Read first issue of Dead Space comic online ... legally
Image Comics and Newsarama have made the first issue of the Dead Space comic book available to read online. The story in the six-part series takes place prior to the events of the video game on the USG Ishimura. Some finer details of the game might be spoiled by reading the comic, but those who've finished the game will get more backstory without having to read Ishimura crew logs.
The comic series was originally released earlier this year and is also available now in a collected hardcover edition. If you want to know more of our thoughts about Dead Space, be sure to check out our "Game of the Year" post about this "strategic dismemberment" thriller.

I have trouble reading it but is pretty neat.
I love the web comics promoting the game.
Brucie_K @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:44AM
Well, at least these web comics are better than that godawful animated movie.
Wiinterfang @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:52AM
I haven't seen the movie but the main character is being replace by a redheaded girl or is it the main character a girl the whole time?
Brucie_K @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:57AM
Do you mean Alissa Vincent? Yeah, she's one of the main characters.
LuckyEMS @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:10PM
cbr or gtfo

Wait a second, so there is the Dead Space comic, digital comic on XBL and the anime movie...do any of these overlap in any way?
Brucie_K @ Jan 2nd 2009 1:02PM
Yes, of course.
I only recommend reading the comics if you're a big fan and are interested in learning more about the story.
The animated movie can be skipped. It's nothing special.

Will do, thanks dude.

I still need to play through Deadspace. Got it for my birthday, Dec 13th, but with finals and Xmas presents it sorta got sidelined. Well, to be honest playing through has proven to be a little difficult... Not that its particularly hard or anything, just forcing myself to play it requires a little willpower. When I played through the 1st chapter, it was the single most frightening experience of my lifetime.

I really enjoyed the story lines leading up to the game (comics, clips, even the movie)
but the games story is just awful
get bossed around by 2 people only to have em screw you over
the gameplay was great but the story i was just hoping for more
and it also "borrowed" a lot from other games but thats not a compleatly bad thing

the comic rises above most that go along with games. the mirror's edge comic was pretty awful as was the one for gears. the art in this one is great.

You've got something on your chin there...

I started to play this game (After I finally got all the achievements in Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts,I'M FREE) and is fantastic so far.
Rhamsey @ Jan 2nd 2009 9:16PM
oh, its free to read? thats different, and kinda sweet. this game deserved more attention.
Obie @ Jan 2nd 2009 9:38PM
After checking it out, the comic here is identical to the one you can download for free off Xbox live. I say check it out there too since the animated the panels and added music and solid voice acting.
Very cool.

Yeah I've had this on my PS3 since they started releasing them. The animated comic trumps the actual comic thanks to the strong voice acting.
