Sauron spies with his little eye: 'LotR: Conquest' demo on Live
Word comes from Sauron's agent, the one they call Major Nelson of the Red Mound, that the multiplayer demo for Lord of the Rings: Conquest is available now on Xbox Live. The 1.25GB demo is available globally and allows you to play as either the armies of "good" or "evil" -- although, what side those terms represent is surely up for philosophical debate.
Developer Pandemic has had no qualms in saying that LotR: Conquest is Star Wars: Battlefront with a Middle-Earth setting. The game should arrive on January 13 for X360, PS3 and PC. Now, go kill some filthy Hobbitses!
Update: Worth noting, the LotR: Conquest demo is also available on PSN.

demo was on the PSN a week or two ago.
Ves @ Jan 2nd 2009 10:57AM
Only on the North American one, can't find it on the European.
HPGR_Thrawn @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:16PM
Is it single player or multiplayer?
jarhead906 @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:23PM
Both my good sir.
Kattleox @ Jan 2nd 2009 10:56AM
"...And my axe!
...And my sword!
...And my demo! Please, take it. It's terrible, really."
Remember those Hero Assault levels of Starwars Battlefront, where everyone was a jedi and it was really annoying? Yeah. Mix that with dynasty warriors, and you have a game, toots.
Geoffrey Sperl @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:01AM
Yeah - played the PSN demo last week for about ten minutes and then deleted it. It's well worth ignoring, folks.
ultimateidiot911 @ Jan 2nd 2009 1:01PM
I have to disagree, the game is quite fun especially if you enjoy the Battlefront series. It took me a while to get use to control but once you get the hang of the controls, it's really fun.
DonkeyBarf @ Jan 2nd 2009 2:24PM
Do Not Want!
Although the Battlefront series was fun when it was first released, little has changed in the following reiterations. I dislikey'd the demo very much.
The control scheme is Sauron-awful - Again another developer that chooses not to allow the player to reconfigure their own button layout. That may change with the actual release but I doubt it. Personally I'm now skipping most games that don't offer button customization because I do not have the time to learn every single layout for every game I own.
/End potential wall of text.
Geoffrey Sperl @ Jan 4th 2009 1:25PM
@ultimateidiot911: Actually, I have played both Battlefront games on the PlayStation and, no, I disagree - Conquest is not an heir apparent to those.
And look carefully at the backgrounds in the demo - those animations look like something out of Street Fighter, not a high-end, current-gen game.
under13warrior @ Jan 2nd 2009 4:14PM
It sucks I played it on PSN last week.
marauder800 @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:15AM
Good! I'll cancel my slow-ass download + install on PSN and try this on 360. Most likely I'll play for 10 minutes then disregard the game altogether like most people.
jarhead906 @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:29PM
Is your PSN download really that much slower than your XBLA one on the same network?
This is a weird phenomena that I've seen except my personal experience is that my friend's 360 Elite was at least two times slower on almost everything (matchmaking, downloads, etc;) compared to my PS3 on the same network...
Anyone know why this is? Also, does anyone here know anything about "DMZing a PS3" because I've been reading comments 'cross the web and it sounds like it helps your connection for online play.
Eric @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:18AM
Is it available to gold members only or to silver as well?
Dirty @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:55AM
That sentence makes me sad.
jarhead906 @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:08PM
I, too, felt something die within my gamers' heart.
Haggard @ Jan 2nd 2009 2:51PM
Did he say something stupid or something?
I don't get it.
jarhead906 @ Jan 2nd 2009 3:54PM
I can't speak for Dirty but the reason for my statement is that it's sad that not all gamers have the same [chance] at experiencing what everyone else is. A barrier exists.
In short, Microsoft is alienating gamers by charging for online play and a few minor connectivity perks for XBL.

Sadly, welcome to Capitalism. :-/
xgarryx225 @ Jan 2nd 2009 8:07PM
hey capitalism is great! choose to not pay or choose to pay.
free will how bout that.
DBuck_Eye @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:18AM
If you guys are right, then it's a damn shame. Return of the King was one of my favorite last-gen titles. It was one of the few movie games that kicked ass.
Zertoss @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:23AM
Yeah, co-op in RotK was a blast.
Charlie_Six @ Jan 2nd 2009 8:03PM
Yup, loved that game. Gandalf: "The enemy slays your people. We must save... everyone that we can!"
ScottG13 @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:28AM
Its pretty much the only thing on my radar in January. Sad sauce. To the back catalog we go!
ganrob @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:28AM
want... to ... like .. this... am desperateee
|MaguS| @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:53AM
The single player aspect of this game is horrible... but I did like the Multiplayer part... I played the PSN demo.
DarkNessBear @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:58AM
Ya the single player tutorial is TERRIBLE!! But the Multiplayer is actually fun at times. definitely needs at least 6-12 months of work but it could be really good (if it wasn't coming out in 2 weeks...)
Brodo @ Jan 2nd 2009 11:54AM
Havent played it yet. But you guys are making it sound worse than Vampire Rain.
PS- If you wanna play a really funny, horrible demo get Vampire Rain
Blue @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:20PM
Demo is fantastic, already thousands playing. If you liked star wars battlefront and are a rings fan, your going to love this.
jarhead906 @ Jan 2nd 2009 12:32PM
One man's trash is another man's treasure I suppose.
Conor @ Jan 2nd 2009 1:35PM
I really hope this game kicks ass.
I loved the battlefront series and I love LOTR.
rickjamess @ Jan 2nd 2009 1:38PM
I enjoyed the demo, however playing the tutorial got rather annoying as the guy who is barking commands at you is very annoying.
The Dark Wayne @ Jan 2nd 2009 1:58PM
God I just wish they'd make another Star Wars Battlefront in a Star Wars setting
Zanthox @ Jan 2nd 2009 2:08PM
It is pretty fun, I am kinda worried that you will be forced to play whichever class it dictates, but we shall see.
But it was definitely on PSN a while ago, I found it on Christmas day and played it before leaving to visit family. XD
Archon @ Jan 2nd 2009 2:09PM
My favourite line in the demo?
"His attacks are AWESOME... to behold!" spoken in a forced i-really-feel-it,-i-swear-i-think-the-things-they-make-me-say voice.
Zoglas @ Jan 2nd 2009 3:04PM
Holy sh. Every single thing about the game was horrible and lame. So thats what we can expect from pandemic from now on huh? Didnt they learn anything from that other horrible game- Mercs2?
Lekko @ Jan 2nd 2009 4:18PM
this had better be one of those "old builds they use for a demo" situations, because it was kinda twitchy and not polished.
Even the little ending demo video you see once you beat the single player part was choppy... and demo videos should never stutter. Good concept though, just needs more oven lovin'
Minime283 @ Jan 2nd 2009 5:29PM
Played it at PAX, wasn't impressed.
boost @ Jan 2nd 2009 6:44PM
Funny, I remember there being slightly more than 16 players at the Battle of Minis Tirith.
t_m @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:39AM
I never understood how Battlefront ended up as the biggest selling Star Wars game of all time. :-(
