Tony Hawk's Adrenaline to be 'way more realistic'
And who better to trust on the matter than the pro skater himself, Tony Hawk? In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, the 40-year-old boarder dubbed the next game to feature his virtual likeness as "a real departure" from previous endeavors. "It's a whole new direction for us," said Hawk. "And it's going to be way more realistic and way more interactive. I'm really proud of it."
The "it" refers to Tony Hawk's Adrenaline, which is due for release in Fall 2009. Though details on the Skate competitor remain scarce, we know that it will not be played "with a controller in your hands." This has lead outrageous internet theorists to conclude that Adrenaline will come bundled with -- get this -- some sort of motion-sensing skateboard peripheral. Never.

Sounds cool. I've always been a fan! Skate is really awesome though... Skate 2 is coming just next month! That will be sweet!
Foetoid @ Dec 24th 2008 7:19PM
I would give ANYTHING for a Tony Hawk Downhill Jam 2 on Wii with online play. I love that game, and i've put more hours into that Wii game than any other. I've 100% finished the game with about 6-7 people and i'm determined to 100% the entire game. Its a lot of fun, it looks good, the controls on the Wii are perfect (once you've invested 6 hours getting used to it) and it's the most underrated game on Wii IMO.
Levi @ Dec 24th 2008 7:30PM
Skate 2's coming next month already? I should really start this copy of Skate that I got the other day..
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Dec 24th 2008 7:39PM
"the controls on the Wii are perfect (once you've invested 6 hours getting used to it)"
Sounds real intuitive.
It didn't take me that much time to learn Skate's controls. You're telling me that a game with a two-button control scheme should take that long to learn how to play?
Didn't like the game, not one bit. It's no Excite Truck, that's for sure.
Foetoid @ Dec 25th 2008 3:44AM
The learning curve with Downhill Jam came with the motion controls. Sure the 2 face buttons and trigger were easy to work out, but to get the turning right was downright tough for the first few hours, especially since i've been playing TH games since the first one consistantly. Once i got used to how the tilt worked properly to control, i'll happily say it's the best Tony Hawk game ever, and i've finished them all. It is immense fun, very addictive, but also simpler in that you can't get off the board and manuals were removed. When i first played it i nearly took it back, i gave it a few hours and bam, hooked. The controls are pure perfection and the game is highly underrated.

