage (just checked a couple of games and found many shovelware on the PS2 library) but still, PS2 took the last war by a lot!!!!

Thats why i got a PS2 instead of a cube or a xbox. Now, i'm keeping my ps2, got a ps3 (but mostly for sequels and maybe one or to new games that get my attention and aren't FPS) and got a Wii for the sequels and new games to come

I hope this is true. I really want a PS3 but with the console almost the same price as my rent I can't really afford to buy one. Roof over my head is more important than gaming. If they lower it to $299 or $ 250 then I'll be to get one... well I still might have to put it on layaway at kmart but the payments would be low enough for me to swing :)

The Ps3 is amazing, my 360 has issues, which is surprising because it hasnt moved in 3 years, over all I like both but my Ps3 feels epic compared to my Ps3! I see the Ps3 being still in use in 2012 but the 360 wont make it til 2011
