That Combustible map pack didn't seem to ignite much passion into Gears of War 2, as the shoe-in for Best Shooter Involving a Chain Saw-infused Rifle Award remains numero quartro on the Xbox Live activity chart for last week. The game was also 4th place the week prior, and 3rd place for two consecutive weeks before that. Far from being a bad position, but it's certainly not dominating the service like its predecessor.
Staying strong at top is Halo 3, followed by the Call of Duty: World at War and CoD4, respectively. The promotional Dash of Destruction managed to take 6th place, and somehow bumped Fallout 3 from 8th to oblivion. Full list after the break.

Hacks are only possible through modded 360's
How many people actually hack online games? Not much because of the chance of getting banned.
I'll take the risk of being hacked vs than to have a.when im not host.

Messed up my last post it should have been:
I'll take the risk of being hacked vs than to have a completely unplayable game when im not host and when I am host it's unfair because my connection is crap and everyone has a disadvantage.

Then that's going to take a very elaborate person to do that and the chances of that happening is slim. Hell I haven't ran into it in Halo 3 yet.

EPIC, are you listening?! I hope someone over there is paying attention to what all these people are saying. Nobody is gonna buy Gears 3 if they lose confidence in your product! Confidence has been lost. Revenue loss is soon to follow. The clock is ticking before people stop even putting Gears 2 in their Xboxes. Fix your damn multiplayer mode! FIX IT!

Also, what's up with having to wait 20 seconds after a match is over?

People saying client-side hit detection will make everything better are just spouting jargon without understanding the situation. The reason CoD and Halo offer superior network performance is because of superior network code. For all of Epic's experience with UT, Gears multiplayer has the crappiest netcode this side of Meteos Wars.

Wow I didn't realize how many bugs/exploits were in this game until I read those blog posts. That is utterly revolting. No wonder the map pack isn't selling well at all. The bottom line why this game isn't seeing much activity on Live is because the MP experience is totally inconsistent. Epic has done a shoddy job of getting things in working order and makes me question whether or not I'll be purchasing their next title in this series.

Saying it's not seeing much activity is an understatement. It may not be number 1 on the charts but being number 4 is hardly not seeing much activity.

Its because when the first Gears came out, there was no COD.
COD4 hit the mark as far as multiplayer goes. Thus why it is still played today, it is THAT fun. Since COD:W@W used the same exact system, its up there too. So with those two games having the exact same amazing multiplayer system, GoW2 is competing in a spot Gears1 never had to. Let alone the matchmaking problems GoW2 has been having.

IMHO I think it's just plain boring playing Gears 2. I mean I haven't been able to win a single game in like two weeks, because of all the issues with the multiplayer, and guess what? Lots of the glitches from the first one are back somehow. really?

Killing people and grubs in GOW2 just is not fun ...And the Story is shoddy...I felt I kind of wasted 10 dollars on renting it...Hopefully though the other 10 dollars I spent on a one month Xbox live card will redeem my money when I rent Left4dead. Love me some Zombies.
I kind of see now why I bought my Ps3...I do not like doing business with the Xbox. Specially that annoying menu it has.

Muahahahaaaaaaa, cliff, cliff, cliff, cliffyyyyyyyybbbbb!!! Seriously what's the name of this game again? Gears of glitches 2 or Gears of rushed out 2. Why is it takes so long to find a multiplayer game? Why can't I choose my fav map? because out of all the maps I only care for 3 of them (Gridlock, Day one and river), so I drop out a lot, and for me to never drop out of a multiplayer match the map would have to be the right map, otherwise I will always drop out, and every time I drop out I fucked it up for somebody else. That happened to me all the time, and when it happened "gears of rushed out 2" get ejected of the Xbox to load gears1 or cod4. What the F**k? Why am I complaining? Epic can’t hear me, they are too BZ working on another 3 maps for $10.

I finally managed to play GOW2 online and I like it a lot. The bugs are fricking horrible but I still can play it and enjoy the game. I mean, I have played 15 hours online in like 1 week.

Why all the Halo 3 hate? last time I checked it wasnt riddled with bugs, DLC that should have came with it, Unfair Glitches or excessive camping -- *cough call of duty *cough
So whats so bad about Halo? its still fun, other wise it wouldnt still be bitch slapping Call of duty and Gears 2, in regards to being the most played on Live.

