Fans of Blue Dragon's Mistwalker / Artoon dream team may have to hold back some bitter tears following the news that AQ Interactive will hold back the release of Cry On. According to 1UP, the action RPG, meant to be the third of Hironobu Sakaguchi's Xbox efforts, has been canceled due to "the current market environment and forecasts for the future." The company added, "We deeply apologize for troubling those who were awaiting its release."
Whether you consider it a cryin' shame or prefer fans to cry in shame, you can expect Sakaguchi and Friends to unveil more titles in the future. Old habits die hard.

Why yes. The game was a very good classic RPG. So sad you couldn't enjoy it. Better luck next time!

It was excellent. The character designs are classic Toriyama, the job system was fun (if derivative of the team's previous projects), and the story was alright.
Not sure what else you want from a JRPG.

I didn't even know this existed so I'm not exactly shedding tears.
But it's not good news to be sure. Considering the market it definitely isn't the greatest of times to release new fresh original games. Especially RPGs.

Unfortunate for the people that were looking forward to this title :(
On the bright side, this raises my hopes for Drakengard 3 :D

Lost Odyssey is better than Persona 3 or 4. There, I said it.

Say what you want about Blue Dragon... Lost Odyssey blew me away. Character customization was deep. Combat actually consisted of more than just: Buff, attack, heal, repeat. The XP cap in every area made the boss fights actually difficult.
It looked stunning as well.I don't mind that LO was slow, I want more of the same from Sakaguchi.
Also, kind of strange so many people critisise LO when FFX is so similar, yet people love that.

Again, Lost Odyssey was anything but mediocre. It played like a classic JRPG, without relying on tired, cliché story elements. It was very original, interesting and moving.
Anyone who thinks Aerith's death scene was sad, will be in tears by the end of LO's first disc. (not exagerating either :P)

A Sakaguchi RPG canceled? They're taking the credit crisis seriously.

I thought LO was as good as FFX. Blue Dragon, on the other hand, was as bad as a game can get before stepping into "shovelware" territory.

I dunno about all these "LO was awesome" comments. I'm on disk 4 and I'm struggling to force myself to finish it. It's the first next-gen jrpg I've played so the graphics made me go "wow" in the beginning, the gameplay was good for a little while, I thought the dreams were enjoyable and unique, but the story just seems so drab. It has definitely failed to pull me in. Now that I'm finally in the "open" part of the game I find myself incredibly bored with it.

In fact, the only reason I went back to it this winter was because NXE drastically reduced loading times.

The story may be a bit bland but the characterization is some of the strongest in all of gaming. I don't know what your problem is but I found almost the entire game perfect for RPGs.

I've played pretty much any and every RPG that's come out in the past decade I would guess? I even purchased and finished Last Remnant. Bought both Persona 3 and Persona 3 FES, finished both, played Persona 4 JP, bought and then played Persona 4 US. RPGs are by far my favorite genre.
And yeah, I would still say Lost Odyssey is a better RPG to me than Persona 4. P4's cast is extremely likable and the story is enjoyable and I really enjoy the simulation parts but LO really captured that feeling of an immense adventure that made me truly love the genre in the first place. It was excellently-acted with unbelievable characterization. The soundtrack only enhanced it further.

Ah too bad. I don't care though. I never got excited because I didn't see videos or screenshots.
I'm looking forward to whatever else they got cooking. I know there will be more since Lost Odyssey sold 200,000+ copies in the US in its first month and made it into the NPD top 10.

Not a JPRG fan, but it is sad to see so many cancellations and closings on Joystiq today. Hopefully we only see the wheat separated from the chaff in these times rather than great games getting the axe.

I for one am glad to hear another shitty JRPG wont be wasting store shelf space. I tried the demo and it was really repetitive an boring, fuck it wasn't even an enjoyable story line.

I love the titular irony of news stories like this.
In other news, Duke Nukem Forever has been delayed again.

My LO story is that I was excited about it at E3 because at the scene where they showed a wizard like character fighting the worm, I immediately thought "Elementalist Class, YAY".
Sadly, that was not to be when I finally bought the game right when it came out, however when I first bought it I couldn't play it for more than 30 minutes because it was a horrible navigation system for those not initiated into that type of rpg (big fan of rpg's myself) and some other issues.
6 months later, I put it in, and BOOM I can't stop playing and go from disc 1 to 4, and do every bonus thing I can find.
Yeah... it was a good game, though they played on that one sad scene a bit too much in my opinion, of course if I had something like that happen to me, I might think about it all the time too.
Good scene, great screen writing for the dreams... EXCELLENT game.
