The gold watch award is given to the franchise that needs to be put into retirement. This year saw another return of Sonic, the 12th Need for Speed title and five Guitar Hero games (across multiple platforms/devices). Enough! We're not saying cancel these franchises outright but taking a breather, sitting back and deciding where to go next could be a good idea. Or in the case of some games, maybe you should let us play through this one before you go ahead and throw us a new title (looking at you Activision) Here are the nominees for this year's Gold Watch Retirement Award.
In my (humble) opinion Destroy All Humans never should have been made, and for the sake of All Humans should be put in retirement... Right now.
I never got the "fun factor" for that game, and I seriously could not believe they made a sequel. The other series on that list could easily be turned around except for maybe the Sonic Franchise, which pretty much exploded into a thousand pieces of shrapnel when they made a TV show about the teenage Sonic.
Guitars should be retired, in general. Seriously, people, it's the 21st century already and you're pretending to be rockstars that your parents listened to when they were stoned in college. Have you no sense of decency? At long last...
I think there's great reasons for all these franchises to end tomorrow. They all are past their time.
In the end, I voted Need for Speed. So many iterations and its only getting worse. With Criterion doing the amazing that they have done with Burnout Paradise, it really can't compete anymore. It REALLY needs to be ended.
