PS3 3-in-1 wireless pad boasts keyboard, remote and controller functionality
We really don't know much about this third-party Swiss army peripheral other than what we can glean from its name and a fuzzy product picture. It's a PlayStation 3 remote, keyboard and controller, although the latter is still up for debate since it's hard to tell how playable those thumbsticks are -- if that's even what they are. We also can't really tell if there are L and R triggers behind the remote portion or if we'd somehow have to use the keys on the top of the remote. Regardless, at just under $30, consider our curiosity officially piqued.

"since it's hard to tell how playable those thumbsticks are"
Probably no worse than the terrible Dual Shock.
Lavat @ Dec 30th 2008 6:59PM
Everything on the Dualshock is awesome. Having being shifted to my 360 after I had to send my Ps3 in for maintenance I grow sick of the bulkiness inflicted on me while I play Gears.
Megadanxzero @ Dec 30th 2008 7:02PM
It does appear to be even less ergonomic than the Dual-Shock though, and that hasn't happened since the Wii's Classic Controller...
Haggard @ Dec 30th 2008 7:16PM
It's often down to hands. My larger ones prefer a 360 pad (or the Duke from back in the day), but my friends love the dualshock. But I don't get why Sony have designed their analogue sticks convex rather than concave, since it's the exact opposite shape of your thumbs.
anthonyjh @ Dec 30th 2008 7:20PM
As I have small hands, I hate the 360 controller. Dualschock for me all the way.
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Dec 30th 2008 7:33PM
really????
the Dualshock design has been around for over 15 years now.....if it was REALLY THAT bad they would have changed it and stuck with that dumb Boomerang lookin shit........fuckin fanboys.........get off it.....
zero2dash @ Dec 30th 2008 7:42PM
360 may have better analog sticks, but the DS3 has a MUCH better d-pad.
That's the only issue I have with the 360 controllers, otherwise I love them. The d-pad is counter-intuitive with anything 2D. Try playing Contra/Super Contra with the d-pad, go into a crouch, and then try to switch aim to the opposite side without getting up and pointing your gun at the ground, then ending up eating a bullet by a grunt soldier's pea shooter.
343 Guilty Fart @ Dec 30th 2008 7:59PM
I prefer the 360 controller hands down. The placement of the analog sticks on the dualshock is just awful. The 360s left stick is perfect, it's right where my thumb wants to be.
mr nimblewick @ Dec 30th 2008 8:07PM
Watch your mouth, "PSN: Aggie_CEO," if that is your real name. No one insulted your mother.
XkawsX @ Dec 30th 2008 8:13PM
I have large hands and I still prefer the Dual Shock 3. The bulkiness and the weight of the 360 controller is too much. The 360 controller feels like a 3rd party controller to me.
Mike @ Dec 30th 2008 8:17PM
I don't mind the sticks on the dual shock. I hate the position of the shoulder buttons though. True that the dual shock's design has been around for 15 years. To me that just means that it's an antiquated design that they had to fall back on because of the backlash from the boomerang design. IMO, the 360 controller is better.
Dan CiTi @ Dec 30th 2008 8:17PM
I don't get the large hands argument. My hands are pretty big(I've got Code Geass hands) and the 360 controller fits the same as the Dualshock.
Megadanxzero @ Dec 30th 2008 8:24PM
I don't get why people don't like the 360 D-Pad...
1) I don't see what's wrong with it, it works fine for me, and I prefer the feel of it to the rough surface on the Dual shock (Plus the gaps in between buttons are really uncomfortable)
2) I never use it anyway... I can't see why you would unless there's some game that uses it loads that I don't know about
Haggard @ Dec 30th 2008 10:49PM
The 360 D-pad is problematic not because of its shape or comfort, but because it's difficult to get it to point the way you want it to.
I've only used one plugged into my PC, but DMC4 was a pain in the arse to switch between Dante's fighting styles.
Little Big PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Dec 31st 2008 1:16AM
I never had a problem switching between both controllers when I still had my 360. In all honesty I don't even really have much of a preference. Just one of those things. I do think the DS3 has the more useful d-pad and the 360 controller has better should buttons - but for me those are not that big of a deal on either.
The Wii controller is the one that took some serious getting used to for me. I usually just use the classic controller because I can't stand the Wii Mote and chuck. It's just one of those things for me but it doesn't stop me from enjoying Wii games.
TL:DR version
I'm good with pretty much any controller on any console. Small differences between them that makes little difference to me.
Aniphx @ Dec 31st 2008 5:29AM
I like both the Dual Shock controller and the 360 controller. The only thing that makes the Dual Shock better in my book is the D-Pad. Microsoft still can't get it right.
Mike @ Dec 31st 2008 9:40PM
Clearly Megadanxzero has not played Fallout 3 with a 360 controller. Its weakness really shines when you've got all 8 shortcuts mapped.
knighty (GT: ZeraKnight) @ Dec 31st 2008 11:00PM
Actually I know for a fact he has. And it's exactly the same in Oblivion. I agree it's absolutely awful in both situations.
ill trooper @ Dec 30th 2008 6:54PM
As for the triggers, I'd guess that the 'L1,2,3' and 'R1,2,3' buttons above the joysticks handle those functions, without having a trigger on the front/right of the thing. Maybe not the best controller for a trigger-heavy shooter?
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Dec 30th 2008 6:57PM

lets just go ahead and put this in the "Trash" category...

