Support group time: No 'Zelda' released in 2008

We knew something was missing this year. Turns out TGR triggered what we were longing for when it noted the absence of Legend of Zelda in 2008. In fact, it was the first year since 1999 that we didn't take up Link's sword. Check out a list of the past decade's releases after the break.

Hopefully we'll get a new Zelda next year, but for those who need to talk about the emptiness they feel, please be sure to leave a comment. This is a place of love and support. A place of safety. Feel free to cry.

1999 – No releases
2000 – Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

Nah, did you read the title? No Zelda in 08. Pretty sure if a Zelda came out in 08 it'd be about the biggest gaming news ever; Zelda in a day?

i haven't owned a nintendo product in years, but something about coming out w/ a franchise product every year as if its a sports game kinda takes the sheen off the experience to me for some reason. i guess this is inviting a low rank, but i think the product would be even more successful if they were thrown out once every 1 months, or 2 years. throw some extra refinement into it, make it more "epic"

i mean, would do any 360 fans think halo would have been good if they came out w/ em back to back to back? same w/ MGS series?

SimbaDogg: I'd agree with you if they were all major releases like yearly Maddens, but half of these titles are either spinoffs or handheld projects with entirely different creative teams; it's not the same thing. I'd peg it as similar to the Call of Duty mentality. (which, I admit, has its own pitfalls)

Or just another sign that Nintendo doesn't give a crap about real games anymore.

Shame, too, cause it didn't have to be this way. Imagine how fast could Nintendo have banged out a version of 4 Swords for WiiWare or DS if they wanted?
And how awesome would 4 Swords be with online??

Of course, my dream Zelda game is a 2D game on WiiWare that plays more like LttP, rather than 4 Swords.

A link to the past and Four Swords were amazing :D... in fact i think im gonna go grab my gameboy micro and play Link to the Past again :D

btw didn't Links Crossbow Training come out this year? isn't that technically a zelda game? lol

As the biggest Zelda fan (that can function in normal society) in the world, I can honestly say I don't mind them taking a year off every decade.

it's pretty obvious what we must do...

pick a couple of zeldas to play and get our fix in. phantom hourglass was pretty cool, and i haven't done my second stint of twilight princess... so perhaps i'll play those.

though given that i usually have my laptop around, i wouldn't mind firing up the SNES emu and playing LttP yet again... (and yea, I own the cart)

Eh, I disagree with the hate of Phantom Hourglass. I actually enjoyed that enough to play through. I didn't play through Majora's Mask, Oracle of Seasons/Time, Minish Cap, Wind Waker, or Twilight Princess. PH actually managed to get me to look past the hate I had for cell Link and had a blast with it.

but just to not give anybody false hope: very very unlikely. next Wii Zelda is rumored to be 2D and played with classic controller only. kidding.

I'm not sure I'd want them to keep releasing a zelda game every year. Pretty soon it'd get to be like Madden. I'd rather they take their time and focus on keeping the quality up.

Well, Link, Zelda and Gannondorf were in Smash Bros, so technically there has been a game out this year with Zelda in it...

Hasn't hit me, I missed out on Oracle of Ages and played it on/off over the course of this year. Pretty good game too. Not as good as Awakening but we all know that.
