Welcome to 2009, ladies and gentlemen. The world has changed very much in the last 24 hours -- we hear
Zunes work again, for example.
- Alexander Sliwinski: Despite GameFly allegedly having sent Prince of Persia on Monday, it's still not here. Hopefully, I'll get it tomorrow. The main weekend plan was to explore the Wasteland in Fallout 3 more. My second foray into the game is going much smoother and hours just melt away playing it.
- Christopher Grant: Need to wrap up some of 2008, before I start my "To Be Played In 2009" pile. Got a little left of Mirror's Edge, about half of Far Cry 2, and the majority of Prince of Persia. Still, I'd rather be playing Fable 2 ... some more ... but there's almost nothing left for me to do in Albion. Where's that DLC, Lionhead?
- Griffin McElroy: I'm going to either try to finish Metal Gear Solid 4, or instead download the Metal Gear Solid DLC for LittleBigPlanet, which I imagine will create a remarkably similar experience. When away from my beloved home consoles, I imagine I'll spend a great deal of time Triggering my Chronos.
- Kevin Kelly: I'm still living in the non-electronic realm and itching for my consoles bigtime. I did tour Game Over Games in Austin thanks to a reader tip (thanks Adrian! Photos and report forthcoming) and it was awesome. Been playing a lot of Electronic Catch Phrase and tomorrow is board game night with some peeps - Power Grid and Agricola. Then Sunday... back to gaming bliss on my systems. Whew.
- James Ransom-Wiley: Post-Christmas shopping spree! I got Microsoft Points, PSN bucks and *gulp* Wii Points to redeem ... suggestions? (I'm thinking save my Wii Points for Cave Story.)
- Jason Dobson: Writing our "Best of the Rest" posts reminded me that I still have a few races to complete in GRiD, so I'll be getting back behind the wheel and trying to take the checkered flag.
- Justin McElroy: I'm going to be playing some more Killzone 2 and finally trying to finish the last gasps for Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia.
- Ludwig Kietzmann: is in the future and not willing to look back.
- Randy Nelson: I'm already going through my fellow Joystiqers' "Best of the Best" lists for ideas on what to play next. I'll definitely be playing more Far Cry 2 -- my current addcition -- but really want to catch up on some of the less high-profile gems I inadvertently passed by: BoomBlox, GRiD, and, on Alexander's recommendation, Sins of a Solar Empire.
- Ross Miller: Just got a shiny new 24-inch monitor for my PC, so it's time to play catch-up. Too bad I just missed the Steam sale, it seems. Also, I've got 1600 MS points and am not sure what to get. Help!

I finally got 1000/1000 in Banjo Kazooie and I'll brag about it every chance I can now that with the achievements out of the way the game is once again fun to play.I might play it online once in a while and get all the notes.
I started Dead space and so far so good.

I've finished with Link's Crossbow Training (and i want more, damnit), so now my companion piece for Sonic Chronicles is World of Goo. Different than what i expected. Very zen. The timer is there, but they don't really rate your performance, so you just take your time figuring out puzzles.
The first puzzle with the green goo, for instance, i took 17 minutes to finish, because i kept making mistakes that led to my tower collapsing, which was quite amusing to watch. Yet, i did not feel compelled to reset the whole puzzle, i just went at my own pace.

Markez (Anti-Panda Death Murder Squadron) @ Jan 3rd 2009 2:42AM
I saw Powergrid and thought it said Power Glove at first :P wondered how on earth anyone was going to play that...
As far as Wii points go, plenty of stuff to play! Handnful of buddies and myself had a real blast with that stupid bag toss game. It probably sucks unless you have a handful of folks to play with. I've been rather surprised and pleased with WiiWare.
James - Lost Winds, FF My Life as a King, Dr. Mario if you've got local pals, World of Goo. Depends on what you're after. Some of the lamer stuff can really, really be fun if you have local friends to play with; ie the quiz/brain/trivia games.
Otherwise, I'll be diving into Fallout 3 when I get back to San Diego over the next few days.
Foetoid @ Jan 3rd 2009 3:28AM
Bought up big in the Steam sale so i'm playing through the full-version of Peggle and finishing up the challenges. Lots of multiplayer Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution. Tales of Symphonia will get some more love in my 4th playthrough, GH:WT will fill the gaps and i may install COD:WAW, Fallout 3 or Dead Space finally. The games are sitting there, but i can't bring myself to play them. Probably cause when i pick one, i'll play it till it's finished. Still getting through the WiiWare World of Goo too.
E.J. @ Jan 3rd 2009 4:07AM
Hey spammer, GTFO.
Haggard @ Jan 3rd 2009 4:31AM
Working my way through Uncharted. And you know what? It's really, really, really good.
Also some Prince of Persia and GHWT expert guitar career in between.
Bowser Rogozhin @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:14AM
Space Invaders Extreme and Theme Hospital, and maybe some Afterburner at the arcade later on tonight. That's if I find the time.
spmbx @ Jan 3rd 2009 8:16AM
Plain old afterburner or afterburner climax? In case of the latter: lucky bastard for having machines like that closeby!
Bowser Rogozhin @ Jan 3rd 2009 8:30AM
Afterburner Climax. The same place has the Silent Hill arcade game, but that's a little sucky.
Nigeria @ Jan 3rd 2009 2:19PM
Afterburner Climax is really cool, but at £2 a pop it's a bit dear. But the jutting motion of the cabinet is like no other.
Balius @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:31AM
I've been playing Boom Blox lately, so there's that.
Donald @ Jan 3rd 2009 8:45AM
Working through a season on Tecmo Bowl Kickoff, with the usual Platinum goodness thrown in for good measure.
James: Your Wii points are begging for World of Goo or Mega Man 9.
Haggard @ Jan 3rd 2009 9:19AM
Erm.. no thanks
Jim Halpert DM @ Jan 3rd 2009 9:19AM
Playing Rock Band, Rock Band 2, and Guitar Hero World Tour. Not stop rocking has put my body in pain. Maybe I'll finish GTA IV or play COD4. Or Maybe I'll break down and get Call of Duty World at war since it's only 39$ at Target till tomorrow.
Lionbacker @ Jan 3rd 2009 10:18AM
I'm playing Resistance 2 and Red alert 3, both of which I got for christmas.
jorojoserojas @ Jan 3rd 2009 10:42AM
I"m on vacation from work this week!
I'll be playing EVERYTHING (though probably not finishing anything). Fable 2, Fallout 3, LittleBIGPlanet, Prince of Persia, Far Cry 2, Persona 4, and many, many other backlogged games. This will be a productive* week!
*As productive as gaming can be, at least.
MowDownJoe @ Jan 3rd 2009 11:08AM
Didn't you get flamed to hell for spamming IN THIS VERY POST?!
Seriously, someone ban the spambot, please. It's agitating me enough to not want to play the PC version of Mass Effect that I got off of Steam, which is a great game when it's not crashing.
Wiinterfang @ Jan 3rd 2009 11:18AM
The funny thing is that he has terrible grammar apparently to blend in with us gamers....

