N64 goes portable with Nintendo Sixtyfree Lite-R

This certainly isn't the first time Nintendo's enumerated home console made the jump to the handheld realm -- but it might just be the sleekest portable N64 we've seen to date. SifuF, a disciple of modding guru Ben Heck, recently displayed his terrifying techno-prowess by crafting the Nintendo Sixtyfree Lite-R (catchy, no?), pictured above.

umm i dont know if you guys are seeing clearly but that is clearly from a gamecube controller and not a N64 controller, look at the d-pad, look at the analog stick and look at the C-stick... its clearly from a gamecube controller and not from a N64 controller...

The N64; home of one decent game every six months. It will not be missed (Mario 64 being the exception, of course).

1 good game every six months?
There's 22 from my memory... I didn't realize the system had games being made for it for 11 years.

N64 was trash, no amount of revisionism will change that fact. I should know; the N64 was my only console during that generation, and the primary reason why I didn't pick up a Gamecube.
During the late 90s it was all about RPGS and fighting games, two genres which were sadly lacking on my console of choice. This was especially painful as I'm a fighting games are my passion. So while I went to the Arcade and listened to Saturn owners talking about awesome ports of X-Men vs Street Fighter, and Playstation gamers were off playing the amazing Tekken 3, I had to pretend Fighters Destiny and Killer Instinct were good games.
Mario and Zelda aside (and SSB, as I haven't played that before) that list is freaking terrible. Go play better games.

LOL!
The system was trash because it didn't cater to what you prefer? ...and to clarify... you want RPGs and fighting games. You do have one point and that is that the only game that could possibly be considered a good RPG on N64 was Paper Mario. ...and that's stretching it.
But no fighting games? Again, I'm just going from memory here... but I distinctly remember Killer Instinct, MK Trilogy and MK4, Clay Fighter, Fighter's Destiny, and Nightmare Creatures. There were more than likely others, but I'm just going off the top of my head here. Of course, if you include wrestling games, the two wrestling games most widely accepted as the best ever (to date) are both exclusive to the N64.
I'll be the first to say that the N64's catalog was ridiculously small... but unlike the PSX, it didn't rely on 3rd party developers' shovelware. PSX's library probably outnumbered N64 by a 5:1 ratio, but as far as quality games are concerned, the systems are much, much closer in quantity.
"Go play better games."
Personally, I'd take any of the games I listed previously over any of the shit shovelware fighting games that 3rd party developers put out for PSX. OTOH, FF VII was of that era, and to date, it is my favorite RPG. So, as far as playing better games... I did. I just wasn't so blind that I couldn't see the amazing games on N64 as well.

You say fighting games are your passion, and slam the N64 for its lack of support in this genre, yet have never even PLAYED Super Smash Bros.? The facts you state are true, but you can't complain about the N64 being a failure in this regard if you never even bothered to play its flagship fighting title.

I bring up quality fighting games like X-Men Vs Street Fighter and you start blabbering about Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat? Standards, man: do you have them?

Wow, a whole paragraph of bullshit. Oh yeah, this is Joystiq, I almost forgot. Enjoy your ratios of hyperbole and I'll go back to playing my PS1 Jade Cocoon: the game Pokemon wishes it could be.

I admire these garage warriors busting out system mods..
That being said, you can already bust out N64 game action on the go, in a slimmer package AND with a battery pack.. It's called a PSP + Daedalus

The N64 controller didn't have a C-Stick. That was the Gamecube. The N64 controller has 4 C buttons.
So... No, it doesn't sport all the buttons of a standard N64 controller.
I bet it's nearly impossible to play some N64 games with that C-stick so far away from the A and B buttons.

Nice marksmanship, but my Asus Eee PC runs Project64 just fine and I use it all the time to play Zelda 64. I prefer 5+ hours of battery life in an Eee PC over a modded, portable N64.
