Bethesda, really!?
Criterion deserved it more. No other game studio i can think of have created and supported a game so well.
Personally i found the practically empty wasteland of Fallout 3 (and similarly their previous game Oblivion) reeeeaaaallly boring.

Criterion has been good to us, when they come out with paid DLC I won't mind paying up. Other developers should take notice, and gamers should notice and respect it.

Outrageous, Criterion should have won easily. Burnout Paradise is an excellent game and by itself it would be hard to say Criterion deserves this but how many updates have the given us already? Not even updates but DLC and they were free. Sure Bethesda has DLC planned for fallout but so does Criterion. When compared, Criterion has four more updates come while Bethesda has only one. Criterion has been updating a game that came out almost a year ago with game enhancing DLC. Sure it’s unfair since Fallout only just came out but the award is for studio of the year and in my opinion no studio has done a more superb job than Criterion. Its sad to see that this award became a popularity contest with Fallout (a great game) taking it, then a very buggy multiplayer Gears taking second and Rockstar in third even though their first DLC has been coming since “fall”. It should have been Criterion in first for Burnout Paradise and their continued support to that excellent game, Bethesda second for Fallout 3 and that excellent experience plus promised expansion, Rockstar in third because GTA IV was a monster hit and DLC in Feb, EA Redwood in fourth for Dead Space because it was nice to see a survival horror that would freak you out in a way like resident evil use to, Ubisoft for Prince of Persia & Far Cry 2 in fifth because they made two great games to compare to everyone else’s one, and finally a deserving last for Epic because while single player game play meets the standard of all these other great games the multiplayer is an ‘Epic’ fail for its poor matchmaking at release and the many bugs/glitches that hold this GOTY award winner (see GOTY fanpole) at a solid fourth on the LIVE charts. Outrageous indeed.

kinda seems like people are voting for their favorite game, not the 'best' game studio... I agree with all the comments, Criterion should have won without a doubt.

Whelp, everyone above speaks for me. I especially agree people were just voting for their favorite games.

I LOVE Fallout 3. LOVE it! But Criterion SO should have won this. Their incredible and continued support for Burnout Paradise is just that, incredible.

So what was this award for? Where we supposed to pick based on what game we liked the most or the developer's support of that game?

I voted Ubisoft Montreal for two well above average games. Both have a huge amount of polish and entertainment value. I think it extremely hard to make a great game, but even more so to make two really good games that release within weeks of each other.
