Today on Amazon: Call of Duty: World at War 360, PS3 for $35
Still holding onto Call of Duty 4 as your war-time shooter of choice? Amazon's video game deal of the day might change your opinion. The online retailer is offering World at War for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 for $35 today, almost half off the usual price and a lot cheaper than last year's Modern Warfare, which is still sporting a $60 price tag on the site. Sorry, Wii and PC owners, your versions of the game still cost $50 and $47, respectively. The deal lasts until 3:00AM ET tonight or until supply runs out.

Tempting. I'll probably end up replaying Fable 2 while holding out for a cheaper LBP or Saint's Row 2 though.

jay1 @ Dec 29th 2008 2:25PM
Same price at Best Buy. Pick my copy up Saturday. I thought I was going to have to price match but it was $34.99.
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Dec 29th 2008 11:05AM
wow, that's pretty significant. that beats anything on ebay hands down, which is where i usually buy. if i buy.

You know, I thought I had enough of WW2 games until I played Hell's Hwy this weekend, and let me say - shooting Nazis is still fun! That being said, the game's control system is a bit clumsy and annoying. So, I might have to jump back into the Pacific as well with this price.
Al2x @ Dec 29th 2008 11:07AM
Thought I'd let you guys know W@W is $40 on each platform at Target. Bestbuy had World at War last week for $35 on the 360 only.

I picked up a copy at Best Buy on Friday expecting to pay $60, but it ended up being $35. Except on Amazon there's no risk of locking your keys in your car... That part kind of sucked.
Obie @ Dec 29th 2008 11:25AM
Gah! I chose one hell of a week to be broke!
n1noob @ Dec 29th 2008 11:37AM
The PS3 deal isn't there anymore...? It's listed on the deal of the day page but there is no option to buy it from Amazon. Weird. Kind of reminds me of a few weeks ago when Joystiq got my hopes up and told me that LBP was going to be on sale...
JD @ Dec 29th 2008 11:47AM
I picked this up at Best Buy this weekend for $35. I played for about 2 hours... then traded it at Gamestop for the price I bought it and picked up COD4. They bought it for about $33 plus gave me $9 off COD4. I thought it was fun... but I'm kinda sick of the WWII era. Been playing COD4 for the FIRST TIME EVER and really like it. The only dilema... everyone on my friends list is on COD WAW. Anyone else have a preference?
superklye @ Dec 29th 2008 1:51PM
I picked up W@W last week from BB for $35 and I put off playing it until Friday because I was so apprehensive of going back to WW2. Especially after BiA:HH...that game left me feeling very "meh" about the genre and glad that the world at large had moved on.
But then I finally put in W@W and I was pissed I waited so long. It's good. It's DAMN good.
Level 4 or 5 (the first one as the Russian where you have to snipe that German sniper across the courtyard in the other building) is really starting to piss me off on "Hardened" because I literally die in less than 2 seconds after the checkpoint reloads.
But online is fantastic. I was a CoD4 junkie and this feels exactly like it, but somehow a bit better. I'm finding I have a better K/D ratio and I'm just all-around better with W@W than I was in 4. And I've gotten so used to the iron sights on all the weapons that putting the aperture on them actually made me take a dive in K/D, heh.
Plus, I think the maps are way, WAY better than 4's maps which I got sick to death of. But now I'm getting kinda nostalgic for 4 so I might see if I can find it for $30 somewhere just to have it again because it IS a good game.
JD @ Dec 29th 2008 2:16PM
Aaawww man!!! Now I wish I kept it for that price. From what I played it was solid. I'm late to the party I guess. I've been a Halo 3 freak from the start... but lately it's nothing but unbalanced ranking. Still love the game.. but I'm looking for something new. I haven't played COD4 online yet. I've heard nothing but good things. I suppose everyone has played through 2008 and have moved onto WAW. It probably would have been smarter for me to stay with WAW as everyone is just getting into it this year.. but maybe I'll just have to pick up both. They both have gotten rave reviews from everyone.
CB @ Dec 29th 2008 4:32PM
That tends to happen when you try a game for only 2 hours.
JD @ Dec 29th 2008 5:10PM
Umm... thanks for the imput CB. I don't have TONS of time for MP games. I can only wrap my mind around one game at a time and as researching these 2 titles proved a good number liked COD4.. that's the one I went with. Maybe I'll pick up WAW again down the line.
green11420 @ Dec 29th 2008 11:50AM
Thanks for the tip, I got it on 360, PS3 version was unavailable. $35 + free shipping!
kavendano14 @ Dec 29th 2008 12:04PM
Best Buy's been having this offer since last week
technofranki @ Dec 29th 2008 12:42PM
Good to see that Amazon have same deal for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 version of the game.

