Rumor: Traveller's Tales working on Lego Rock Band
We usually save our statements of incredulity for the end of our rumor posts, but we think this story warrants one up front -- we'd have an easier time believing that Lego Halo is in development, and we know that one's not true. Videogaming247 reports that one of their sources is "100 percent" certain that Traveller's Tales is working on a Lego-fied version of Rock Band for Electronic Arts.
Now, we know that Traveller's Tales is currently working on further Lego titles, but when last we heard, these unannounced games are being based off of Warner Bros. IPs -- it's a lot more likely that a Harry Potter game or follow-up to Lego Indiana Jones is in the works. As it stands now, we're fairly certain that VG247's source is either extremely confused, or they're jumping the April Fools' gun by a few months.

will i need new lego instruments that i have to build? and will they be compatible with other music games?
Haggard @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:05PM
That's actually a really cool idea. Something like Mindstorms, where you build your own peripheral to work best with the game. If it was combined with something like LittleBigPlanet but with it slightly easier to make the game anything you want it to be (I know that's not lego Rock Band but bear with me).
I can see it being a very niche market though.
kojo87 @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:53PM
i like it. sounds expensive tho. and i think the drums would break...
and props to Joystiq for using that picture from the video Fell in Love With a Girl by The White Stripes!

Um....why?
BIGGEN (LIVE-PSN: BIGGEN1103) @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:52PM
why indeed!

A question I have been asking since the inception of lego video games.

A question I have been asking since the inception of Rock Band.
Haggard @ Jan 3rd 2009 8:23PM
The answer to lego video games is that they provide an interesting take on existing franchises, with their own brand of gameplay to boot.
The answer to Rock Band is that it's made of awesome.
guidedbyvoip @ Jan 4th 2009 4:33AM
A question I have been asking since your conception.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:08PM
It'd be interesting if they were doing this for EA, since EA doesn't own or publish Rock Band, they just distribute it.
Jestersage @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:12PM
If they do, RB2 will soon be catching up to GHWT. Next up: Rock Band Underground, followed by Rock Band 2011. And then MTV's RockBand 2012 (release six month after the first one)
Jakka ( The Order of Haters of Balance) @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:16PM
Technically, if you don't count DS games, they are pretty close in franchise whoring...
T @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:37PM
RB isn't even close.
Last year alone: GH:A, GHWT, GH:OT, GH:OTD.
Rock Band? RB2, AC/DC. The Track Packs don't count since they are simply packs of 20 songs readily available as DLC.
ice~ @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:13PM
LEGO LoTR, nuff said
Tez @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:00PM

"Shall I describe it to you? Or would you like me to find you some blocks?"
mr mobius @ Jan 3rd 2009 9:19PM
Anything Lord of the Rings!
Lego LOTR would be amazing.
How about Lego Boom Blox...
ice~ @ Jan 3rd 2009 9:58PM
Well Lord of the Rings conquest is going to be so much fun. yes it has flaws, and the trolls on the forums are whining and complaining, but who cares about the flaws when you're having so much fun with your friends kicking a hobbits ass with a balrog in the shire? :D
Haggard @ Jan 4th 2009 6:54PM

WTF?!
jmarto @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:33PM
Oh geez, I knew it would come to this eventually, but I never would have guessed so soon...
Bloodwrath @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:40PM
i'm just wating for a lego game where you play as a little lego boy who unlocks the secret of building legos and making them come to life and is hailed as a god until he commits suicide due to the realization that he is a child's play thing
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:00PM
No, after the Lego Emperor of the known Universe notice your existence he decides that he will not longer be a tool of your creation and he will work to a find a way to bring you down causing machines all round you to attack you.
Here is where you need to erase System 32 to stop him once and for all before he starts the Machine rebellion in our world.
Are you a Bad enough dude to save our world from the machine rebellion and the wrath or the Lego Emperor?
kavendano14 @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:46PM
Give me The White Stripes first, then worry about legos.
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:52PM
As much as I like “The White Stripes” most of their songs are very meh especially the new ones but is nothing compared to the decadency of Linkin Park or the beat up that took Black Eyed Peas.
Elephunk was okay but man Monkey Business? Well what can I tell you is in the title already.
Travis @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:50PM
i think a proper lego BUILDING game is needed more than all these hackjob lego games... i wanna build my own cars and monsters
Dr Jeckyl and Mr ESC. @ Jan 3rd 2009 5:54PM
Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts -----> That way.
Agreed 100% I still enjoy Legos too bad I'm old and it looks funny when a grown up guy buys them.
"Is that Spongebob Lego set for your son sir?"
"Eh yeah why not".