You make it sound so good! After I finish the surplus of games that recently came out that I have I'll have to get back to that game. Too be honest I also haven't touched my Wii in a good amount of time. I last played it after me and a friend went for sushi, got drunk, came home and wanted to have some simple dumb fun =) I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the Wii, just no games that have been released that I yearn to play. But then I'm the same way with my PS3 as well. I've been on the 360 more than anything. The NXE is awesome, party feature works perfect! I lost my point... I'm tired, it's early and I'm working a 12 hour shift today =(
ice~ @ Dec 24th 2008 5:53PM
Man tony hawk is 40?! Wow, that makes me feel old, and I'm only 17
tmacairjordan87 @ Dec 24th 2008 5:58PM
As Guitar Hero ripped off Rock Band, so shall Tony Hawk rip off Skate. Can't say I didn't see this coming.
Also, that screenshot is proof that graphics do matter. That could be the ugliest video game related thing I've ever seen.
slycooper_rocker [anti-panda death murder squadron force five] @ Dec 24th 2008 6:48PM
Activision: excessively whoring classic games franchises in 2009. :(
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Dec 24th 2008 7:50PM
It looks better on the DS's tiny ass screen. Or at least I think it does; that's a screenie of Tony Hawk's Motion, which I heard sucks ass and as a result did not buy. I did own Sk8land and Downhill Jam for the DS, though, which were both pretty good titles and looked pretty good on the DS.
That's just what happens when you blow up DS screenshots.
Foetoid @ Dec 25th 2008 3:46AM
Spot on Fatass. When you blow up a DS screen it looks like bollocks, but playing the game in motion is not bad at all. Metroid Prime Hunters was a great example of that.
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 24th 2008 6:09PM
Fuck off. We don't need you advertising your shitty site on Joystiq. Whats that? You thought using a tinyurl would hide it? Guess what? It didnt.
Fuck off. These comment sections are for people to have logical, calm debates (a man can dream, cant he?). Not for you to try and drive up hits to your site.
Deck @ Dec 24th 2008 6:16PM
Even though Activision may think so, more prepherials are NOT the answer. I don't have room for any more, plus I don't want anymore. I also enjoying playing skateboarding games (though I haven't owned any Tony Hawk since THPS4 and only have bought Skate recently) with a controller.
It'll probably be priced at 100 for a skateboarding game. I think not. I'll pass.
Moptimus Slime @ Dec 24th 2008 6:18PM
For the PS360 at least. If Activision is smart (and since im guessing Vicarius Visions will be making the Wii/DS versions, they will be) they'll just use the balance board
Haggard @ Dec 24th 2008 7:30PM
They've noticed that peripherals appeal to people about 2 months after it stopped being the case.
Bleu @ Dec 26th 2008 10:02AM
A skate board periphial that would be sweet. I would buy it I hate EA and so I think skate 2 wont be nothing more than a firmware update.
humidfreak @ Dec 24th 2008 6:24PM
Thats good for disabled fans that cant stand on a board
jayeffaar @ Dec 25th 2008 12:12AM
On the other hand, two thumbs up from skateboarding fans that have no hands!
Biff_McFresh @ Dec 26th 2008 12:46PM
Toe thumbs?
ANTCEP @ Dec 24th 2008 6:26PM
why not do something crazy and simple, like thps2.
Haggard @ Dec 24th 2008 8:41PM
lol.. a few friends and I broke that out one night and played it for hours instead of LittleBigPlanet or Rock Band
Foetoid @ Dec 25th 2008 3:49AM
They did that ANTCEP with the severly underrated TH:Downhill Jam (Wii version of course).
Brucie_K @ Dec 24th 2008 6:30PM
I hope there will be cool bonus characters again. Jango Fett and Iron Man were awesome!
slycooper_rocker [anti-panda death murder squadron force five] @ Dec 24th 2008 7:23PM
fett was so fun to use. ahahaha i remember freezing the game cause my combos never ended with JANGO JUMP JET!
Tez @ Dec 24th 2008 6:44PM
Tony Hawk's played out. Both the game series and the man himself.
Nice 900, though.
Wiinterfang @ Dec 24th 2008 7:23PM
Booooooooo.
Tez @ Dec 24th 2008 7:28PM
Smithers, is he booing me?
Foetoid @ Dec 24th 2008 7:16PM
Moptimus FTW.
hoink @ Dec 24th 2008 7:36PM
i pre-ordered a skateboard at gamestop today...its 90 bucks and is compatible with skate 1-2 and tony hawk proving ground....i think its called bigvert if ya wanna look it up
Levi @ Dec 24th 2008 7:34PM
Tony Hawk games have sucked every since 3. They have more in common with Mario games now than skateboarding. Skate is a breath of fresh air. Reminds me of Thrasher Skate n Destroy, great game.
Also, I don't care what platform it's on, those are some chunky graphics :/
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Dec 24th 2008 7:42PM
"Tony Hawk games have sucked every since 3. They have more in common with Mario games now than skateboarding."
Alright, I can agree with the rest of your post, but don't even begin to insinuate that the core Mario games haven't been universally stellar. Or at least good.
I can't tell if you're trying to say that Mario games have sucked since #3 (a claim I hear every now and then from elitists) or what. Just making sure.
Hyams @ Dec 24th 2008 7:44PM
I think he was actually refering to the stupidly high jumps you can do in Tony Hawks games.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Dec 24th 2008 7:46PM
Hey, I'm tired. Can't blame a tired guy for the stupid.
Icarus @ Dec 24th 2008 7:47PM
I actually loved Tony Hawk's Undergroud a lot. It had a decent story for a skateboarding game and tons of new gameplay elements[like running around and walljump]
Levi @ Dec 24th 2008 8:10PM
No, I mean Tony Hawk 1 and 2 were the closest things to skateboarding games in the series that I played. After that, they put so much emphasis on the stupid goals that have nothing to do with skateboarding, that it really killed it for me. Starting with being able to skate on snow in THPS3. The mario comparison was just stating that the game feels more like an objective based platformer, where you just happen to ride a skateboard instead of go through pipes.
A Mario discussion is better saved for a post about Mario. I loved Mario 64, but I was super let down by Galaxy. Never played the GC one.
Foetoid @ Dec 25th 2008 10:10AM
It appauls me to see so many many people who haven't even at all experiance the amazingness that comes from Tony Hawk: Downhill Jam on the Wii. I know Tony Hawk 1 and 2 were pretty close to real skating and probably the best in the series. Thats why Downhill Jam took it back to the old-school roots. No BS manual combos or nothing, just pure downhill adrenaline fueled by massive grinds.
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Dec 24th 2008 7:45PM
Man, fuck realism. Crazy, off the wall trick chains were why I liked the first few Tony Hawk games. I mean, realistic can be good, as was the case with Skate, but I'd really like to see the TH series go back to what they did well in the first place.
Or do what they did with the DS version of Downhill Jam (the Wii version was a definate departure from the standard TH formula and, IMO, suffered as a result).
Foetoid @ Dec 25th 2008 7:15PM
How did it suffer? I've put more time into Downhill Jam on the Wii than any other Wii game, at least 150 hours since launch. The controls are perfect, the soundtrack is awesome and even now, after 2 years, i'm still finding shortcuts i never knew existed.
mr mobius @ Dec 24th 2008 7:49PM
More realistic?
Does that mean your character will spend 2 hours trying to learn to olly, then the next 5 waiting in hospital to see a doctor?
The Fatass of Kickassness @ Dec 24th 2008 7:51PM
That'd still be more fun than recent TH games
Orionsaint @ Dec 24th 2008 9:54PM
...Or, Perhaps a peripheral that detects the motion of your body.
oopogfe @ Dec 24th 2008 11:35PM
hey, maybe that new VAIO is the secret controller. You can ride it like a skateboard since its long and thin
mussbus999 @ Dec 25th 2008 12:58AM
Wow.
So, Tony Hawk games haven't been working for the past 3 games. And then Skate comes in and is amazing so TH has to come in and copy it.
Fuck this game
Foetoid @ Dec 25th 2008 7:16PM
Wow, another person who didnt play Downhill Jam on the Wii which worked perfectly on so many levels.

loves tony hawk downhill jam. my heart didn't show up. html tag thing :(
Will O'Neill @ Feb 6th 2009 1:44PM
You want realistic? How about what it's like to be Tony Hawk if you were a dolphin, and needed a kiss:
http://animalsneedkisses.wordpress.com/2009/02/06/the-only-lonely-dolphin/
Totally gnarly and tubular, dudes!
