DS Daily: No More Guitar Heroes?

I figure it's better to have more games than to let the guitar grip rot in a corner covered in dust.

i don't think that the DS needs a guitar hero. there are a plethora of reasons i think it's a bad choice but activision is selling copies so they must think it a good business decision. (see also: guitar hero key ring.)

the point at hand: sequels. what is guitar hero without it's music?

i think guitar hero (and rock band, by extension) is second only to sports in requiring a yearly refresh, or at least DLC. in this case, DLC isn't an option, so, track packs and sequels are the only way to go.

as long as people want to jam out to new tunes the want for sequels will exist and as long as activision is open, they will churn out sequels and drive their franchises into the ground.

I think the company understands that Guitar Hero is just a fad, and they're milking it for all it's worth before people all agree to hate Guitar Hero in a year's time.

No there shouldn't be multiple releases of GH on DS, for one it could lead to a lack of quality music on each release (remember GH Rock the '80s?). Also, since the DSi is coming to America in '09, I think Activision should be focusing on what they can do with the hardware (no GBA slot, but SD card slot).

I am the firm believer of quality over quantity for gaming.

I get the feeling that this GH release means that activision has not figured out how bring the game to the DSi. Why else would they rush so many releases when they could wait for next xmas to release a GH with downloadable content?

The problem is that they should just market these as "expansion pack or tracks packs" whatever it just looks like they are ubber milkin it more than they should. To me it's not so different than launch new DLC every week considering we can't do that on the DS.

As far as GH on the DS in general, I am yet to get any of them... even I will I guess, but I am too concerned about the DSi copatibility. I just hope the solution doens't screw over everyone that bought all the other DS GHs.

I played the first one, and it was okay. Not on the level of a "real" GH game, but pretty good.
That said, they REALLY need to cool it with the sequels. Annual update? Great. That's just enough time to get new tracks, add and refine features, fix problems from the original, and all that good stuff. With a development cycle that's seemingly under six months, the team working on On Tour's sequels don't really have enough time to do anything except for adding new tracks.
An annual update would be fine, especially since, as some people above noted, the DS doesn't have DLC.

I'd say the coming of the DSi killed any future versions, due to the lack of Slot-2.

GH is an international phenomenon. Until or unless it cools off, they're going to maximize profit any way they can.

It's not a huge mystery why they keep making these. It's profitable, just like all the Petz: Horseshoe Crabz games and the rest of that kid stuff. There's no shortage of kid stuff of Nintendo's consoles.

Personally, if there had never been a Guitar Hero released for any system, it would have been fine with me. These type of rhythm games just bore me to death.

Personally i dont understand the hysteria, its not like the millions of people already owning DS's are going to run out and replace them with a DSi the minute it hits their region - *especially* not the casual players. The DSlite isnt being put out of production because of the DSi, is it? youll still be able to buy them, yes?