hmmm @ Dec 29th 2008 1:50PM
You guys have a deal with amazon to draw customers there with rumors of fake deals??? I just got off the phone with amazon customer support they dont even have COD:WAW for the 360 it is only available through there resellers......Perhaps it would be a good idea to do a little research before you go putting up this rubbish.
http://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-World-War-Xbox-360/dp/B001AWIP68/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1230576079&sr=8-1
$58.99 is what its listed for at amazon only if you buy it from J7R music and computer world Amazon itself doesnt even carry the game. Same deal on PS3 Version Amazon also does not carry this direct from them you would have to order it from hubba games so please JOYSTIQ do a little research first.
Duke @ Dec 29th 2008 1:59PM
When this story first posted I went to the link to find the game right there for sale for the advertised sale price. So I don't know what to tell you about Amazon's comments. I would guess that they sold out and now only resellers have it.
Why would they not have carried this game in the first place when they carry the others? That doesn't make sense.
I think you are incorrect to jump on Joystiq for this one.
hmmm @ Dec 29th 2008 2:02PM
As soon as i noticed it was only available from resellers I called amazon...The guy on the phone told me they dont carry it and if I wanted it I must order from one of the resellers. Im just reporting what I was told from amazon...Seems like a bait and switch to me
GLC @ Dec 29th 2008 2:23PM
It was Amazon's "deal of the day." Quantities were limited, apparently limited enough that they were sold out by the time you attempted to purchase. Joystiq isn't in cahoots with Amazon in any sort of grand bait-and-switch scheme to cheat you out of your hard earned money.
As far as what their CSR said on the phone, one can only assume that when you ask if the item is in stock, he checks, and sees it is not. He then lists the marketplace seller that is IS available from. I don't know why he chose to word it that they "do not carry it", or why you would believe that. Obviously Amazon is going to carry a new, bestselling Xbox game. It may be out of stock, but it will be available again.
I can vouch for the accuracy of this article considering I ordered my (Xbox 360) copy just over two hours ago.
Kiros @ Dec 29th 2008 2:08PM
I picked it up also at Best Buy for $35 bucks, that would be the most I'd pay for a CoD:4 mod.
technofranki @ Dec 29th 2008 2:25PM
To hmmm, the PS3 version sold out first and the Xbox 360 version is also sold out. Some Amazon deals sell out quite fast, and I have missed some sales because of that.
hmmm @ Dec 29th 2008 2:34PM
Not out to flame or nothing just simply telling you what I was told after searching the website and finally contacting customer service I was discouraged to find that they do not carry it. I even tol dthe guy I didnt want a reseller I preferred to buy from Amazon Directly and from what I understood from Him it is not something that they carry and was unable to tell me when I might be able to order it directly from them. I was just simply trying to prevent anyone else from wasting there time. If the deal is gone perhaps an update on the story is in order?
beans @ Dec 29th 2008 2:35PM
this game is only worth it for the zombie level...there I said it. It blows asshole otherwise...on veteran, the nazi and jap's (no offense) pistols spit out grenades.
uranutan3 @ Dec 29th 2008 4:24PM
I don't think it really works to use a racial slur but then call "no offense" to make it better, especially since you're acknowledging that it is offensive.
Kiros @ Dec 29th 2008 5:24PM
On the subject of the "slur" "Japs" never really understood it since it's just short for Japanese.
Tom @ Dec 29th 2008 5:56PM
I'm glad this title reduce its price, that way, many more can play this lesser fun game. it is just decent, which is why it never stood a chance for goty(game of the year) position.
theres a pattern, cod 2 has goty edition, 3 does not, 4 has goty edition, waw does not. why is it that 3 and waw doesnt have goty, well they are both developed by treyarch alone. I first notice treyarch horrible character design. both 2 and 4 are developed by infinity ward (though treyarch was involve with 2 but treyarch did not taint that title ), and both infinity ward title have goty editions.
to be fair, with gta4 sale figure, cod4 most likely wont get named goty if it was release the same year.
Charlie_Six @ Dec 29th 2008 7:18PM
I like COD5's multiplayer maps better than COD4's. There's more wide open areas, letting you use rifles a lot. COD4 had so few opportunities to really shine with long range weapons, I thought.
DriveBy @ Dec 29th 2008 9:51PM
I was lucky enough to get in before they sold out. According to the email I just got, my PS3 copy will be here Wednesday.
I wasn't going to buy it at $60, but I couldn't pass up $35. I also wasn't going to buy it for PS3, but my 360 RRODed yesterday. Oh well, need something to pass the time till I get the new Box.
Slappy san @ Dec 30th 2008 2:19PM
I guess I lucked out by missing this post yesterday. I would have probably bought it even though I should be saving my pennies and I turned in 4 for a $30 loss.
