If those were bold predictions, then I'm the president of the United States.

In fact, here are my bold 2009 Predictions (ahead of schedule):
1) The PS3 will continue to sell.
2) The PS3 will get at least 20 new games.
3) The PS3 will experience a price drop.
4) The PS3 will go through several firmware updates.

I'm really risking my reputation with these predictions.

It'll prolly be summer before that happens.......damn shame tho.......I mean I know you all watch SOME of the same things we do, but I suppose each territory has different laws and things have to be set up differently.......

but one would think that they would have negotiated at LEAST Sony's studios for a Canadian store by now.....

You can probably thank Canada's media magnate there for controlling everything. Sony must either have trouble dealing with them or they don't like the terms put forth.

I can't remember off the top of my head which organization (or company) is in charge of this but it covers the entire country. You have to go through them to provide media like CD's, DVD's, etc. including online distribution.

2. The PS3 will have a price drop.
3. Sony will make a profit or break even
4. Sony will introduce a Wii like controller
5. The PS3 will still be trailing the 360 but not by much
6. GOW3 will become the biggest selling title on the PS3
7. Kingdom Hearts 3 is announced but also for the 360

It sort of stinks that the one prediction you were wrong about was the one that hurt Sony the most. Sony has a great product, but they need to get the price down to around $299 or less. They have the library to compete with Microsoft and each year the system has gotten leaps and bounds better.

Instead of adding games and larger hard drives, Sony needs to think about offering a "budget bundle". I know slashing the price isn't as easy as it sounds, but Sony needs to get the hardware into more people's hands. I would love to see them get to the $300 price point early next year and if possible to $250 by next Christmas.

They have another rock solid year of titles lined-up and 2009 really needs to be Sony year. The PS3 is an amazing machine and I truly hope that it gets the consumer love it deserves...

heres to hoping killzone 2 is everything resistance 2 wasnt. r2 must have been one of the biggest disappointments of the year (gaming wise) for me. LBP was great, the movie download service is good, but they REALLY need netflix or blockbuster streaming. I am really jealous of 360 owners mostly because of this.

Finally! I'm yet to find someone who shares my dissapointment in R2. I avoided it till after Xmas, voucher to spend, nothing out that i haven't already got, foolishly picked up R2.

Took it back 2 days later.

If i wanted to jump around emptying millions of imaginary rounds from a flat, unrealistic, alien gun and hitting people with round after round till they finally die i would play, well i just bloody wouldn't!

Who would? The game is just as poor as R1, and I spent the whole time trying to make it grow on me, thinking screw this i'm putting COD W@W back on.

It's not emmersive enough, nothing feels real enough, weapons feel flat, wierd, and just crappy, it looks pretty but plays like shit.

you know what the joke about the 360 being only $199 is right, you have to buy a harddrive a 60gb is $100 and xboxlive is $50 per account so if you want multiple accounts expect that hefty price for a service that is shitier than psn now and you pay for it, if you want a wifi adapter thats another $100, so we are up to $199 + $100 + $50 + $100 = $450, huh i thought the ps3 was more expensive, then if HDDVD was still going it would be another $200,

Sure I will get a in a game where the hosts connection is crap, but that could be for any reason, most likely ISP related and not PSN related.

Here's my predictions:
> Sony will continue to struggle and disappoint their user base by never getting (it) quite right. (it, meaning whatever they try to do.)
> Sony will never be able to shake the media's poor, underachieving, disappointing, step child label. It's like Cinderella. No matter what a great job she did scrubbing those floors, she was always shunned by everyone. The media will never show the PS3 for how great a system it has become.

- I am a huge Sony PS3 fanboy, and I really hope I am so wrong on this statement. The problem is, we all know I'm probably not.
- If Sony doesn't get it right in 2009, then you might as well hang it up. They will never be able to achieve the top spot. There are only so many times we can hear, "Next year will be the year!"
- We do have the best system by far, but we will have to hear the world tell us about our third place entertainment system.

Ok, well i'm from the UK and i've been browsing gamestop and other websites.

As you can see i'm trying to use officially licensed products.

PS3
80GB Console - $400
Official PS3 Headset - $50
PS3 HDMI Cable and USB Pack - $70
Total Cost = $520

Xbox 360
60GB Pro Console - $300
Official 2M HDMI Cable - $50
Play & Charge Kit - $18
Xbox Live 2 Year - $50
Total Cost - $418

Even if you add the Wifi adapter for the xbox 360 , the bundle still comes out cheaper! But if you really want to use Wi-Fi for gaming, well, then you're not really a gamer.