Are you kidding me? I've been search for this my entire life. Never did I think I would be able to find such a paperweight.

lol....... I have a better paperweight.......its called me brothers RRoD'ed white box
Jim Halpert DM @ Dec 30th 2008 7:38PM
Guess the RROD jokes never get old.... at least they fix it for free.
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Dec 30th 2008 7:41PM
yea......for now......does that even cover the NEW models that are out now or only the older ones??? cause I want to get one but damn sure wont if thats not covered......
Megadanxzero @ Dec 30th 2008 8:34PM
Any 360 console that gets the RRoD will be repaired for free if it's been less than 3 years since you bought it. Considering the fact that the 360's only just turned 3 I'd say that's a pretty good deal...

That review sold me! I'm ordering mine right now :)
Alien Lord @ Dec 30th 2008 7:01PM
Are you setting up a listing a Ebay too?
SirFishouse @ Dec 30th 2008 11:12PM
I checked it out this morning when Kotaku scooped it :::cough cough:::
It's just about 50 bucks shipped to the US. Might as well buy the real thing I think. Some reviews on it have been pretty decent so far. One thing is for sure, Their servers got hit hard today from all the publicity. From engaget, kotaku, and now joystiq.

Technically, the DS3 does all of that. Oh, and that thing probably doesn't vibrate. On another note, whats up with the DS hate? Prior to my forum days, it was my impression that it was good. And I still like it. Could somebody tell me whats wrong with it, while not being a dick?
Alien Lord @ Dec 30th 2008 7:02PM
There's nothing wrong with the DS, I've got one and it's fine.
Megadanxzero @ Dec 30th 2008 7:04PM
The main problem is that it's completely shit...
Sorry, I couldn't help being a dick ^^
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Dec 30th 2008 7:10PM
Well, it's not that bad once you get used to it, but I still think that anybody who honestly prefers it to 360 controller is either a fanboy or has small hands...
Megadanxzero @ Dec 30th 2008 7:12PM
I just don't get why the haven't changed it at all since the PS1... It's clearly a very flawed design, why haven't they tried to improve it? Well... Unless you count the boomerang thing, but I'm sure that must have been a joke
Haggard @ Dec 30th 2008 7:20PM
It sells. Nobody except us nerds care about the ergonomics of a pad, and as Nintendo has proved, what nerds thinks mean nothing, financially.
You look at a Dualshock and the brand-association lobe of your brain clicks and says "playstation controller". They've been around so long that they're less daunting, whilst if you hand the average soccer mom a Gamecube, N64 or old Xbox controller and they'll be absolutely lost.
knighty (GT: ZeraKnight) @ Dec 30th 2008 7:20PM
It's because people who grew up with a good console (ie the N64) god used to pushing forward with their left thumb to move forward. The people who grew up with a lesser console (the PS1) enjoy pushing left to move forward.
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Dec 30th 2008 7:29PM
nothing wrong with the DS......got the Wife one for Christmas........and I'll most likely be getting one when GTA: Chinatown Wars comes out.....
dnlkk94 @ Dec 30th 2008 8:54PM
@ Aggie: DS as in DualShock, the PlayStation controllers, not the Nintendo DS.

It looks like a cellphone, except with a TV remote on the face, instead of the, er, cellphone part.
But for all the complaints people have about the Wii, this is why it is successful - it's got like 5 buttons, and doesn't look daunting at all. I couldn't even imagine trying to show my girlfriend or parents how to use this monstrosity.
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Dec 30th 2008 7:30PM

Vidikron @ Dec 30th 2008 7:32PM

mij-123 @ Dec 30th 2008 7:32PM
Terrible piece of sh*t.
The L1 and L2 (along with the R1 and R2) buttons are beside each other rather than infront and behind each other.
It's got this horrible gritty black finish and it's uncomfartably thick. As for those 'thumbsticks', pushing them forward reslts in them slipping to the side, so you'll end up (In an FPS/TPS) strafing instead of runinng forward.
DO NOT BUY!
I'm just glad I didn't have to pay for this crap.
Popfrogs @ Dec 30th 2008 10:43PM
I have a sneaking suspicion this isn't intended to play games, just for the media center and web browsing functions.