They've ruined the game... the multiplayer on Gears 1 was actually more fun to play. This time around there are more glitches, more cheaters, and it takes a stupid long time to start up a multiplayer match. The multiplayer is a complete disaster in Gears 2.

I think Joystiq should actually post all the known glitches in this game. Maybe then it'll come off as more than just anecdotal hearsay. Between the .5second to 10 second stun grenades and shield glitching this game is a mess.
I play it, but refuse to buy the DLC until the game is fixed.

Of cource these maps didn't help the games XBL standing.
The game has only been out for a month, we first got a glimpse of the maps a week after the game released. So basically, these maps were finished before the game released. Beyond that, the map pack is only 70 something MBs. Less than half the memory of the two map pack from GOW 1. 3 maps in less than half the space of two? Clearly these maps were originally going to be a part of the game. Clearly these maps are on the disc, in an almost finished state.
Beyond that, one of them is a remake of a GOW PC map, one reuses, repurposes and refurbishes a campaign area. After all of that, these maps cost 800 points. 3 maps for 800 points?
Halo 3 took heat for the 800 point price tag, and its multiplayer and MM isn't nearly as broken. Halo 3 maps have forge, and the DLC maps have new forge features to add value. Finally Bungie had the curtiosy to not charge us for maps, that are on the disc in a almost finished state.
I have honestly told all of my friends if ANYONE buys these maps, im taking them off my friends list. I have no desire to be friends with anyone that condones these shady practices. Nobody cares about the consumer, all we can do is vote with our cash. Thats the limited power we have. Sure, 99% of the time it means nothing. Ignorance pisses on the foundations of our free market. But that 1%, where whats wrong is so clear to everybody, it has power.
Im glad these maps failed. And I hope Gears 2 falls to 5th place soon. If your going to postpone maps from the games launch, release those maps for free, or not at all. Have atleast a shred of decency. Giving us a map pack for free, when 90% of what makes the maps is already on the disc, and the maps were planned to release with the game to begin with, isn't asking for much.

I think a big part of the reason is also the RIDICULOUSLY long wait times to get in a match. Even after the patch came out, it takes seemingly forever to get a fu***ng match started!
It makes the multiplayer completely useless to me, and Gears 1 was by far my favorite multiplayer game of all time.
Gears 1 was the ONLY reason I even kept Live Gold active.
If Gears 2 doesn't get the matchmaking sped up, it'll drop off the list all together. Every other game I play on live, I can get a match started up in no time at all.
Gears 2 has been such a letdown for me...I really, really, loved gears 1. Gears 2 is every bit as good (to me) when it works, but it just flat out doesn't work online.

My problem is that it's NOTHING like Gears 1. Cliffy has said many a time that the multiplayer in Gears wasn't what they intended it to be, however I think it was a pretty brilliant 'accident'.
It riles me that the guys at Epic can be so pigheaded to think they know better than their customers and have tried to change the dynamic of the game so dramatically. In doing so they've just fucked up the game I love.
That and it's glitchy and laggy as hell.

I have a question on how the number of Unique Users are counted. Say I paly Halo 3 one time during the week but I play W@W 5 days that week. Does it still only count it as 1 UU for both games? Or is it 1 for Halo and 5 for W@W?

That's my assumption. My 60 hours per week of L4D counts just as much as someone who plays one round of Gears 2.

I didn't really like L4D that much when I tried it out. I thought the graphics sucked and there were like 5 weapons in the whole game. I just didn't see what the fuss was about and actually thought the game sucked. I would have rather played Gears 2 fucked up multiplayer then a perfect version of L4D. It just wasn't very fun at all. Maybe it's the zombie thing that I don't get.

Left 4 Dead sucks. It's a super floaty shooter with generic controls and a handful of weapons. Everyone says it revolutionizes coop with 4 player action (something Halo 3 did how long ago?), its pathetically short, and its graphics are extremely poor.

Are there inconsistent happingings in gears? Of course, but do they really bother the avgerage games? Maybe. But for me I'm having a fantastic time with this title. Its the change from a one man shotgun army to a tatical team whom cam cooperativly take down the opposing team using communication that I very much welcome! IMO I think its the shotgun whores from gears one whom do 90% of the cry moma bitching. I know it seems like I'm in a small group of people who love this game but there is not any major issues with this game hence it is not a broken game like slot of people make it out to be. So who cares if the smoke gernade knocks over your opponent one time and not the next makes the game unpredictable and always exciting. I'm done ranting time to get back to fable 2.
