"B-b-b-but I don't live in Japan!" We know, dear reader -- despite the fact that a great deal of the world's population takes up residence in the Land of the Rising Sun, we understand that there are plenty of those who don't. This second group likely just thinks we're taunting them with the information that Super Smash Bros., one of the most requested titles for the Virtual Console, will be landing on the service in Japan sometime in early January.
However, take solace in the fact that this might mean that it'll be hitting North American e-store shelves sometime soon. Let's just hope that our price for the game doesn't mimic Japan's -- 1,200 points (as opposed to the usual 1,000 for an N64 game) is ridiculous, and we absolutely would not pay it. Well, maybe we'd pay it, but we definitely wouldn't feel good about it. Fine -- we'd probably be ecstatic, but we'd totally pout for like, a minute or two. Take that, Nintendo!

Wow, Moptimus — we're just having a discussion here, and you have to jump right into name-calling. That's a shame. Sorry I struck a nerve. Not sure what my owning an iPod Touch has to do with anything. I own a Wii, PS3, 360, DS and PSP as well, along with a PC and Mac. And a Mazda, a box of Wheat Thins and a wooden table and chairs. I guess I'm an office chair fanboy, because I'm sitting in a chair while I type this message. I can live with that. Beats being somebody who gets angry for no reason and can't have a discussion without acting like a rube.

Again, you enjoy buying the same thing multiple times (PC/Mac, 360/PS3)? Congratulations! You deserve the flak you get for making bad financial decisions!
Again, its not a port, its an emulation. Its not an import, so it'll run the price of 1000 points.
And I'm willing to bet that Mazda and wooden table of yours that even World of Goo on WiiWare outsells this. Hell, even MadWorld or Overkill will trounce this game in sales.

I'm pretty sure melee is worth more than 12 dollars.

Who, besides you, is giving me flak? I do very well for myself. None of those purchases put even a dent in my finances, and I've gotten plenty of mileage out of each of them. I'm sorry that you can't afford the same luxuries I can, but don't get mad at me because of it. I didn't make you poor.
And now I'm officially bored of this. As are you, I'm sure -- with Carnival Games Mini-Golf and Game Party 2 begging to be played, who has time to argue with Wheat Thin fanboys like myself?! Go, go go!

Congratulations! In 1 single paragraph, you managed to surpass Spencer Pratt AND Dane Cook on the list of Biggest Douchebags Ever! Thats quite an achievement :D

again, try waiting for your head to get dislodged from your ass before commenting. But I'm sure you were too busy playing FooPets or Disney Fairies Fly! on your iPhone to deal with petty things such as research

Super Smash Bros. was my first N64 game.
I remember my mom getting angry with me for playing it so much. Our electricity bill went up the roof!

At least Nintendo has a good track record of releasing VC games worldwide shortly after initial release in Japan, for example, Mega Man 3 was released worldwide over the spread of two weeks in November. Though the PAL regions has yet to see Mario Golf be released yet, it beats Sony and their lame catalog of PSone Classics outside of Japan (Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Xenogears, Dead Or Alive, Dino Crisis, UmJammer Lammy, Policenauts and Tekken 2 to name but a few).

Hmm why should i get this version when i can get a free, online version?

It's normal for random VC games to be more expensive in Japan, having no explanation whatsoever.

I like the original the best. The sequels seem to be too stage oriented for my tastes. In part one it was like a controlled frenzy, in the sequels it's like "OMG, I got killed by the stage not my opponent". I do own all 3,though. If only they could make this one online compatible...

This is by far the best, and my favorite smash bros.
it is nothing like melee or brawl,. the Physics are different, but they defiinatley arent "worse".
I can beat anyone with jigglypuff, even my friend who used to win local tournaments with pikachu.

I've noticed that there seem to be many users of this forum that can't restrain themselves from putting down others based solely on the fact that they play games from a console made by Nintendo. It doesn't do much good to point out what games are not on a particular platform. It can be a bit frustrating when you like games that are only on certain systems and you don't have the luxury of owning all the systems to play them on. I think this is where the "BBB vs. Moptimus Slime" argument rests. Like it or not, Nintendo has done a fantastic job of marketing the Wii. In my opinion, the Wii appeals to a wider audience than any of the other systems. This is why you get those cheerleader and vet games in the first place - they appeal to a younger demographic. I have been surprised many times by how easy it has been to get non-gamers to play boxing on Wii Sports - "Just move the controller on the left and the right like they are the gloves. You don't have to push any buttons." Sold. Casual gamers need to look no further than many titles on WiiWare and Nintendo Fanboys have Mario and the Virtual Console. Check Nintendowiifanboy.com for their Top 10 Wii games of 2008 for more games that entertained gamers this year.
My wife and I received our Wii as a gift and have enjoyed every minute of it. The Virtual Console has given us the chance to play games we have come to know and love over the last 20+ years. There were so many titles that I enjoyed in my youth that I can now share with friends and family that never got to experience the games firsthand.
I let my dad was borrow my N64 a few years back and someone broke into his place and stole it along with every game I owned. That sucked but I moved on. I still miss being able to play some of my favorite multiplayer N64 titles. So one commonly overlooked thing the VC allows me to do is replace the games I used to own that got swiped. One favorite of mine is Super Smash Bros. It may not have many of the improved features of its predecessors but it is still a great game that brings back many memories. I'll definitely be downloading this when it becomes available.
