People pay 5-8 dollars to rent games at blockbuster before they buy it...I know I always do.

I would not doubt a demo coming out after or a little bit before the games release. This is just another way for me and other Killzone 2 fans to get a chance to play the game. As us Killzone fans are going to preorder I think that was the intention of the marketers and for the interest of Gamestop.

giving the demo with pre-orders means you are not receiving anything else as a pre-order bonus. no in game bonuses, etc.

since when was a demo a bonus?

demos are supposed to be FREE copies of media used for marketing purposes.

lol.. nice way to spin that one..

Semantics. They could call it a "Game Test" but just because a Demo has a attached meaning does not mean any company involved has revealed any intention even to have people have to test it there before they choose to buy it. So it is merely a bonus from what I see.

But you do not seriously doubt they would not release a demo later on in 2009. How would those who would choose to want to test it for free and will wait to try it or not be any different off for those who intend to get it anyway. That contradicts the "marketing purpose" of a demo if it was what you see it as a demo in this preorder then Sony seems to not care if it is at a loss. I am at a Win.

so i have to pay money to play the demo?

so they are banking on only customers who want to play the game for $ 60 playing the demo?

this doesnt sound good to me.

sony doesnt offer enough ps3 game demo's.

i wonder why sony charges for their demos.
bad practice IMO.

still no LBP, socom, MGS4, and other exclusive game release demo's on PSN.

MGS4 did eventually come out with a demo but it would be better if there were more and they came out in a timely manner. this seems to offer early access sine the demo code is scheduled feb 3 and the game for feb 27. if you changed your mind you could get the 5 bucks back and it's not like it's extra money on top of the game

You sure are going crazy on this one.

Can you prove a pre-order (which can be canceled or moved to another game and isn't binding in any way) demo means there won't be any other content? I don't know that there /will/ be, but I'm also not the one going around saying there definitely won't be.

Are you going to pretend there aren't demos for Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank, SuperStardust HD, PixelJunk Racers, Monsters and Eden and, yes, MGS4 on the PSN? All exclusive, all have demos. I think even Warhawk has one.

howlett- i didnt know a MGS demo came out. i bought the game on day 1 regardless.
i pre-ordered the game at gamestop, got the beta code, didnt like the beta game. and stopped my pre-order at gamestop.
it was cool to also get the dvd.
i cancelled because CC was offering the game at $ 50, so the $ 5 spent was well worth it anyway.

and you dont get the money back its only a credit at the store.
but your right cancelling the pre-order still gets this demo almost free.
its still just a hassle.

trev- i said LBP, socom, and MGS4, and now killzone 2, i was wrong on MGS4.
but its nice to get a demo before a game releases to see if we want to buy the game.

it looks bad if there is no demo available IMO.

A similar stunt was pulled with L4D. People that pre-orderded got the demo early. It was then later made public. So maybe the same will be done here.

You guys, MGS4 doesn't have a demo, it's MGO or Metal Gear Online that just recently came out in demo form.

Carry on.

Wait wait wait.

A demo is to help people decide whether or not they want to buy the game, and a preorder is for people who already know they want to buy the game.

So what's the point of giving the demo to someone who already knows they're gonna buy the game?

This is stupid.

i completely agree... lol..

demos are marketing tools to attract customers..
not used as a pre order bonus to fanboys who pay $ 60 to pre-order the game.

honestly speaking is the demo that bad to where they dont want to offer it free to the public, thinking the public would only talk down on the game across the internet which would greatly affect sales.

what does sony think anymore?? i dunno...

it shouldnt even be called a demo.
it goes against the definition.

Get with the times man, welcome to 2006. The "demo" can be a little taste for people excited about a game. Simple, and not hard to understand - you're excited about it, play it early if you want. Think of it as 'preview' if you're getting hung up on the word "demo" like so many in this thread are.

k its a preview of the demo.
but still a demo

i dont know why some get so hung up on it not being a demo because they are charging $ 5.

at least with MGS4 we got the DVD which was a nice addition bouns.

i was also just pointing out that it seems PS3 demos take a lot longer to appear than most 360 demos after the game releases.
if they have it available why not share it with the public?
its a demo.