Again, as you can see, the Xbox is easily the cheapest out of the two and before you say that you'd rather pay the extra $102 to get the blu-ray player, well then i'd rather spend that money on the superior Xbox Live subscription as i see now need to get a Blu-Ray player yet since it hasn't taken off due to Sony's stupidity. How many products must you mess up before you learn a lesson? I mean ground breaking Sony products always have some sort of condition Blu-Ray player, yup a slighter clearly picture than an upscaled DVD, but here's the catch, you have to buy stupidly expensive discs! Minidisc is another prime example, ok well lets make an amazing new way of listening to music but we won't use the general mp3 format, we'll use our own A-Track format, that'll win over consumers right?

God damnit Sony, how could you have disappointed me so much! Alright so i do admit, the Blu-Ray and Wi-Fi are features we don't have, but we have Parties, Netflix, Windows Media Extender and a hell of a lot more superior exclusives.

Again, Sony have failed and they did not choose to capitalise on their massive share of the market that they previously had by forcing technology that really isn't needed or wanted in their product.

That, was my two pennies.

The PS3 exclusives that are system sellers for me, and yes, I play both systems, is the following.
Resistance 2
Little Big Planet
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Pain (PSN download)
Super Stardust (PSN download)
Wipeout HD (PSN download)
Pixel Junk Monsters (PSN download)
Metal Gear Solid IV (single and online)
Valkyria Chronicles
Gran Turismo: Prologue
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Heavenly Sword (Amazing gameplay and graphics)
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction (Beautiful)
Motorstorm
Resistance: Fall of Man

Note: I did not mention all the games that are exclusive, just the ones I think are at the top. My noteable mentions are the PSN downloads The Last Guy, Pixel Junk Eden, and Bowling. The games I also love, but recognize they are not system sellers are Lair, which is glitchy, but still a fun epic game, Ridge Racer 7, Virtua Fighter 5, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Unreal Tournament III (listed because it is fun using the keyboard and mouse support on PS3). I am leaving off Sony’s exclusive basketball games, just not a fan, and the highly disappointing Haze. Also, not a fan of the new Socom game, but those who are really like it. I don’t just drink the Kool-Aid. I have to really like the games to plop down all that money.

Upcoming exclusive system sellers that I know about:
Killzone 2 (looks incredible)
God of War III (need I say more?)
Uncharted 2 (wow!)
Infamous (hope it’s worth it.)
Quantum Theory
Gran Turismo (I hope)

By the way, if you are running a PS3 with HDMI on a 720 to 1080i and not telling a difference between DVD, then, I can’t help you. I don’t know about your Wi-fi, but mine runs like a dream with 0 lag. Only people who can’t get it running right or can’t afford it say what you said about Wi-fi.

Ok you are wrong with your price comparison.

PS3
80GB Console - $400
Official PS3 Headset - $20 SOCOM on PSN is $40, In Stores with Headset it is $60. So if you buy the game you get the Headset for $20.
PS3 HDMI Cable and USB Pack - = (no hdmi cable is better than the other.)
Total Cost = $420

Xbox 360
60GB Pro Console - $300
Official 2M HDMI Cable - = (above)
Play & Charge Kit - $18
Xbox Live 2 Year - $100
Total Cost - $418

Thats only $2 cheaper.
And many people who buy a 360 also get intercoolers with them in fear of the RROD.
That is another $15. Total - $433
If you want wifi $100. Total - $533
If you have a brother who wants a seperate XBL account $50 per year. Total - $583 2 years - $633.
Woh!! I didn't see that coming! The 360 is now more than the 60gb launch PS3!

You can take off the HDMI for the 360 due to the fact it doesnt have true 1080p resolution. Nor does it have 7.1 sound capabilities. You can think the 360 is great but when its all said and done, its a dead end system. Once its been used, just throw it away and get the next xbox with a Blu-ray drive built in.

iPod uses special format for its music yet those sell like hot cakes.