They've already made it.. 10 years ago.
I never played it (indeed, only found out about its existence from playing Lego Loco), but I'd guess that aside from the mouse + keyboard controls it pales in comparison to LBP's creator.
aj @ Jan 3rd 2009 10:46PM
It's called "Lego Builder", and you can download it for free from the Lego site.
Best of all - you can special order the models you design so you can make it in real life. Of course, just playing with virtual Lego is awesome.
Snowblind @ Jan 4th 2009 6:40AM
The Lego Universe MMO is also supposedly going to allow you to freely create things. Allow why they've chosen to give a kids game a monthly subscription is beyond me.. The game won't last 6 months.
Charging for packs of bricks would make FAR more sense and would likely make them even more money.
ryan @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:03PM
Lego Ninja Gaiden and Lego GTA...It can happen right?
Jestersage @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:11PM
Lego GTA - blood = Lego Island.
Hurmun @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:06PM
so why can't we just have lego games based on.. legos? lego indiana jones, lego batman, star wars, they're all the same damn game anyway
Ryan @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:11PM
I agree. Make like a LEGO MMO game or something. Everyone gets a space to build what they want and you can make huge a LEGO town with other LEGO people online. Graphics wouldn't be too demanding. Just a bunch of blue, yellow and red bricks.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Jan 3rd 2009 8:01PM
They ARE making a Lego MMO. Game development isn't as simple as typing out a spreadsheet and having the computer MAKE your game for you. Something as ambitious as a Lego MMO is going to take more time than the TT Lego copy pasta projects.
Little Big PSN ID: johnnynumber5 @ Jan 4th 2009 4:45AM
He's right that a Lego MMO for PC's is scheduled to be released in 2009.

Lego Leisure Suit Larry.
Mr Khan @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:50PM
Perhaps a Lego-fied version of a Rock Band, but not the Rock Band.
Lego Doors, perhaps. An adventure through the twisted trips of Jim Morrison
invaderalex @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:53PM
White Stripes for teh win!
Music video is awesome.
Michel Gondry is awesome, got me into daft punk.!
Lego Vector Man
Lego Eternal Darkness
Lego Half Life (imagine the head crabs)
Moptimus Slime @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:57PM
The only way I can see Lego Rock Band happening is as a DLC costume pack.
E.J. @ Jan 3rd 2009 6:58PM
April Fools!
...
right?
Moptimus Slime @ Jan 3rd 2009 7:26PM
Well, if that image is any indication of things to come, then I for one can't wait to experience Rock Band on my Atari 2600
Andrew @ Jan 3rd 2009 8:13PM
I actually have a friend on the inside, and they are working on lego rock band. from casual conversations i've had with this friend, its basically going to be rock band for kinds, and two tracks i rememeber him telling me were Avril Lavinge - Boyfriend, and Europe - Final Countdown.
He also said theres going to be a "very easy" mode.
Andrew @ Jan 3rd 2009 8:15PM
Edit - "from casual conversations i've had with this friend, its basically going to be rock band for KIDS"
Hafk @ Jan 3rd 2009 8:32PM
Why the hell would The Final Countdown be in a kiddie Rock Band and not my Rock Band?
The Final Countdown is too epic to be stuck in a kids game!
Andrew @ Jan 4th 2009 5:45AM
I have no idea. Thats Just what he told me.
Apparantley Guiness World Records 2, and Lego Indiana Jones 2 are also in the pipeline.
Bakkster @ Jan 4th 2009 12:19PM
While I doubt you have an actual 'source', this is my guess as well. Basically an E or E10+ rated version of Rock Band, plus Lego branding to make it obvious that it's for kids.
