Valve will reveal downloadable content for its popular zombie-fueled shooter Left 4 Dead, "shortly." According to a video podcast with Kotaku, Chet Faliszek, one of the game's writers, confirmed that the team was looking to add Versus functionality to the Dead Air and Death Toll campaigns and to release brand new scenarios.
Faliszek also stated that, unlike Team Fortress 2, Valve plans to release DLC for the Xbox 360 and PC at the same time. During the recording, which took place on December 15, Faliszek speculated that DLC news would be releases before Christmas Day but said the announcement could be delayed due to the press team going on vacation. "We'll have an announcement shortly, I don't know exactly when."
No pricing details for either platforms were discussed.

In addition to more content, I hope they add a fix to the "exploits" in Versus (blocking elevator, hiding under ramp, etc.). Still my GOTY.

The Elevator blocking is really annoying. Happens every time I play that level on vs too. Another thing that annoys me is when people camp out in the safe room. I guess it isn't the game's fault that some people are just douchebags.
Can't wait for new DLC though- this game is awesome!
It's a shame that zombies don't come out of the ground too. I feel like a trick has been missed, although I guess it wouldn't go along with the whole "infection" theme.

I hope they don't charge, I didn't think there was enough content for $60. Oh, there certainly REPLAY value out the A-hole for sixty bucks, but not enough content. :-)

its not entirely that ms is greedy, they are in the business of making money after all...
however, it is because of the distribution model of xbox live that MICROSOFT is hosting ALL the files, and not the content creator. they dont want anyone and everyone creating free contnet that microsoft gets tons of downloads for and has to strain their servers and bandwith for $0 in return.
i like free content u just have to see the other side ot understand where theyre coming from.
i think they need to change the distribution model to allow 3rd party servers to be contacted for downloads like that.

@ jerkfaced
You think the downloads aren't on a server for Steam users? I bet Valve would offer host them on their own servers if this was even an issue.
Even if it was an issue, I think my $50/yr will take care of any expenses like that.

I'm hoping for more weapon varieties:
-chainsaw
-baseball bats
-revolvers
-rocket launcher
And an impossible mode where you need to shoot the zombies in the head.

Should be free!! this game is so buggy and $10 for 2 more buggy campaigns or more versus functionality is a rip. I've never had a game freeze up so much, well maybe Fallout 3 but given the enormity of the game I can forgive that. I own a pro for my PC, a Halo box for the bedroom and an Elite for the living room. I not trying to brag I'm just saying it's not the fault of the console. And yes, $10 bucks is no big whoop for me. But just like GOW 2: "fix the game first before releasing content"!! FYI yes I angry.

Maybe you got a bad disc because I've never had any "freezing" issues with Left 4 Dead (or Fallout for that matter). Runs smooth as silk for me.

I too have intermittent lock-up problems. It's a common problem - just Google for it and you'll find a ton of similar complaints.

Should be interesting to see. I've held off buying this because i wanted to see how well they'd support it and how much they'd charge for that support.
What you actually get from the retail package isn't enough to warrant my money but free DLC would sway me.

Of COURSE it's going to cost money.
Why do people think it's going to be free? MS won't allow it, that's why the TF2 updates haven't gone through, Valve was pissy about not being able to release them at no cost.
I know that when I buy something for the 360, the updates are going to cost.
I don't know how Burnout Paradise did it, but I don't know many other games that can.
I enjoy the game enough to justify spending 800 points. I just hope it comes soon, would be a nice early 2009 present :)

I personally have decided to buy valve games for pc after buying orange box on the xbox and then missing out on the tons of free content on the pc.

and I totally appreciate that.
My friends are on XBL, and they wouldn't be playing on the PC - so I stick it there.
That and I don't want to have to play video games in my bedroom, that just sucks ;)

Valve is used to hosting their own content on Steam and not having to pay a 3rd Party company like MS to host the content so they can have it free or paid if they like.
MS charges to have content hosted and maintained on Xbox Live.
It's really up to the developer or the publisher if they want to release their content for free and not pass on the cost of XBL hosting to the users.
I have downloaded plenty of free game content on Live over the years and it has nothing to do with the PS3. A game like COD2 that was never released on PS3 had a few free and paid map packs.
You are going off of the statement made by someone at Epic last year that said MS would not allow them to release the maps for Gears for free.
This is because MS Game studio is the PUBLISHER of Gears and paid Epic lots of money to have that game made exclusivly for Xbox and PC.
If they are the publisher of the game then they have every right to decide what content is free or paid.

I wish there was a true versus mode. Where instead of a 4v4 campaign it would be on a real deathmatch style map. I have no clue how it would work.
I also wish there was a mode where you could just play as zombies without having to join a multiplayer match. I mean there are AIs in the MP matches why cant there just be 4 AIs on the survivor team.

Didn't they speculate about new zombies as well over the summer? That could be better then new guns. I'll be getting whatever it is because this game owns and I need something to pull me back into it...

I think it'd be fair if they released the other 2 maps on live for free, and then charged for extra maps that don't come on the disc... I'll hope for that but if they charge for the whole lot of it, I know I'll still pay for it anyways...

Firstly, the only issues I've had with this game are the 'Retrying connection to server' message that likes to interrupt often. It's not enough to put me off though, this game is simply so damn fun that I don't think anything short of shutting down the servers would stop me playing.
As for the content, I ofc hope it's free, but even if it isn't, L4D is one of the few games where I'll happily pay for dlc.
New weapons would rock, versus on the remaining 2 campaigns would be better - however, new infected classes would be insanely awesome.
My suggestions? Put an immunity/proximity timer on the safe room to avoid camping there. The most annoying thing is having to wait for 10 minutes while the survivors make sure their hair is right/change their pants.
Also, maybe create some sort of One around areas such as the elevator exit, so if a generator or whatever is meleed into the doorway, it's either removed by the director or it can't be moved close enough to prevent survivors escaping.
Saying that though, despite it being a glitch, it does make for some tense moments when your team doesn't give up and start moaning/quitting. You feel so much more achievement when you win that round despite getting blocked in!

First, if the survivors don't open the safe room door, it'll open automatically. I saw this happen Saturday when one of them was away using the bathroom.
Second, the score is based on the distance traveled. If they don't want to leave the safe room, then great! Their points for that level will be in the single digits.

I want a new Infected boss, that is a zombie child that cries like the witch but leaps onto a survivors back. The survivor is still able to fight and move but the Child will dig into their back draining health until one of the other survivors kills him or knocks him off.

L4D is amazing.
for those of you who accuse it of bein buggy, yer 360 is shit.
n ya the elevator blocking and whatnot are somewhat cheap. they need to anchor the props. besides the stuff the tank can use to incapacitate (i.e. cars, forklifts).
the ramp trick is just a strategy. if u get that pissed, wait to become a tank, then all 4 survivors r screwed >.