The PS3 is only beginning. When Microsoft and Nintendo have to make 2 more consoles, Ps3 will still be out and competing with them. I did get the cheaper system, i wont have to buy a new console next year like you 360 owners will.

problem i have with your wi-fi statement is that not everyone can wire up a 360 in their house so its stupid to say that "your not a gamer if you use wi-fi" and that SHOULD be factored into the prices on that list since most people do have that problem. then theres the batteries that youll need to use and keep replacing for those 360 controllers. yeah another subscription in itself.and missing bluetooth support and missing BluRay player as well.

In terms of quality, there is a huge difference between an upscaled dvd and a 1080p video. I have bad eyesight and i can even see that. If your saying that you bought an HDTV and dont want to utilize its HD capabilities for movies then i dont know what to tell you.

so yea

xbox 360 60gb bundle pro $299.99
xbox live service $49.99 a year
NETWORK ADAPTER $99.99
HDMI cables $49.99
Play and charge Kit = $19.99/batteries = god knows...

Total Cost for system with 1 year online service only and no Wi-Fi after all your not a gamer if you need them= $399.99 and additional $49.99 each year and batteries each time they die on your controller.

With Wi-fi adapter and battery charger(but you lose hardcore status... too bad)= $519.99 and an additional $49.99 for every other year you use it.

PS3
80GB Console - $399.99
PS3 HDMI Cable - $49.99
PS3 headset = $49.99/PS2 headset(yes this works on the ps3) = $19.99
Total cost for system and lifetime online service= 449.99
Full Experience =$469.99->$499.99

hey you want to factor pointless things in then so will I
so were talking $50 bucks difference for barebone game system with online experience. not that big considering that i wont be paying $50 a year don't need a battery charger and play my HD movies. And plz with the amazing service, all i see is more content that you STILL have to pay for on top of the subscription and a different menu structure. The games lag and cut off the same exact way as the PSN does.

Who the hell pays $70 for HDMI cables? Hahaha.

Even then, what's the USB cable crap factored in for? I have a million mini-usb cables around the house from old mp3 players, cameras, card readers, etc. -- no need for any extra.

You might want to take into consideration the fact that some of us already have bluetooth headsets for our cell phones, and that we can use these on the PS3. No need for a separate purchase; Sony did a good job with peripherals . . . pretty much anything works. Hell, any old USB headset works too. Can't say that about Microsoft, pretty much screwing you over with everything being proprietary and all.

Ok lets get started:

1. I have the fastest available connection in the U.K, 20mb.

2. How about you do your research into WiFi before you claim it's the dogs bollocks, WiFi uses a stupid unlicensed 2.4GHz which is often used by Bluetooth devices, Microwaves, Cordless phones and quite a few more and these all lead to the services being provided by your WiFi to degrade!

3. I used brand names in order to show what the company was offering themselves, NOT what cheaper alternatives there were. But fine, if you cut the cost of the PS3 cable then you HAVE to cut the cost from the Xbox 360 HDMI cable if you're going to use a cheaper alternative.

4. I am pretty sure that when I turn on my Xbox and my Full HDTV shows 1080p Input whenever i turn my Elite on shows that it is Full HD. Even the system settings show the it is at the 1920 x 1080 Progressive Scan.

@ Brandon - Ok why are you paying for your brother? You have just added that on to make the cost even more. Plus, there's no need for intercoolers anymore considering there are still some launch models out there dying and maybe the odd Falcon, but now consumers don't need to be wary of an RROD console because of the Jaspers.

@ Vask - Sure you get a free service, but we have our own dedicated Microsoft Serves unlike PSN which happens to use the publishers servers which happen to have varying degrees of reliability. I mean, the whole party system on Xbox Live is worth the money (if you have friends) It just all adds up to the better experience you get on Xbox Live. Why have you added the cost of batteries to the equation when the Xbox 360 controller only comes with one control which i supplied with a play and charge kit. If that's the case then lets add running costs of the machines because you certainly don't want to bring out power usage do you?

@deanie

Well... Most of my friends own PS3 (go figure) so my better EXPERIENCE is on my PS3. Experience is point of view, do not bring it up.

