Just when we'd gotten used to writing a different sort of headline, Treyarch's
Call of Duty: World at War once again climbs to the top of the
UK all-format software sales charts. After being punted (that's another football joke, you see) from the top spot by FIFA 09 last week, the umpteenth shooter set during the second world war now hopes to restart its stint in first position. It previously held the spot for
five consecutive weeks.
In other chart news,
Need For Speed: Undercover moved back up to third position, with
Tomb Raider: Underworld clambering from ninth position to sixth. And who managed to leap up ten to ten?
Sonic Unleashed. This thing has more plot twists than a
Phoenix Wright trial.

This is one of this years most played xbox live game. Do people prefer this over COD4 now? I haven't tried online yet. Who's still playing COD4? Am I going to find just the high ranking officers left or campers??
Night Elve @ Dec 30th 2008 10:45AM
Hmm I'm kinda broke right now ... In the past two months I bought Resistance 2, Silent Hill, PES 09 & Little Big Planet (I love this game!). Do you think guys this game deserves my money?
If it helps I enjoyed a lot Call of Duty 4.

Same here. Thinking of getting either Modern warfare OR W@W. Which one if any should I get please?
I like Halo & GoW but dislike Rainbow6 Vegas.

The multiplayer is different from COD 4 in a lot of ways. It seems a little slower and slightly more methodical.
The maps are also bigger, and they have more wide open areas. They are all very well made, and offer seem to fit different play styles very well.
I enjoy the game multiplayer a lot. If retains the mechanical polish of COD4 and retains a lot of the same conventions. always find it hard to say "if you enjoy COD4, you will like W@W."
The game retains a lot of the same conventions, but changes enough to make if feel like a different game. I really enjoy W@W and I really enjoy COD4. I've been playing COD4 since launch and W@W seems fresh. That being said, if your not playing W@W, your not missing out on an epic game. Also, I find it easy to switch between playing COD4 and W@W, and not have either feel stale.
Strategy_Panda (The Sandwich Poisoning Crew) @ Dec 30th 2008 11:06AM
i notice a lot of typos in my post but I don't feel like correcting them. Also, I was somewhat wrong in what I said about the maps. There are *more* wide open areas in some maps, not all of them. They are all well designed though.

Ok. I just bought COD4 and had an opportunity to have WAW instead... but have heard such rave reviews about COD4. Was that a dumb move? Since WAW is a newer title and everyone is just starting it... are my chances better for not getting owned or is COD4 balanced enough to have fun this late in the game. Been playing COD4 on Veteran and it's a blast to say the least. Been a big Halo 3 fan but have found the matchmaking and ranking to be unbalanced as of late. COD4 feels fresh and I have to wonder why I didn't jump in earlier. I played through COD2 and COD3 and enjoyed the series!!
Von Dozier @ Dec 30th 2008 2:51PM
COD4 actually has the largest community right now out of the two, and people are going back from WAW to 4 every day.
COD4 is an epic, while COD5 feels like a lame cash-in forgettable summer action flick.
Tephlon @ Dec 30th 2008 4:34PM
My experiences seem to mirror Panda's.
I still enjoy both games, and there's enough similarities to have one 'make me think of the other', but I can still enjoy them both in their own ways. And if I'm having a bad streak in W@W, I can throw in COD4 and have a marvelous time... and vice versa. Infinity Ward gave COD4 a good polish that sometimes W@W seems to lack, but this by no means makes it a bad game. Both are worthy for purchase IMO, for both single and multiplayer. Ohh, and I love the expanded game types in W@W.
*Holds drink up towards Panda*

Eh @ Dec 30th 2008 12:19PM
Its not called futbol unless youre from some latin country and dont speak english. I dont know how this became such a common misconception in america, its called football in english.
j.howlett @ Dec 30th 2008 12:32PM
i call it futbol because that's how i differentiate it from football without saying soccer. i got into that habit because of spanish speaking friends, relatives, spanish class, and watching telemundo.
Haggard @ Dec 30th 2008 7:25PM
Over here we call your football American Football. Maybe you should call soccer "rest-of-the-world football".
PSN: Erdie @ Dec 30th 2008 11:32AM
It seems Yahtzee's rant about USA folks being the only ones obsessed with WW2 was a little off the mark.
Markusdragon @ Dec 30th 2008 12:23PM
To be fair, the British mostly just bring it up to annoy the Germans.
Haggard @ Dec 30th 2008 7:26PM
Don't mention the war! OH NO, I JUST DID! HAWHEEHAWHEEHAW!
Seriously though, Hitler was a douche.
Lavat @ Dec 30th 2008 12:56PM
I love this game....Everyday I wake up I get to kill another Nazi German. Dam Germans and their Nazism...
Fanboy @ Dec 30th 2008 1:15PM
I got this for xmas and love it. Maybe im a sucker for the COD serious but I like this just as much as COD4.
Deck @ Dec 30th 2008 2:21PM
I really don't understand the NFS situation, how it is 3rd is rather scary to me.
Though World at War, is a lot of fun on multiplayer. I didn't care for the campaign that much, that wasn't too great. The multi though is a lot of fun. Better than COD4's? Not sure, its different. Even though WWII has been done so many times, because they took the multiplayer system from COD4 and put it in World at War, I think that it adds a fresh face to the over-done WWII time period. There were 236000+ people playing this on XBL last night, its pretty good.
bizzehdee @ Dec 30th 2008 2:33PM
btw, there is no such thing as a punt in FIFA 09, because its actual football, as in, what the entire planet except the USA call football, football.
guess the writer didnt know that, or they attempted to make one of the worst jokes ever made.
The Dark Wayne @ Dec 30th 2008 2:53PM
it's ludwig
UltimateQ @ Dec 30th 2008 5:56PM
Its alright. I have it for the wii. I've played it online. Its like CoD4. I've played CoD4 on several consoles but primarily on the PC. I never cared for it, and thus I don't really care for this game. I'm much more old school and prefer more twitch based game play, and less insta-gib with random spawn locations.
ChiTownRuler23 @ Dec 30th 2008 6:02PM
wtf people buying FIFA? this is the first i heard of this. o and btw if you plan on buying a new COD game get COD4 and rent CODW@W just for the zombie nazi's
gamepad @ Dec 30th 2008 7:23PM
It's the UK sales charts so Fifa is to them as what madden is to Americans.
ChiTownRuler23 @ Dec 30th 2008 9:37PM
