WOW was Fallout 3 close.......I still think Fallout 3 deserves GOTY instead of Gears. It's got a deeper story (save for the shitty ending), it has a vast huge world to explore. It has an amazing replay value (im on 130 hours) and the wasteland is huge and expansive. Great character customization, levels, perks. I just think it's an overall better game =/ (I'm not saying Gears 2 is bad though :D)

A problem I feel with end of the year awards is that people always forget the early releases, now while these awards are often meaningless it is always an end of the year game, or christmas release that wins.

That being said, I have yet to play Gears of War 2, Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, Fable 2, or Left 4 Dead, so maybe the opinions are accurate to mine.

Concurred, i mean look at STFU, and NG2 and Condemned, i mean did we forget about all of these, what bout madden 09, i was really feeling that,

im not disagreeing wit you, im jus saying that all the better games seem to be held for the end of the year, its the damn publishers. I'm sure gow and or halo would not have to worry about when they release, similar to the final fantasy series, but hey, what do we know.

Hmm, I honestly prefer GoW2, even with all its problems, to L4D. L4D never sucked me in, I never thought any part of it was any good.

@ comments 1 and 2, there is one exception that I see. Burnout Paradise came out in January and still got the Driving Game Of The Year award. However, most of the other games that won were almost end of year or holiday releases.