-You may get dedicated servers from MS.. but why were they down for 2 full weeks, and the PSN has been down for maybe one full day?
-the power difference between the PS3 and Xbox is very small, and not notable in a price comparison.
SOURCE=http://mail.google.com/mail/?hl=en&tab=wm
-Here is a price comparison...
PS3 system = $400
"Official" headset = $50
PS3 HDMI Cable and USB Pack = $70
TOTAL = $520

Xbox Pro = $300
2yrs of gold = $100
"official" wireless adapter = $100
Official 2M HDMI Cable = $50
Play & Charge Kit = $18
TOTAL = $518
(batteries SHOULD be included, since they are an expense that the PS3 does not have, but I will not as it makes you a little more moody)
I know you think that only "non gamers" use wireless... But I am willing to bet 79+% of people use wireless on their consoles. It MUST be included.
I also agree with other comments that say if you do not get cheaper cables off of the internet, you are stupid. My HDMI cable was free from Direct TV.

... $2 difference... (unless you want 3yrs of Gold) But for the $2 difference, I get a Blu-Ray player, media device, and more... So if you want a HD movie player, you will have to shell out another $200 (cheapest now?)

Have fun.

PS3fanboy, your price drop prediction actually turns out to be correct, because before 2009 hit the price of the ps3 had dropped here in the uk which is pretty awesome.

Deany:
If you are in the UK why quote in dollars ?

Heres a price comparison.. Notice I have even added a freaking 320 gig drive to the ps3 and notice the price difference..

Right fair comparison time:

The PS3 eye, which comes with a mic and so acts as both camera and microphone:

www.game.co.uk/PS3/Hardware/Accessory/~r333360/Playstation-Eye-Camera/ £24.99
Unfortunately play.com has none in stock, hence why I have used game.co.uk

www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/3431813/Joytech-Fusion-HDMI-Cable/Product.html £11.99 hdmi cable. but since you want official gear:

www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/3308578/Official-Sony-HDMI-Cable-For-PS3/Product.html £17.99 Free Delivery

Just to make things fair, lets give the ps3 a 320 gig drive, so thats:

www.ebuyer.com/product/136790
£51.20inc vat

Lets throw in a secondary controller as well:

www.play.com/Games/PlayStation3/4-/5258216/Sony-PS3-Black-DualShock-3-Wireless-Controller/Product.html £34.99 Free Delivery

Since PSN is free no additional costs need to be added here.

289.99+24.99+17.99+51.20+34.99

Thats a Grand Total of : £419.16

Would you believe I bought my ps3 at launch and paid £ 570 for it and dont regret it ? (i bought a few controllers and the remote and extra games)

£129.99p

XBOX Gold - only thing that compares to ps3 membership lets do it for the lifetime of the console, lets say 3 years, its had 2 already:

www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/719747/Official-Xbox-360-Play-Charge-Kit/Product.html
£12.99 Free Delivery youll need 2 though since 2 controllers. so (12.99x2)

www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/719731/Official-Xbox-360-Wireless-Controller/Product.html

extra controller:

£29.99 Free Delivery

www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/719752/Official-Xbox-360-Wireless-Network-Adapter/Product.html

And of course the wireless adaptor:
£54.99 Free Delivery

which gives us:

269.99+129.99+34.99+34.99+34.99+12.99+12.99+29.99+54.99

A Grand total of £615.91

That is comparing like for like functionality.

You really have to be freaking idiot to come here and spout bullshit about value for money, you wonder why MS is making a profit on each console and Sony is still selling at a loss ?

Take your head out of your ass and you will notice why.. You can even remove the 120 quid blu ray player and you still end up with £ 500 and youĺl be lucky if the xbox 360 even lasts 3 years.

Why would you come onto a Sony PS3 fan site and talk complete shit ? Seriously I would have to be paid good money to waste time going to a site chatting complete crap.
Only leaves the question how much is Microsoft paying you to spread such bullshit ? Or is this value add you do for MS advertising free of charge ?

My 2 pence worth..

the media wont give sony their credit becuase microsoft will just pay them like they are doing now, microsoft could come out with a new system that runs on ps1 graphics and takes 10 minuties to load but everyone will buy won cuz the media will say its amazing and all those fanboys will still say its better than sony ever could be
xbox live is not what it started out to be, its laggy and shitty, worse than psn is, there are ads everywhere there are a shitload of downloadable games but most are really shitty and pointless, xbl sold out

There IS an official Headset. It's a 49.99$ bluetooth headset. I don't have one and can't be bothered to look for reviews right now, but I remember reading of its high quality. It's packed with features like special on-screen displays, a tabletop mic mode and dual microphones.

Prediction: "There's no place like HOME"

After several updates, the addition of new sponsor/game spaces, and new content, HOME will become the envy of all gaming services.