2 Questions:

1) Has anyone received there pre-order in store demo code yet? (I plan on reserving mine tonight, wondering if they have the codes already?)

2) Is this a offline or online demo? (I plan on downloading the demo online from the store, but will I have to connect to the internet to play it?)

So Sony wont let people try a demo unless they pre-order the game first, why does this set off alarm bells in my head.

To be fair, it looks like those who pre-order only get the demo *early*.

I still think it's stupid though. I'd like the demo at the begining to February too, plz Sony.

Why would it set off an alarm in your head? And since when does that mean anything coming from you?

Sony is just allowing the ppl who pre ordered kz2 see how the game is like earlier than others. If ppl find the demo sux, they can STILL cancel their preorders.

if the game is actually crappy, why would Sony let ppl play a demo to REALIZE it BEFORE buying the game. Wouldn't it be safer to not release a demo so people will HAVE to buy it to find out? Seems more like Sony is pretty damn confident about this game.

Now, i do dislike how the demo is exclusive to pre orders and to gamespot, but i don't think it'll suck. ;) just a gut feeling.

I dunno if this had anything to do with the ringing in your head, though. The ringing does explain all your stupid comments.

Then it doesn't know anything about me. Why would I want to play Killzone 2 again? I tried the beta and I just saw what PS3 fans have been criticizing the 360 for - having too many run of the mill shooters. Then out pops R2 and Killzone 2? Don't make me laugh.

Coming in 2012, Killzone 3. Exclusive demo to be included as DLC only two brief weeks after release.

I know they're giving the demo to people who pre-order and you can always cancel your preorder... but just think about it.

"You can't play 10 minutes of the game we've made until you commit $60 out of your wallet. Oh, you didn't like the demo? We'll, you can always trade in the game at Gamestop for $30!

I mean really, what ARE they trying to accomplish with this?

Gears 2 had a demo... Gears 1. People knew what to expect.

Killzone 1 came out for a different system, and wasn't very good. So Killzone 2 needs to prove itself, it needs a demo.

1 Question:

I just ordered the game online for In-store pickup, so I'm guessing they email me the code? They aren't gonna be gay and say you pick up the demo code the release date of the game are they?

That's a good reason to do pre-order, and if I don't like the demo, I can still refund my purchase.. :)

What's with the negativity about inFamous? Gameplay seems amazing.. the city has a good atmosphere.. graphics are amazing for an open world city game.. and climbing is equal if not better then AC. The only concern for me is the shortness of the game, but I've said it with Dead Space, AC, GTA 4, etc.. I'd rather have a short and sweet single player then a drawn out, repetitive one for some hours.

I'm not expecting it to be the best game ever, but I think it will surprise a lot of people if they are only expecting mediocrity.

I think a lot of people who bought Gears 2 either played the first one or knew what they were getting themselves into.

It isn't exactly like seeing "Puppyz Adventurez II" and having to guess at what the game is about. I know I wouldn't buy the game if I wasn't informed about it.

Besides, Fallout, Prince of Persia and Fable 2 did not have demos and they were all heavy hitting sequels (whether or not you personally enjoy them).

I always thought a demo was to seal the deal on people being hyped about your product. Selling the demo always felt like a company suckering people into getting something they weren't sure would sell.

But this has happened before, lucky any demo came out at all. I don't think GOW2 even had a demo so I guess demos are a thing of the past when it comes to selling a game.

I just love how SONY continues to dictate as if it were the industry leader in anything these days. Plus GameStop is horrible in every business practice sense of the word. They suck as a corporation and their poorly paid uninformed employees are clueless for it, period.

Look SONY needs to drop this DEMO on everyone and anyone who wants to and can play it. They need a real hit, BAD. Plus if the game is as solid as they claim what would they have to lose by allowing that to be spread like wild fire?

Capcom wasn't any better in how in they treated their DEMO for the much hyped Resident Evil 5. Capcom behaved like douche-bags in releasing that DEMO in Japan first... but again, they can due that sadly because it is what it is and it can be backed up thus far. SONY or it's Kill Zone franchise, not so much.
