PSP Fanboy Game of the Year 2008 nominations

Although PS3 Fanboy is featuring awards for multiple categories this year, PSP Fanboy is having just one award this year: Best PSP Game of 2008. We decided that there weren't enough games on the PSP this year to warrant having multiple categories. We're hopeful that 2009 will look a little bit different, though.

These are our nominations for Best PSP Game of 2008. However, we'd love your input as well. Simply choose the game you want and leave a comment for your favorite game this year.

Winners will be declared on December 29th.

Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII

Patapon, without a doubt. Challenging AND original. You just don't see that often on ANY platform nowadays.

God Of War was great and it is easily the most beautiful game released for the PSP this year, but it still comes in second in my book.

Hot Shots OT2 was an excellent upgrade to the original PSP HS title but it has things that really should've been in the first. Why did I pay so much for a course pack?

FFVII CC had some original gameplay but it wasn't even CLOSE to being difficult.

God of War: Chains of Olympus

I've played none of those, save God of War - which I absolutely hated (honestly, did people only like it because it had tits in it?), and Crisis Core, which was fun, but hardly the BEST GAME EVAR.

*sigh* I abstain from voting. This is just sad.

get patapon. most original game this year.

I've heard it's good, but as I understand it it's a rhythm based game. I just get bored at rhythm based games for some reason. It's all counting to 4 and pressing buttons when prompted to, sort of like a game of Simon, but different.

it's much more than that. trust me.

It is much more than rhythm. I only played the demo and I got addicted. Tactics for the win. I don't know why I havent bought it yet.

pata pata pata pon! god of war was cool but it didn't grip me like patapon. wipeout pulse was cool but not the best. crisis core was beautiful but was lacking. that's about it... *sigh*

oh and super stardust portable and everyday shooter are the best downloads. by far. suikoden wins best ps1 download.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.

The only PSP game I bought this year was Wild Arms XF and I really didn't like it. Am waiting for a price drop on HSG2 though (since as someone else mentioned, basically just a course pack)

Here's hoping for a better 2009.

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

the only game I got out of that list was Gow:coo. It was good, but the replay value was low. I almost got Wipeout Pulse

Having played Patapon, Wipeout Pulse, HSG:OT2, and Space Invaders Extreme, I'd say my vote is:

It was such a lovely retro-style game. It was really challenging as well.

Why? cause it had awesome gameplay, online, kick@$$ Music, nice grahpix, and you got to make your own vechicle. It was only 30 bucks. I still play it.

How long do you play those other games, hmm? god of war about 10 hours, patapon about few days, crisis core is about a week or two.

don't forget photo mode, and the ability to listen to your own music while playing.

also there were enough games to win awards!!!! goty should be god of war, patapon, or crisis core.
best music game should be patapon.
best graphix is definitely god of war,
best puzzle/stragety game is downstream panic.
best figheter is that naruto game (forgot the name). best driving game is wipeout pulse or midnight club.
best multiplayer is wipeout.
best soundtrack should go to god of war.
best story should be crisis core. best action adventure game is the force unleashed. best shooter is sadly space invaders. best downloadble game is everday shooter (super stardust was missing modes!!!).
best rpg is dungeon maker 2 ( yes it was released december and crisis core is an action rpg so i don't know if that counts)
dissapointment of the year should be the force unleashed or secret agent clank.
oh also, i guess best sports game should hot shots golf 2 or fifa 09

See, pspfanboy staff, there was enough games to give awards to even though the psps had less than 100 games this year

Having played every one of these games, I'd have to see my choice revolves around Patapon, Crisis Core and Wipeout Pulse.

Agreed. Expected more out of it though, yet it met my expectations. 8.9/10.

Not enough maps and background music became repetitive. However the bonuses made it worthwhile. Worth an import.

Crisis Core

WipEout pulse. Most deserved, I was addicted to the gameplay. Alot of modes. If only the expansion packs came out on the NA ps store. Was looking forward to it.

Patapon, plain and simple, Patapon.

Crisis Core gets my vote :)

Oh yeah, Crisis Core was garbage. That slot system was utter crap. It ruined the game.

No matter what the end result is, Patapon is my GOTY PSP game.

FF7:CC - loads of fun, great story and beautiful visuals.

Patapon was also good, but quite boring in the longer run. GoW:CoO was amazing, but it's only one-time experience.

Crisis core, the best story, the best music, i loved it

Hm, can't pick God of War or Crisis Core as they're both sitting on my shelf (I'll get to them eventually!)

It's close between wipEout Pulse or Downstream Panic, but I'll go with Pulse for the sheer amount of things to do.

I also loved Secret Agent Clank, but that seems to be hated around these parts.

God of War: Chains of Olympus has to win best game of the year... common, just look at the ratings.... just because Crisis Core has FF7 in its name it doesnt means that its superior...

Crisis Core: FFVII gets my vote! No game was as good all round this year on PSP.

i think crisis core was the best
it was fun addicting and lasts you for a long time god of war is cool but gets boring after awhile it and patapon gets frustrating after an hour so my favorite was crisis core
