Why are people voting him up?

The problem is to do with save files - ie. hard drive space - and has *nothing* at all to do with the Cell.

The Cell makes it harder to program and thus makes it harder to implement dynamic memory, read the article.

please enlighten us on what dynamic memory is.

i'm not saying the Cell has no problems - three different compilers to get any use of it is just one of its problems. i would, however, like to know what you think dynamic memory is.

If it has to do with the hard drive, why cant I have 80 GB worth of stuff in my LBP save file? Why impose a limit if the only true limit was hard drive space?

Re-sizable arrays, lists, tuples, etc. When a programmer writes a program they can either set a fixed size for data storage or dynamic size, which changes as needed.

Dude, Alien, YOU ARE THE FUCKING PROBLEM! ESC is an example of a "good" commentator, if you will, whereas you think that you're as cool as ESC, but in reality, you're really just a fucking hypocrite. The only reason you think that there as so many LittleBigPS3 Fanboys is because whenever somebody disagrees with you, you tell them that they are in fact a fanboy.

So, you are a fanboy fanboy. You are a fan, and a boy, of the term fanboy.

Um, no. It's to do with player profile size, nothing else. MM put a cap on it so you didn't end up filling up your harddrive.

A warning pops up to tell you when your profile data is full, but it seems people are just ignoring it (easy enough to do, if you mistake it for just another "your friend has just got a score of X on level Y!").

I'm not sure why you think it has anything to do with dynamic memory or the Cell.

well its funny we hear about LBP 2 before LBP was even working fine and fixed.
i know where media molecules time and money is going and that is for LBP2.

why are LBP and socom having so many problems?
this will probably make people (the non ps3 fanboy game buying public) very weary of 2009 titles such as MAG, heavy rain, and etc.

i think the best marketing for MAG would have been a well thought out and completed version of SOCOM.

when 2 of the 5 biggest game releases of the year for sony ps3 have major issues that is not good marketing at all.

I don't think the problems with LBP will be noticed by most of the average game consumers. I have played it quite a bit and have seen few problems, so I imagine its mostly those who play a lot more than the average consumer who run into the glitches all the time. As far as Socom, I haven't grabbed that one - because all I have heard are bad things.

Perhaps that beta should have lasted another month or two, even if it meant it missed the holiday season? These all seem like the kinds of issues that a beta is meant to catch.

It's not really a glitch, like Hyams has been saying, this is just a feature spawned from poor foresight from Media Molecule. Similar to Nintendo's memory problem, but far more easily fixable

Alien Lord is talking out his ass. This has nothing to do with any kind of static or dynamic memory. I'm sure it's just an arbitrary save file size limit that LBP is running up against. I read the forums over on LBP and there's no official explanation, just a bunch of PS3 users trying to figure out a way around it.

So let me state again.
This. Has. Nothing. To. Do. With. Hardware.

Its probably just a filesize/filecount limit for the game imposed by Sony. As in any game may only have X amount of files and Y amount of space taken up.

I only suggest this because this is what Microsoft does (200 files I think it is, something I've reached in Halo 3)

From server issues to shattering levels to censoring to save files... It's just toooo buggy and not fun enough to fight through it. This is my most overhyped game of the year nomination. I wanted to love it, but I'm just being honest with myself.

"Is it too much to ask that game developers release a WORKING game instead of rushing a bork'd product out the door and spend the next year patching it?"

I don't think you understand just how expensive/time consuming testing for bugs truly is. It can only go so far, too. God, do gamers even think before they complain nowadays? This is a game where the gamers create the game world. There are going to be bugs. It is a newish concept realized in new, complex ways. There are going to be bugs. Hell, I'll make things simple. It is a game. There are going to be bugs. Bugs have been around forever. How long have we truly been complaining about them? Ever since patching began, because for some reason, we're under the impression that bugs are these easy things to sort out and that, if you're a half decent developer, you WILL catch every last bug before the game ships. Which is not true. It is almost impossible to catch every bug in your game, even if you have a humongous budget. It's all dependent on the nature and design of the game (you're not going to find many bugs in a racing game... a sandbox game, on the other hand? GTA4 cost $100 million and probably had an all-star beta testing team and still had it's fair share of glitches), and if you have a game where the content is decided by the gamer? Well, there are millions of us out there, and therefore millions of possibilities. Meaning that the myriad of possible problems with this game aren't going to be caught in beta testing. The more obvious ones? Sure. This, though? I doubt it could have been caught, and now that it has, a solution is likely in the works. So, lemme ask, what the hell is the big deal? Yeah, some people lost their data (myself included). If this were five years ago, we'd be shit outta luck, and this'd still be a problem that wouldn't have been caught in testing (this just in! having the ability to patch games doesn't mean devs are gonna rush the games out... games are just more complex these days, duh)."

