The best thing you'll play today: Left 4K Dead
Normally we'd save this for Free Game Club, but it's Christmas Eve and we know a lot of you are reading this with family, away from your gaming PC and / or console of choice. If you need an outlet to vent your frustration, check out Left 4K Dead, an entry into the 2009 Java 4k Competition and, as the name suggests, a project no larger than 4KB in size.
Unlike its high-end Valve doppelganger, however, you must face the zombie horde by your lonesome and armed with only one nondescript gun. The Director AI is also a bit loopy here, so think of the zombie and power-up placement as being ... random. And if you end up ignoring your loved ones today, don't say we didn't warn you.
[Thanks, Josh]

ITS A TRAP!
Robotochan @ Dec 24th 2008 1:27PM
Being written in Java gives me hopes that it'll appear on the G1 at some point :) Good game!
syrik zero @ Dec 24th 2008 3:31PM
That would be sweet! I've been playing a lot of mushroom wars. Wish that game had the ability to change the grid size as well as play against other G1s
Obie @ Dec 24th 2008 1:35PM
BILL!

I don't know if this proves how versatile Java is, or just exactly how shallow Left 4 Dead is.
All I know is, I'm going to get flamed and downvoted for saying this. YEEEE HAW!
Obie @ Dec 24th 2008 2:25PM
Why yes, yes you are. ;)
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Dec 24th 2008 2:37PM
Well, L4D is shallow.Luckily it's made by Valve which is great news considering it's in dying need of one of those massive TF2 updates.
syrik zero @ Dec 24th 2008 3:33PM
Down voted! L4D is one of the greatest co-op games I've ever played
Otimus @ Dec 24th 2008 4:04PM
Well, I didn't say it was bad.
Just highly shallow.
Obie @ Dec 24th 2008 4:31PM
I do wonder what is shallow about it, playing the game on expert it takes so much planning and co-operation to do it successfully.
Most other shooters you just aim at the nearest moving object, press the right trigger and let the auto-aim do the rest.
phinn @ Dec 24th 2008 1:56PM
Thats definitely not the best thing I'll play today. This game got older faster than even the real thing. And thats pretty fast
Penguin Warlord @ Dec 24th 2008 4:26PM
I think they meant best pornography free game you'll play today.
RyFar206 @ Dec 24th 2008 3:44PM
What does the link go to? I have a feeling it's either a rickroll, or a meatspin/2g1cup.
Matt @ Dec 24th 2008 9:46PM
Goes to a flash games website
Poisoned Al @ Dec 24th 2008 4:04PM
I have the urge to dig up "Zombies Ate My Neighbors" now.
Haggard @ Dec 24th 2008 4:15PM
Just some crappy placeholder-site style adverbollocks.
MajorHoorah @ Dec 24th 2008 5:12PM
This would be awesome on the iPhone!
Omega2k3 @ Dec 24th 2008 6:15PM
As an iPhone owner and lover of games, I can honestly tell you that it would not.
MajorHoorah @ Dec 24th 2008 8:10PM
Its a joke for all the G1 users
Nick @ Dec 24th 2008 10:23PM
First: Extremely impressed that this fits into 4K. I was reading about all the tips and tricks about how to crunch the code into such a small space; it's not for the faint of heart. Unfortunately it also encourages poor programming practices (e.g. everything thrown into a single class rather than being broken up into different classes corresponding to distinct objects in the game).
Second: the controls felt a bit off to me - I want W to be forward, not up. I wonder why he opted for this control configuration?
BPMOmega [gamertag] @ Dec 25th 2008 12:38AM
Because it's a top-down shooter, not a first-person shooter?
If W was forward instead of up, that would result in tank-like controls (see: Resident Evil).
joeymoto @ Jan 4th 2009 10:05AM
Please not TANK CONTROLS!!!!!!!!
