It sounds like Hideo Kojima is once more hard at work after his post-Metal Gear Solid 4 vacation. In an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu states that he's directing two new games simultaneously within Kojima Productions. While one game, which is destined to be announced first, is being developed in the traditional Kojima Productions style, his second title is being developed by a newly restructured team within the company and will be focused more towards the Western market.
Kojima wants his studio to, as 1UP puts it, "compete with the best of the best in America and Europe." We say he's been doing this for years now, but if he intends to up his game even further and make even better titles in the future, who are we to complain? As for his two new projects, we can't wait to hear more about them. What's at the top of your personal Kojima wishlist?

hhhmm... not sure if its the iphone one, not sure if his 'directing' that one,
if i had to guess, id say the western one is some FPS game that he(or someone) mentioned before..
and the other one with his original team is going to be Zone Of the Enders!?

The rumor about Kojima going to Infinity Ward to "learn" about FPS games was proven to be wrong. One of the developers at Infinity Ward confirmed that since they at IW are big fans of Kojima, they invited him to have lunch and check out their latest games. We're still not sure if ZOE3 will be one of the 2 games. However, Kojima said that at TGS 2009 he will be announcing his new project and I'm hoping for MGS5.

I hope he doesn't westernize it too much, that's what was so great about all his other games.

Yeah, his games have always been able to be accessible to the western gamers and the japanese at the same time, us lot - the western gamer in general cannot cope with the japanese craziness, it is present in metal gear games but not too much of it, just the right amount.

I hope it is less japanese style. I loved MGS4 but I would love to see something a bit less weird from him.

That's the point I liked less in MGS4: westernization. I hate this ''over the shoulder'' viewpoint. I preferred the aiming style of MGS3. MGS always has been about realism. ''OTS'' is no realism. MGS4 should've kept the L1 to aim and R1 to shoot but with a ''shooting from the shoulder in first person'' instead of this ''over the shoulder'' crap. (Plus, the OTS brought A LOT of noobing in MGO)

That and he never had to stress too much when playing the games he'd worked on..he could just sit back and watch them (with a little gameplay here and there to keep awake).

Ugh, focus on the western market? I cant help but cringe when ever I hear a Japanese company say that they are going to do that. Don't they realise gamers around the world are relying on them to exactly provide us with some alternatives to the monotonous drivel having been shat out in that region since Doom?

I am not a Metal Gear fan so I could careless but the direction towards a Western/Europe could more than likely mean a multi-console developed FPS game. Again though, if its anything in the style of Metal Gear then it won't be on my want list. IF its more in the mainstream FPS style then I might be interested.

One of the games is a watered down version of MGS4 for the iPhone or alternative side story
The other videogame should be a first person shooter
if you have noticed in his post MGS4 interviews he has mentioned that some of the influences for the game came from First Person Shooters and who makes the best FPS that would be Western Studios

I suppose I'm in the minority, but as much as I'd like to see another Metal Gear game, I hope it's an all-new IP instead.

I hope to see a new IP too, Kojima needs time to do something different or else he's going to get completely bored.
There's still plenty of things that can be done with the MGS engine that can be applied to a new game, to even extend it.

Awww... I wouldn't mind another ZOE game :( I actually want one really badly XD. If the jump in quality they made going from the first ZOE to the Second is anything to go buy... then they'd most likely do an Awesome job! ^_^

Y'know, Snatcher has a shop called "Joy Division" (well, the Japanese versions do) and there's a news program in Policenauts called "News Order" as well! ~The more you know

hahah...I saw the shirt and thought, "whoa, I had no idea he was a New Order fan." I think he mentioned it back when he was being interviewed at some point (either in the Art of MGS book or later for MGS2), but I completely forgot.

Something with a bit less waffle would be nice, mgs4 was a cracking looker, played nice but too much bollocks getting in the way of the shooting.

I only have one request, ONE, from Kojima: SNATCHER!!!
And if he can include the original one and SD Snatcher in the package, I'd be in gaming heaven.

Oh... and to add to that, the original Snatcher had scenes which were first person shooting sequences, although they were more in a sort of light gun vein. But the fact is that Snatcher could be done perfectly as a FPS/graphic adventure hybrid. I think it's end up as a sort of spiritual succesor to Deus Ex! :)

If you are going to see a western game from Kojima I hope it is in the same fashion of Gow2 with having a more visceral feeling while at the same time a intricate and Elaborate control system like Metal Gear.
