I started reading Lovecraft's "Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath" today. It's either brilliant or completely insane. I can't decide yet. Any Lovecraft fans out there?

...Also, I'm not a Christian, don't celebrate Christmas, and my family, whom I do not like and who do not like me at all, are 3,000 km away. I spent Christmas day riding a train around my city drunk out of my mind with a bunch of homeless alcoholics. Am I unique in this experience, or no?

AJ, just a quick question your way. From a non-Christian point of view, do you find it offensive if people wish you a Merry Christmas on December 25th? From my standpoint, it shouldn't bother someone because 12/25 is in point of fact Christmas, and the holiday is an excuse to well-wish family, friends, customers, etc. On the other hand, I don't really know what someone from the other side of things might think about it....

I agree, December 25th is Christmas. It should no more offend than someone saying "Good Morning" or "It is Tuesday".

However, it does genuinely bother me, considering what Christmas is, what it is supposed to represent, the way it is said, and sometimes people get offended if you don't return the greeting, and the fact that I just don't care about someone's stupid personal belief system which incorporates a bizarre need to be happy no matter what and a messiah whose greatest deed was to get killed. It's psychotic.

And every time I hear "Merry Christmas" I can only think of 2,000 years of horror and death and genocide and all the suicides that happen in December and news reports of gun fights over an Xbox in toy store parking lots.

So no, it doesn't offend me. But it bothers me. But a lot of things bother me. And really, it's my problem, and not really grounds to declare that no one should acknowledge the holiday lest we offend someone.

Although I should love Lovecraft's work, being a hard-line horror fan (from the 18th century stuff up to and including modern fiction), I never was able to wrap my head around his writing... All I can say is, you're not alone. And you better pretend to enjoy it when conversing with hard-core Lovecraft fans ;)

Wouldn't it be cool if there was some adventure game made for DS, that would totally be inspired by Lovecraft's work? Prisoner of Ice was a decent one in the 90's.

Just a quick comment, I'm a Muslim and I get reallllyyy annoyed when people say "Happy Holidays".
The sole reason it's the holidays is because of Christmas.

I respect all religions, but when narrow minded extremists give us a bad rep all I can do is hope that some day they realize that religion is supposed to advance with time, cuz this fight with globalization isn't a battle they can possibly win.

It's "Holidays" because Muslims, Atheists, etc. oppose to "Christmas" or "Hanukkah" or even "Kwanzaa" on signs and at retailers. Please take your misguided rant elsewhere.