And so is everything else - cars, airplanes, microwave ovens, televisions, toys. This necessitates extensive product testing.

God forbid if you ever work in a QA department. "Yeah, we're at a 43% defect rate. Good enogh for me!!!"

Yeah, because saying that this game has a 43% success rate totally wouldn't be an exaggeration.

The amount of people experiencing this glitch is likely still a small fraction of the userbase, and when a userbase reaches a million or more, you can presume that it's a glitch that might not have been apparent in testing.

Clearly Alien Lord's bias flamebait comment is bs since this has nothin to do with the cell. The save file has a limit, much like any other game that has saves. For instance, GodofWar1 allows four save slots even if the memory card is emptied. Even the old Sierra games allows you to save a limit of 20? saves before you have to change folders regardless if you hdd has a lot of free space after.

AS others said, most likely the saves had a cap because they didn't want the hdd to fill up with 20 gb consisting of several thousands community objects of useless stuff like hugeass trophies made of black matter or photos of a bunch of creepylookin LBP users. But yeah, a lot of games out there has a cap on the amount of saves one can do.

I don't know why Alien Lord gets votes up, but if ppl like gettin skewed news from some bias poster with no actual source to back it up, then whatever.

I am sure Alien Lord has never played LBP to come up with an unbias explaination on why LBP has this glitch, but the reason is that before the patch with the mgs levels came to be, there was a pop up that shows up saying that your profile is too big, hence it cannot save. However, after the addon patch, the pop up no longer shows up (for any game regardless of console, addin' or modifyin codes may result in unwanted side effects or bugs.) Before the patch, MM thought that the cap would be suitable for all the story mode objects pluz the community objects, hence ppl like myself, never went over the cap before the addon patch. However, with the addon, it was very common (I also experience this after the addon) to go over the cap, hence the game won't save.

This is the game's first addon content, so it can't be faulted for having a bug or two. There is no game I can think of that has no bugs nor required additional patches for an addon. I am sure MM will expand the save prfoile cap to make room more user crap, as well as additional addon staages in the future.

A lot of ppl failed to understand that this problem occurs with the new add, which was in the form of a patch. The update added a lot of stuff such as a new weapon (the painator), a new littlebigplanetstore in game menu, and the metal gear level pack(new levels). Also, the patch was added right before the holdays and was delayed in other parts of the world like the U.K.

What I am sayin is that with all the new stuff MM added, they overlook to reconfiged the save file to allow more objects of the game, hence the glitch.

It is also hard to predict how much objects the user community would publish for others to win as prizes before the game comes out. I would think MM didn't imagine that there would be that much community objects made by fans to affect gamer's save at the time of the patch.

People treat this as if this game was the first ever to have a glitch, yet other games like Castle Crashers are overlooked. gee, I wonder why?

I agree and I think you deserve a vote from me with your comment. Some ppl make a big deal out of it because they believe it a nail to Sony or whatever. The fact is every game has bugs no matter what it is and it will most likely be fixed within a week. This one is a very small oversight that can be fixed easily, but was overlooked because it was the first addon MM put out for lbp. I believe that once it is patched, ppl who bias will no longer fuss about it and find something else to bash the game for.

Is LBP worth buying for someone like me that likes to spend 1-2 hours a time playing games? It seems to me like the levels are really short, so you can't get too invested. I've tried renting the game, but I can't seem to find it.

If anything, I'd say that for me I have trouble squeezing in my game time to just 2 hours with this game. Sure the levels are short, but there are just so many of them out there so it gets to the point where I say "just one more" and already another hour has passed as I've played another 10 great levels. Also, if you're a fan of level design (puzzles, art, complex mechanisms, whatever) then you could easily spend 5-10 hours straight working on designing a level. I'm sure that it takes a certain type of gamer, but at least for me it's really easy to get really immersed.

I'd really like to see an update that allows you to review the, pardon my French, crap that you sometimes get in user-generated levels. Everything from worthless objects to questionable stickers gets automatically dumped into your bag. I'm sure I'm not alone in having to go through and delete reams of meaningless and unwanted items to get rid of the "unable to save your profile" pop up that occurs when you exceed your space allocation. Really a pain. I'd rather just be able to "decline all" and/or selectively accept what is given at the end of a level.
