Sauron spies with his little eye: 'LotR: Conquest' demo on Live

Word comes from Sauron's agent, the one they call Major Nelson of the Red Mound, that the multiplayer demo for Lord of the Rings: Conquest is available now on Xbox Live. The 1.25GB demo is available globally and allows you to play as either the armies of "good" or "evil" -- although, what side those terms represent is surely up for philosophical debate.

Developer Pandemic has had no qualms in saying that LotR: Conquest is Star Wars: Battlefront with a Middle-Earth setting. The game should arrive on January 13 for X360, PS3 and PC. Now, go kill some filthy Hobbitses!

Update: Worth noting, the LotR: Conquest demo is also available on PSN.

demo was on the PSN a week or two ago.

Only on the North American one, can't find it on the European.

Is it single player or multiplayer?

Remember those Hero Assault levels of Starwars Battlefront, where everyone was a jedi and it was really annoying? Yeah. Mix that with dynasty warriors, and you have a game, toots.

Yeah - played the PSN demo last week for about ten minutes and then deleted it. It's well worth ignoring, folks.

I have to disagree, the game is quite fun especially if you enjoy the Battlefront series. It took me a while to get use to control but once you get the hang of the controls, it's really fun.

Do Not Want!

Although the Battlefront series was fun when it was first released, little has changed in the following reiterations. I dislikey'd the demo very much.

The control scheme is Sauron-awful - Again another developer that chooses not to allow the player to reconfigure their own button layout. That may change with the actual release but I doubt it. Personally I'm now skipping most games that don't offer button customization because I do not have the time to learn every single layout for every game I own.

@ultimateidiot911: Actually, I have played both Battlefront games on the PlayStation and, no, I disagree - Conquest is not an heir apparent to those.

And look carefully at the backgrounds in the demo - those animations look like something out of Street Fighter, not a high-end, current-gen game.

It sucks I played it on PSN last week.

Good! I'll cancel my slow-ass download + install on PSN and try this on 360. Most likely I'll play for 10 minutes then disregard the game altogether like most people.

Is your PSN download really that much slower than your XBLA one on the same network?

This is a weird phenomena that I've seen except my personal experience is that my friend's 360 Elite was at least two times slower on almost everything (matchmaking, downloads, etc;) compared to my PS3 on the same network...

Anyone know why this is? Also, does anyone here know anything about "DMZing a PS3" because I've been reading comments 'cross the web and it sounds like it helps your connection for online play.

Is it available to gold members only or to silver as well?

I can't speak for Dirty but the reason for my statement is that it's sad that not all gamers have the same [chance] at experiencing what everyone else is. A barrier exists.

In short, Microsoft is alienating gamers by charging for online play and a few minor connectivity perks for XBL.

If you guys are right, then it's a damn shame. Return of the King was one of my favorite last-gen titles. It was one of the few movie games that kicked ass.

Yeah, co-op in RotK was a blast.

Yup, loved that game. Gandalf: "The enemy slays your people. We must save... everyone that we can!"

Its pretty much the only thing on my radar in January. Sad sauce. To the back catalog we go!

The single player aspect of this game is horrible... but I did like the Multiplayer part... I played the PSN demo.

Ya the single player tutorial is TERRIBLE!! But the Multiplayer is actually fun at times. definitely needs at least 6-12 months of work but it could be really good (if it wasn't coming out in 2 weeks...)

Havent played it yet. But you guys are making it sound worse than Vampire Rain.
PS- If you wanna play a really funny, horrible demo get Vampire Rain

Demo is fantastic, already thousands playing. If you liked star wars battlefront and are a rings fan, your going to love this.

I really hope this game kicks ass.

I loved the battlefront series and I love LOTR.

I enjoyed the demo, however playing the tutorial got rather annoying as the guy who is barking commands at you is very annoying.

God I just wish they'd make another Star Wars Battlefront in a Star Wars setting

It is pretty fun, I am kinda worried that you will be forced to play whichever class it dictates, but we shall see.
But it was definitely on PSN a while ago, I found it on Christmas day and played it before leaving to visit family. XD

My favourite line in the demo?
"His attacks are AWESOME... to behold!" spoken in a forced i-really-feel-it,-i-swear-i-think-the-things-they-make-me-say voice.

Holy sh. Every single thing about the game was horrible and lame. So thats what we can expect from pandemic from now on huh? Didnt they learn anything from that other horrible game- Mercs2?

this had better be one of those "old builds they use for a demo" situations, because it was kinda twitchy and not polished.

Even the little ending demo video you see once you beat the single player part was choppy... and demo videos should never stutter. Good concept though, just needs more oven lovin'

Played it at PAX, wasn't impressed.

Funny, I remember there being slightly more than 16 players at the Battle of Minis Tirith.

I never understood how Battlefront ended up as the biggest selling Star Wars game of all time. :-(
