As CMT foretold, Roy Orbison tracks will be available as Rock Band DLC. Sadly, "I Drove All Night" isn't one of the songs, but there's still plenty of tracks to croon to while wearing giant black-rimmed glasses.
All tracks are masters and videos can be found after the break. The Xbox 360 will have the songs available for download Tuesday, January 6. The PS3 will receive them a week later on January 15, due to the PSN's holiday break. There's currently no word about when the two consoles will sync up again, but we've contacted Sony and HMX to find out.
This is not what Harmonix does. If you are looking for a game that just picks the songs based on popularity, maybe you should go with Guitar Hero. Harmonix tends to pick songs that are more enjoyable to play, rather than just picking the most well known songs.
People on Something Awful discovered some upcoming Battle of the Bands events on the Rock Band website for Lenny Kravitz and Steve Miller Band over the next couple weeks, indicating an emphasis on solo artists this month. I wouldn't be shocked to see SRV round out this month's DLC offerings.
This is great. I love how they're really pushing out the boundaries of the music collection for the game. I just really hope this paves the way for some Elvis in RB3.
Still NO Queen in RB, though, for shame. They've sold 300-million albums worldwide, released eighteen number one albums, eighteen number one singles, and ten number one DVDs, but they're not in the game? FOR SHAME!
Wow, I must say I am very excited to see Roy Orbison coming out to Rock Band..... but I know what you're thinking, you're thinking "man, this old guy comes on here to tell us how influential Roy Orbison is....bla bla bla...".
Well, actually I'm only semi-old.... 31 to be exact....
Honeslty, Roy Orbison really was a huge influence on music (check out reverbnation.com/royorbison and look at some of the quotes)
I bought this DLC the week it came out and have been playing it nonstop. It's not that expensive, and you get to learn a few more songs of Roy's that are just as good as his top two.
All in all, I'm glad Harmonix made the move to Roy Orbison. He was a classy guy that helped introduce the world to rock and roll in the 50s (with Elvis, Buddy Holly, etc.)
I recommend this to everyone who wants to learn a little more about the real roots of Rock and Roll.