holyice7 @ Jan 3rd 2009 11:21AM
At the moment, I'm doing my very best to start drilling through that mine of backlogged games I've accumulated.
It appears I'm going with the first-on, last-off method of stacked importance, since I'm finishing up Disgaea 3, then working my way to my SNES copy of Mega Man X.
Also; ball of Triforces.

It makes my head hurt when people say "aught-(any year this decade). Can't we just say "Oh-nine?"
Probably just me.

I should finally get my 360 fixed by 10th, so I'll be playing FC2 and hopefully I'll jack some christmas gifts off my mates...

Just finished Fable II last night. I found it enjoyable but not amazing. Combat mechanics were the biggest problem with this game. I think that says a lot to give you an idea of what this game is about, arguably the most important part of a game (its gameplay) is whats worst about this game.
This is a very ungame. Its more like a trip through peters mind where conveying one liners and trying to drag morality into a game put actual fun in the backseat. If they had spent more time polishing the gameplay mechanics this could have been my favorite game of the year. As its stands I don't think its in my top 5.
Little Big PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Jan 4th 2009 4:33AM
I didn't like how every choice was such an obvious good or evil with very little in the middle. It was like 3 genres duct taped together and none were really fully fleshed out. What I liked best about the game was that the world really felt alive though it was shallow.
It was like a half hearted zelda + half hearted MMO + half hearted choose your own adventure = Fable. Perhaps half hearted isn't the right phrase but the correct phrase alludes me. I put it in my top 10's honorable mentions for 2008 just on the outside looking in. The sad thing for me was I only put about 11 or 12 hours into it, beat it and then never played it again. Did all that in spare time at my brothers house over the course of a month.
Bowser Rogozhin @ Jan 4th 2009 6:16AM
Your top five is worthless, Shag.
Shadsy @ Jan 3rd 2009 2:13PM
Trying to work on some really old ones, particularly Theme Park Mystery. Weird game...
the Seraph @ Jan 3rd 2009 10:28PM
Just finished a rousing playthrough of Halo:CE after reading The Fall of Reach again.
yyr @ Jan 4th 2009 12:52PM
Disgaea on PSP. Can't stop playing it... Also, Initial D Extreme Stage on PS3.
Anyone with Microsoft Points would do well to check out Community Games. There are over 100 now and there really are some good ones on there. If you haven't tried Carneyvale: Showtime yet, do so now. If you had a negative opinion of Community Games before, it will change your mind. Many of the other recent ones are good, too.
The contests at www.snake360.com are running for a few more weeks so there's still plenty of time to enter. $450 in prizes...
tidefan94 @ Jan 4th 2009 1:12PM
It's time to attempt to play catch up to '08 titles before the '09 titles hit (RE5). So it's time for Fallout 3, Gears of War 2 (Horde mode), Peggle (bought it while on sale on steam, freaking addicting), and whichever game I decide to buy next (split between Fable 2 and Prince of Persia)
Datalocust @ Jan 4th 2009 4:20PM
I haven't had the pleasure of play Fable II yet and if I only had the money to purchase it, I'd probably be playing it right now. To win a copy would be a dream come true considering I believe it to be the best game release since Fallout 3. I have been waiting for a sequel since the original Fable. Hell I'll not only write a full review if I win, but my fiance who's a huge gamer herself would most likely do the same thing. Please please please let this be the winning post!!!
