While 2008 certainly brought us new and exciting titles, we did encounter our fair share of disappointments. Surprisingly, some of our biggest disappointments came from titles we actually loved due to issues that drove us mad! Online problems and game ending glitches broke pieces of our favorite titles. Bugs may just be bugs but sometimes they destroy an entire experience, for example the broken online play and subsequent four-month-long wait for a patch kept one of our favorite XBLA titles -- Castle Crashers -- off our XBLA Game of the Year list. That in mind along with other titles we were really hoping would be fantastic or bug free in spots, here are our nominees for Most Disappointing Game or Issue of 2008.
Definitely Mercenaries 2 for me... achievements are completely broken on that game and Pandemic's response to complaints on the forum is to delete the posts and stay silent.
I never had a problem with Castle Crashers online play. I loved Mirror's Edge, and had a bunch of fun in Mercs 2. I don't play VS. Gears normally, but when I tried I had some trouble. I guess that will have to be my pick.
I don't really understand why Mirror's Edge is on this list.
Mirrors Edge just wasn't the game it should of been.. from free running, degrading in to a sub par corridor shooter with dire enemies (bad AI thatdidn't act or respond how they should of)
I voted for the Gears 2 matchmaking, but I think that Xbox 360 console errors should be a perennial option, since I had ANOTHER console die on me this year. We should take off Mirror's Edge and put RRoD or any sort of console errors in its place.
I agree completely. I was quite stunned it wasn't mentioned on here.
However, what should be there as well is Gears 2 *LAG*
Screw matchmaking. I'll take 4 minutes to get into a game if there wasn't enough lag to make me wander around with a chainsaw just praying to get a kill.
What I mean by this is the feeling that now they have the core gamer, they are now off getting the casual without any respect for there current user base. For me it feels like I have been dumped for a younger model! I feel the NXE sums this up perfectly! I know it has a lot of fans and that's cool, it really is, but the fact that we as the PAYING customer have had no say in the matter what so ever is an insult. Being forced to take on these stupid avatards just because its going to appeal to the new target group! All I wanted was the choice, nothing more! But no, I am forced to see this every time I go to 'MY' (note the word MY) xbox. I know lots of people out there like them, again thats totally cool, but all I wanted the choice. Is that too much to ask for?
Also, on top of that, Every time I switch on my Xbox or even exit back to the dashboard I have adverts right in my face! How very disrespectful! Normally when you pay for a service you get the adverts removed not put right up your nose!
There are 3 words in Microsoft's mandate and they are: Money, Money and more Money. and F anyone who complains!
Its all good though, I'm not going tho threaten to go to Sony, I bought a PS3 the day they came out. It just comes down to which device I buy my games for (I buy on average 3 a month) no wonder I haven't singed into XBL for nearly a month. But knowing Microsoft I doubt they even care.
All I wanted was the choice! That's why I don't own just one console.
To me, the avatars are a waste of time hence why I created one but take zero notice of it. It feels like a gimmick that was given little or no long term plan.
As for advertising. Yeah, we pay for it but in reality its bugger all. I pay what £2 per month which is far less than say my love film subscription or any other subscription I can think of.
However, you we probably shouldn't be getting adverts. I've grown to not even notice them now.
AITD wasn't that bad, OK it wasn't great but I saw it to the end and even replayed a few levels. It was nothing compared to the total bug fest that was Merc's 2. How that game got through QA is totally beyond me. Shit, if I handed in coding that bad in work...
Having just started Gears 2 on Co-op I have to say it's a predictable turd. I have not gone multiplayer yet nor done any of the campaign alone but Co-op is glitchy at best. I also thought this was a game you played not watched. It feels like Final Fantasy in a shooter form. I'd like to tell Cliffy B. what a raggety piece of crap it has been so far. I'm hoping it improves but if he thinks he's getting $10 more bucks out of me for the maps he'd better have his crew fix the issues. Rushed at best would be my review and next time I won't trust the reviews so NO gears 3 for me. I haven't been this pissed about a game purchase in some time and I've bought a few losers!
How about X3F's comment system and how that's completely broken. Reply's when and where it wants to, sometimes having to confirm a "returning" member's comments. Not a choice? It should be. lol.
GOW2's matchmaking problems were it's demise. Had it not pissed so many people off in the beginning, it would probably still be on top of the live leaderboards...
