Yea, it's fun but IMO R2 is much better, but that's because Insomniac NAILED the Co-op completely. Other than that I think the guys at PS3Fanboy made some great choices for the awards, good job guys!

I didn't agree on everything in there. I personally think GT5: Prologue has great graphics, but I couldn't decide between MGS4 and GT5p.
I do not agree that Home is the biggest disappointment.

But anyways 2008 was awesome.
I got my PS3 on the 4th of January.
- MGS4
- LBP
- R2
- Home
- Socom Confrontation (although it had a bad start, now it is just great)
- GTA IV
- GT5: Prologue
- Burnout Paradise

Dead Space over R2? Really? Both were great, but there's only one I'm still playing.

I agree with all except LBP over R2 in multi, but I guess it had to win something..
There should have been a "Most Creative/New" award

What? Only 5 out 19 awards for MGS4? And I thought this was KojimaFanboy.com - oops I mean PS3Fanboy.com.
I'm sure I will get flamed - but not everyone loves or even cares about this game as much as the folks on this blog.

@ Bagels
Yeah. I think LBP should have been GOTY.

I think it's comparing MGS4 and LBP for GOTY is really difficult, because MGS has fostered die-hard fans (me included). And MGS fanboys will always want as much recognition for the game as it can get... because we just love Snake that much.
But LBP without a real story, a deeply written history, and characters to get attached to, makes it hard to get these kinda fans =P.
So while they're both amazing games and probably equally fun, MGS4 is probably best chosen for the cake.

Honestly Dead Space for best shooter? I don't think R2 is amazing by any stretch.. good.. not great.. but Dead Space is at best ok. Especially after the first play through. The entire game's "horror" is all shock based.. and that's a damn easy thing to do.
The shooting mechanics and the game was very polished but it was repetitive and featured a really disappointing storyline. Honestly for pushing out a comic, movie, etc.. the fact that the storyline predictable from the very beginning is a bit lame.. I suppose the one thing regarding Nicole cool but that was only a sub plot.
I guess that Fallout might be an RPG but it think it could have been given best shooter... other then that I pretty much agree 100%.

I don't agree with the multiplayer one at all. Every time I've tried to join someone who isn't on my friends list in a LBP game, the group is past the gate, and it expects me to just sit and watch. Am I doing something wrong?
Anyway, R2 all the way for multi.

that because you are entering the game to late and the level has a gate that when pass no one else can join, until the end or if the level is restarted..
plur R2 with no co-op for the single player campaign = FAIL
i agree with you on Home

Not only that, but Home isn't even a game. Haze is an easy winner in that category and was the reader's choice to boot.

Yeah, after joining about 15 games in a row where they were past the gate, I quit playing anonymous LBP multiplayer altogether. I can't think of any one reason why the game does not allow you to join at the next checkpoint. I figured that was the reasoning behind the insane amount of checkpoints while playing the single player game, so players could join in at nearly any point. It'd sure be a lot more fun that way.
Sorry, just haven't been real pleased with that game yet, especially considering the sea of glowing reviews.

but...home has been released to everyone. i know its still a beta, but its not as if they're going to release another full home. just patches and upgrades. they're going to work on this, and build on it. and really, the thing is shit, they havent given us half the thing that were promised to be here, AT THIS TIME, even though it IS still a beta

I don't get it, is MGS4 really THAT good? It got 5 out of the 19 awards, it got PS3 game of the year, and almost everyone who visits the site likes it. I played the demo and honestly it wasn't that good. The graphics were nice, but the gameplay was boring. R2 and LBP were way more fun. And before you come and low rank me, just remember, to each his own.
I did love the MGO demo though, that was actually fun :)

I'm so happy with the choices! PS3 Fanboy got it right! Can you believe Gametrailers gave best graphics to Gears2? And best story to GTA4? G-T-A-FOUR?!?!?

MGS4 deserved it's awards IMO. It's marks the end of a whole era of gamimg that I grew up with. There is no other video game character, and I literally mean not a single character more human, likeable, real or emotionally depth than Solid Snake. There is not one character that comes close to the depth of Snake. If somebody could name one I'd like to know cuz I have racked my brain lol
Also, I feel way more connected to solid snake than any movie or book has made me feel because, I'm controlling him. The microwave tunnel got me more than any other medium because it was all in my hands.
MGS is extremely ahead of it's time and I think the industry hasn't even caught up with it yet. The only choice for GOTY imo.

Motorstorm Pacific Rift is the best racer, Racedriver GRID for an easy second place.
I've never met anyone above the age of 15 and weighting in at less than 90 kgs that like Burnout and NFS games. They can drench it in chocolate and threw in a few free hookers for all i care: still a dull experience. :p
So: Screw this, I'm going home!

woot! you guys quoted me on haze... that game was such a disappointment.
honestly, home is exactly what I was expecting - nothing fabulous, but it has some potential. i really want to see the warhawk space they talked about with the tactics planning room...

Oh wait, I got something... I agree with you about home. I was a late to the game closed beta tester. Home's ONLY defining feature is the ability to launch games and opening the beta to shut everyone up before that feature up was kinda setting themselves up, but if you're sony I would imagine often being caught up in a catch 22. I also agree it should NOT be listed as biggest disappointment (no matter how disappointing) due to the fact that a) its beta and b) its NOT a game...

Guys, serious props for the Valkyria Chronicles love. That game deserves so much more respect than the raw retails numbers would suggest. SEGA finally pulled a magic rabbit from their hat, and were rewarded with apathetic sales.
After finding the game hidden and buried on the bottom shelf of my local retailer - new, on launch day - I got the feeling this would be a game people looked back on as one of those "hidden masterpieces" of the PS3 generation. Having played it for 80-some-hours, I'm positive of it.
