It's insane cuz to this day I still buy PS2 games. MGS TEC is a must own even if you've played the previous MGS's but don't own them. I'd still drop money on a Special Edition MGS4 version like Subsistence.I think even next year PS2 will drop some blood, when I thought it's days were over it never seemed to dry out, last year there was still titles like Scarface & GoW2 =win. This year some essentials collections & Yakuza. Not to mention this exclusive shyt we're talking about.

I kinda miss twisted metal. I wouldn't mind if they make some new ones for the PS3 :)

they are working on a new one. in the last twisted metal on ps2(the one on this list? not sure), there was a hidden message during a cutscene that was coded in numbers, and it was decoded to mean 'twisted metal is coming to psthree.' the makers of the game also confirmed that it the message was decoded correctly

I think the PS2 will still continue to be a player in 2009. All the sports titles are still being released, and console ports (ex. Tomb Raider: Underworld) are still being pursued. Add that to the fact that the PS3 still hasn't experienced a significant price reduction and you have a market that can still be wooed by the PS2.

and add the fact that sony no longer has a widely available ps3 sku on the market that can play ps2 games.

Not to mention that people in the third world still buy PS2s and their games, and can't afford the PS3 just yet

They are all just RPGs or Japanese games, the only truly American thing up there is TMHO, no offense, and not to sound racial/biast but this list seems kinda lopsided if your talking about your general run of the mill low income PS2 casual gamer.

Persona 4!!!!
The PS2 I can assuredly say will go out in style.

I'm just hoping that Atlus will go to the PS3 and that Sony will help them transition and create a successful Persona 5.

nah...Persona5 should still be PS2....
2010 will be the year for the PS2 to properly exit....
I'm saying this so that Atlus can properly prepare Persona6 for PS3...
they should take advantage of the fact that they are the only one/two(NIS) left developing for PS2.....

With my PS3 away for repair over this holiday season i've had to dust off the old PS2 for my gaming fix.

The Ada missions in RE4, GOW2, and Shadow of the Colossus are still incredibly impressive games.
If i knew my PS3 would be away for longer i might pick up Persona 4.

PS2 will probably have the biggest backlog of games I will play when my free time comes around. Plus most of them are on the cheap and there is something for everyone.

The Ps2 was not my first console, but the first one I had ever enjoyed... I got mine when I was around 7 and now at the age of 14, I feel that it was the only console I ever enjoyed (besides the GameBoy). I just wanted to say that even though the Ps3 and Xbox 360 have by now gotten the best games, there will never be a console that could recreate the Ps2.....

While I don't knock the PS2 for all of its achievements; I'm glad to see ps3fanboy finally say that its time for the console to move over and make way for the its older, better, brother. :)

Personally, I think that its a move that is long overdue for Sony - I dont think that it get can succeed by continuing to support three different platforms. Hopefully, by shifting its attention to the PS3 and PSP, things will get better for these systems instead of them seemingly being on life support - suffering from delays and promises that ultimately mean and amount to nothing when they come true.

Well 3 out of the 4 games I pre-ordered this year made the list. Persona 3 FES, Persona 4, and Yakuza 2. Sadly Eternal Poison didn't but well can't win them all.

2008 will be the best of the last years cause I don't see that many more titles they would put out. Its like losing a best friend that you grew up with. Oh well you can always make new friends.

Well, from what I heard (RPGamer had a great interview with NIS recently, I believe) the PS2 -and- PS3 will both have some love from NIS. They've conceded that they will be bringing over Mana Khemia 2 in 2009, they've estimated a March 2009 release for Cross Edge for the PS3, and we've got Ar Tonelico 2 in January... and if you're into it, the Prinny title for the PSP is also due in March, I think.

The small companies will transition to the PS3. They just need our support to be able to transition smoothly.

A new Devil Summoner game just came out in Japan a few months ago. The PS2 still has more Shin Megami goodness to give us next year when Atlus gets around to it.

With Sony announcing over 100 new titles for the Playstation 2 during E3 2008, it is unlikely the console will be abandoned just yet. If Sony sticks to their guns, the console will stay alive and kicking for another two years. Sony's ongoing support for the Playstation 2 seems to be part of a sales strategy, saying to consumers that their four hundred dollar investment in a Playstation 3 is a safe one.

It just doesn't seem possible that this could be the last handful of releases on PS2. The Dreamcast had new releases into 2007 and the hardware was barely supported by Sega for four years. Granted, that was in Japan and by only one or two publishers but they still made it to store shelves.

There's surely a slew of PS2 games coming in 2009 and I can't wait to find the surprise gems, though I expect the excavation process to be arduous.

I knew P3: FES and P4 would be on the list. I think Persona 4 would be a great PS2 swan song, now that we're talking about PS2's life.
I hope Atlus will continue to add to the Persona series.
With that said, it was a great ride, PS2! :)

I got the Metal Gear Solid 4 80GB PS3, which has limited PS2 back compatibility. You'd think that an MGS PS3 would be able to run MGS 1-3, but nope. The first installments in the series are among those that have significant glitches on my model of PS3, at least according to Sony's own compability web page. Even worse, the gun metal gray 40GB MGS PS3, a pricey collector's edition, can't run any PS2 titles at all, and can't run MGS 1-3 at all, even in the glitch-y form that my PS3 can.

All in all, brilliant work, Sony geniuses. Hype MGS to sky-high levels and then prevent us newbies from experiencing the back story.
